SoylentNews is people

Journal by aristarchus

Not, again, a philosophical journal entry, though, I have been thinking about the possibility of one on the notion of causation. Instead, I am here to make a plea for our lesser Soylentils. We have several members of our lusty band of freebooters who are much put under by recent American politics. One might say that the ground has moved under them, that the gyre has turned their world skew ways. I am here to suggest that we all be gentle with them, for a while. Yes, it is tempting to kick them when they are down, to rub the mendacity of their god-emperor in their faces, and mock them for their stupidity and gullibility, and all such is well deserved. But, as hard as it may be, try to put yourself in their position. Yes, I know, nearly impossible, since almost no one could be that stupid, but I am asking you to try.

First off, our dear TMB has been posting journal entries non-stop, attempting to regain his remembered fantastical past of winning what he considered "debates" on-line. We should not just yet disturb this illusion, as it is a coping device, and may well allow the Mighty Buzzard to return to sanity. Indulge him, and me, for the time being. Yes, what he says is not true, and he has no verifiable evidence for any of it, but, for now, let him be. The Truth will out.

Runaway has not so much gone off the deep end, as remained in it, which is strange since that is usually called the shallow end of the gene pool. Guns, all about guns. And abortion. And, leather jackets, rolling coal, not recycling, anything to "stick it to the libs". The best thing we can do right now, for our dear Runaway1956, is to pretend to be outraged by what he says. The worst thing that could happen to him is to be mocked, ridiculed, and ignored. So help out a fellow Soylentil! Take umbrage at Runaway's journals! Call him names and hate him muchly! That will make him feel better, while the reality of having lost the soul of America sinks in. Be gentle with him.

VLM, khallow, and hemocyanin, not much we can do for them. Fluids, vitamins, downmods, and wait for the end. And Ethanol_Fueled has already been taken out by a Jewish Space Laser, or so I hear from the super intelligent and in-the-know Marjorie Taylor Greene. So long, Eth, was not that great to know you, but you will be missed.

And for all the "Conservative" ACs: look, dudes (and dudettes, though I feel those are few and far between), it is time to decide whether your cos-play hobby is starting to cost you more than the bennies it provides. Family ostracizing you? Check. Lost your job after being outed as a Capitol Rioter? Check. No dates with normal women? Check. Might be time to rethink that whole "3% violent revolution" thing. We are here for you, as you wind down, and come back to reality. First thing, you know, dark matter may not be what you think it is. Just saying. We're pulling for you! And, not like that.

I feel some sympathy for people whose mental health was tied so strongly to the election that they were affected when it didn't go their way.

Actually, I don't. I mostly feel revulsion at people who won't grow up and realize that the Universe doesn't revolve about their asshole. They are (supposedly) grown adults who are throwing temper tantrums.

Hey, I was disappointed four years ago when Trump won. But I accepted it and moved on. I didn't try to overthrow the government because of my disappointment with the election results. Hey, it's a democracy. Even if Hillary won the popular vote, the system is what it is.

I had pretty much the same reaction. The difference between us and the Trump brigade is that we (you and I) decided to mold our actions around accepting reality. I just wish that (some) Trump voters would do the same and acknowledge that Trump lost. As you said, it would go a long way toward winning your (and my) trust. Unfortunately, I see little reason to believe that this will ever happen.

I just wonder what happens after March 4 comes and goes...and Biden is still President.
