When all the votes are counted this year, Americans should have far more confidence their votes were tallied correctly than in 2016.

After that contest was upended by Russian interference, states vastly increased the number of votes that are cast with paper records that can be audited later. More than 90 percent of votes will have a paper record this year compared with about 80 percent in 2016.

States have also significantly improved how often and how scrupulously they perform post-election audits.

The changes have been especially significant in some of the states ... contested by Trump.

Georgia and Pennsylvania have both shifted from having paper records for few or none of their voters in 2016 to having paper records for all votes cast in their states — a protection security experts say is a bare minimum to ensure votes weren’t altered by hackers or miscounted because of a technology failure.

The Cybersecurity 202: More states now have paper trails to verify votes were correctly counted

The irony never stops with conservatives. 2016 they ignored all concerns about election security, stopped any legislation that would improve election security, and refused to acknowledge the very real voter disenfrachisment from Georgia's GOP purging voter rolls and a variety of other concerns around the country.

So far the GOP is the group destroying democracy the most, and as usual gaslighting everyone else to keep attention off themselves. Now they are driving their crazier followers to volent insurrection, and they still try and blame BLM and Antifa.

Paper trails mean jack and shit, unless you consider the ability to create or destroy a piece of paper with data on it somehow beyond the capabilities of those wishing to commit election fraud. If you figure that that's how to do security, you are officially, explicitly disinvited from joining the admin staff.

Oh? I seem to remember me saying for quite some time now that paper trails were all but meaningless and pointing out numerous means of committing election fraud with little or no danger of detection. And even had I moved the goalposts there, it still wouldn't be as absurd as comparing two elections and declaring one "the most secure ever!". And even if you were actually correct about it being "the most secure election ever!", that would be less meaningful than saying "the most secure Microsoft product ever!".

Even though our last election was completely backed by paper, I feel a whole lot less confident about it as the primary counting was moved to back office facilities away from local precincts. Signature verification, stated by the courts to the Trump campaign to protect against ballot box stuffing, was not performed.

The elections process was changed by the republican legislature and the democrat governor last November, before the p(l)andemic was much in the news. If the entire last year was a scheme to get politics back to usual, the republicans will have hurt themselves the most. The democrats just hold all the smarts and talent in PR and demagoguery at the moment, while half of America supports a disrupter of politics as usual like Trump.

It's real. You can see the whole [youtu.be] video here. The link I provided skips to the time of the "gaffe". I don't really know what exactly he meant to say, because in context it really looks much worse, in my opinion:

But one of the things that I think is most important is those who haven’t voted yet, first of all, go to IWillVote.com to make a plan exactly how you’re gonna vote, where you’re gonna vote, when you’re gonna vote, because it can get complicated. Because the republicans doing everything they can to make it harder for people to vote particularly people of color to vote. So go to IWillVote.com.

Secondly, we’re in a situation where we have put together - and you guys did it for our, the president Obama’s administration, before this - we have put together, I think, the most extensive and and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics. What the president is trying to do is discourage people from voting by implying their vote won’t be counted, it can’t be counted, we’re gonna challenge it, and all these things. If enough people vote, it’s gonna overwhelm the system.

He then later goes on to state:

Go to particularly if you have, you know, grandparents or older folks in your neighborhood who you know. And they have a, they have an absentee ballot. Show them it matters how they fill it out. It’s complicated, some of it. They haven’t made it easier. For people. In many states. And by the way, why we challenged it may not hold up in Pennsylvania, if the Supreme Court were to change it, but now they’ve allowed the county, if it’s postmarked, it can be counted for all the way for next several days, which it should be.

                -----

Go to IWillVote.com . There are exactly two buttons: "Check if I'm registered to vote" and "Register to Vote". Generally the information you need for either is easy to obtain even for people who are not who they claim they are: name/date of birth/address. This is why signature matching, at the minimum, was absolutely critical to ensure election integrity. And in places like Georgia, they accepted these [youtu.be] signatures as matching. That's footage from a Senatorial hearing on irregularities in Georgia. And, by the way, that is evidence of fraud. The man who's "signature" that showed is a lawyer and sued the state, because that ballot clearly should not have been accepted. But it was. Incidentally, he's now also been banned from social media, because reasons.

Anybody who believes this was the "most secure election ever", would have just loved правда. And that's the truth.

On Eve of House Vote, McConnell Is Said to Be Pleased About Effort to Impeach Trump [nytimes.com]

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, has told associates that he believes President Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party, according to people familiar with his thinking. The House is voting on Wednesday to formally charge Mr. Trump with inciting violence against the country.

At the same time, Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the minority leader and one of Mr. Trump’s most steadfast allies in Congress, has asked other Republicans whether he should call on Mr. Trump to resign in the aftermath of the riot at the Capitol last week, according to three Republican officials briefed on the conversations.

It would be sweet to wake up on a morning where Trump has been impeached and confirmed by a trial in the senate. Or alternately, that the 25th has come to be.

I hate when anyone occulates a federal building - even the assholes in Portland and Seattle and Kenosha.

While you're remembering CHAZ, could you tally up the total of injured and the dead? I think there was more than just the one murder. Also, that video of all those clock-suckers in CHAZ abusing, denigrating, and attempting to murder a reporter whom they didn't like. We do, all of us, understand that "anarchy" is just a pretty word for describing "lawless motherfuckers", don't we?

Those are nice sounding, innocent sounding, excuses. But, it didn't just happen in Pennsylvania. It happened in Georgia, too. Then, the same thing happened again in the runoff elections, which the Dems won handily. It's a recurring once-in-a-lifetime occurrence that you might expect to see happen in one state or another, in about 40 years of voting. Same thing happened in other battleground states.

But, we're supposed to trust the fekkin election machines. They don't make mistakes. The people operating the machines don't make mistakes. What's more, the people operating the machines have no partisan ties. And, additionally, none of those machines are connected to the internet - except those ones that were publicly hacked into during testimony regarding the vulnerability of those machines.

But, don't mine me. I'm the trusting soul, who places complete faith in the Democrat political machine.

As the "respectable" media tells you to do.

But I think the machine issue is a red herring. Operating mistakes should show up in a recount. Pulling out suitcases from under the tables when the observers have been ejected, pasting up the windows to prevent even remote glimpses (and photographs) is not something that happens when an election is supposed to be fair and the most secure EVAH.

Unless you have some solid evidence of actual election fraud large enough to swing the election all you have is conjecture and feelings, neither of which will stand up in a court of law.

No, you're not supposed to trust the election machines. That's why we wanted paper ballots that can be counted. I notice that you don't question the results from any of the states that don't have a paper trail to follow. Why do you trust those?

I'm going to take a guess that it's because the "correct" candidate won those.

I question all of the election. All of it. I've never approved of any system without a paper trail. But the paper trail isn't even reliable. Whatever came of that 1/2 truckload of ballots shipped to Philly, that was delayed at the loading dock for all of a (8 hour) working day? Apparently filled-out ballots waiting to be counted, if necessary, but since they weren't needed, they were sent somewhere to be destroyed.

I'm not sure we can trust the results of any election in any state this time around, and certainly not in the designated "battle states".
