Time reports on statements made by President Obama during an interview:

When asked about comments by the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who has said the U.S. overestimated the ability and will of the Iraqi military to fight the extremist group, Obama said, “That’s true,” Mr. Obama said. “That’s absolutely true.”

Obama had already admitted that the rise of ISIS took the U.S. by surprise. “I think that there is no doubt that their advance, their movement over the last several months has been more rapid than the intelligence estimates and I think the expectations of policymakers both in and outside of Iraq,”

Obama said, “That’s true,” Mr. Obama said. “That’s absolutely true.”

Well, if James Clapper said it, it MUST be true. Especially if Pres. Obama backs him up on it!

Seriously, there was no intelligence that this was a serious threat? Not one of those people in the US whose calls you're tapping said anything?

    > Seriously, there was no intelligence that this was a serious threat?

It's because they are only a PR threat. The military understands blowing shit up, they are piss-poor at understanding people. No amount of wire-tapping and keyword trawling would have clued them into the fact that a couple of beheading videos would end-up being played 24x7 for weeks by those terror-enabling tv networks like CNN/FOX/MSNBC and that it would end up scaring the piss out of the american public. Pants shitters like "before we all get killed back here at home" [soylentnews.org] Lindsey Graham didn't help either.

They are a physical threat to anyone who visits that part of the world. When you start killing Americans, the American government won't be happy. They're no threat to me, but I won't be going there.

I see you're not a veteran. They are VERY good at understanding people, particularly at brainwashing young adults.

And they DON'T just "blow shit up", they also airlift food to starving people, build shit, all kinds of stuff.

Completely different area, sure they specialize in manipulating their own men in order to capitalize on camaraderie for their own purposes. But that's a very limited area of psychology and most of it is by-the-book now, not part of some greater focus on sociology.

        > And they DON'T just "blow shit up", they also airlift food to starving people, build shit, all kinds of stuff.

Just because they do it doesn't mean they are necessarily good at it. They just happen to be the only available option

Are you two fucking stupid? The ISIS occupied an area inhabited by eight fucking million people, cleansing all minorities, killing thousands, kidnapping and raping.

They're not a threat to "anywone who visits that part of the world", they're a threat for the whole fucking humanity. The one you two have seemingly lost.

Honestly I am not sure what race has to do with anything.

If they were a terrorist organization killing people in Europe I am not sure it would make a difference. Do you have any evidence showing that America doesn't care because they are a different race?

Well if what I understand is true then ISIS is made up of the "freedom fighters" we supported during what our propaganda...err press called the "Arab Spring" so I have no doubt we didn't see it coming. After all what are the odds that your designated puppets will turn on you in THAT region...hmm?
