A second Google A.I. researcher says the company fired her:

Two months after the jarring departure of a well-known artificial intelligence researcher at Google, a second A.I. researcher at the company said she was fired after criticizing the way it has treated employees who were working on ways to address bias and toxicity in its artificial intelligence systems.

Margaret Mitchell, known as Meg, who was one of the leaders of Google's Ethical A.I. team, sent a tweet on Friday afternoon saying merely: "I'm fired."

Google confirmed that her employment had been terminated. "After conducting a review of this manager's conduct, we confirmed that there were multiple violations of our code of conduct," read a statement from the company.

The statement went on to claim that Dr. Mitchell had violated the company's security policies by lifting confidential documents and private employee data from the Google network. The company said previously that Dr. Mitchell had tried to remove such files, the news site Axios reported last month.

[...] Dr. Mitchell's post on Twitter comes less than two months after Timnit Gebru, the other leader of the Ethical A.I. team at Google, said that she had been fired by the company after criticizing its approach to minority hiring as well as its approach to bias in A.I. In the wake of Dr. Gebru's departure from the company, Dr. Mitchell strongly and publicly criticized Google's stance on the matter.

[...] Google announced in a blog post yesterday that an executive at the company, Marian Croak, who is Black, will oversee a new group inside the company dedicated to responsible A.I.

Apart from the sanitized press statements, does anybody know why this is happening at Google?

    Here's a source from that, from about a month ago: https://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/2021/01/20/google-locks-ai-researchers-computer-access.html [bizjournals.com]

Google confirmed the action against Mitchell in a statement to Axios: "Our security systems automatically lock an employee’s corporate account when they detect that the account is at risk of compromise due to credential problems or when an automated rule involving the handling of sensitive data has been triggered. In this instance, yesterday (Monday) our systems detected that an account had exfiltrated thousands of files and shared them with multiple external accounts. We explained this to the employee earlier today."

She was probably in the process of something radical and woke. This is from Mitchell's letter relating to the Gerbu firing: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ERi2crDToYhYjEjxRoOzO-uOUeLgdoLPfnx1JOErg2w/edit [google.com]

... firing seems to have been fueled by the same underpinnings of racism and sexism...
... the inclusion of diverse experiences ...
... approach that can only function well with inclusion of diverse experiences ...
    ... diversity, and inclusion ...
... We were already aligned on the idea of developing AI in a new way, with diversity and inclusion at its core ...
    ... while working non-stop on inclusion ...
... has vastly expanded the network of Black people working in AI ...
... let those of us in positions of privilege and power come to terms with the discomfort of being part of an unjust system ...

And her twitter feed: https://twitter.com/mmitchell_ai [twitter.com]
Her posts tend focus on race in that familiar way of the extremely white and extremely woke. Familiar words such as: exhausted, trauma. Frequent reference to racism and sexism: https://twitter.com/mmitchell_ai/status/1361456286974418946 [twitter.com]

Maybe it's not Black women who need to be trained. Maybe the people powering the system that says Black women need to be trained could use some training instead

Not so veiled threats illuminating the toxicity of wokeism -- "bow to our demands or things get worse": https://twitter.com/mmitchell_ai/status/1362577042722619393 [twitter.com]

Alienation gives rise to radicalization. This is an important bit to wrap one's head around. If you're a company struggling with employees who seem increasingly radicalized, the most effective way to further radicalize them is to further alienate them. Inclusion helps.

They missed a trick - she could have become a BEAST in human resources. So your diversity statement is only 6 pages? And only 1 day of community outreach per week? Bullshit are you getting that promotion.

Another word for troublemaker is disruptive. Silly Valley wants to disrupt everyone else but doesn’t want anyone to blow the whistle on them. Fucking hypocrites.

She was pushing against bias in AI, same as the previous woman fired for the same reason. Seems only women want to address this problem - the privileged white men see this bias as a feature, not a bug.

It amazes me that people still don't get it. All of these "Social Justice" people are spies. The pissed-off Gamergaters tracked them down to the Pakistani operation [deepfreeze.it] that launched them all, their desk in the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office [archive.org], their Marxist-Islamist support network [deepfreeze.it], and their Rothschild financier [archive.org]. It turns out that the whole US government was a proxy for Alwaleed and Al-Thani for eight years [catbox.moe] while the UK was even worse [catbox.moe].

This is all completely true. What blows my mind is how often people like this can say the right words while remaining completely oblivious to their meaning.
