  I suspect covid media coverage sucked the oxygen out of the room for climate change news. It reminds me of what happened to UFOs and similar supernatural stuff after Y2K. You would think the last two are completely unrelated, but when I and a friend stopped by a UFO convention in San Jose, CA in 2000, the retailers present there were universally hurting for sales. I heard a lot of blame directed towards Y2K. I think a large part of that was that their usual audience had a growing dotcom bust to worry about. My take is that there's only so much head space for these memes and immediate real world concerns take priority over more abstract ones.
  
  We'll see if that decline in media profile for climate change issues remains after covid declines in seriousness.

    Looks like COVID was helpful for UFOs. Someone inserted language in the relief bill that says the Pentagon has 6 months to release its info on UFOs [military.com]. :)
