Study shows a third of COVID survivors suffer neurological or mental disorders :
One in three COVID-19 survivors in a study of more than 230,000 mostly American patients were diagnosed with a brain or psychiatric disorder within six months, suggesting the pandemic could lead to a wave of mental and neurological problems, scientists said.
Researchers who conducted the analysis said it was not clear how the virus was linked to psychiatric conditions such as anxiety and depression, but that these were the most common diagnoses among the 14 disorders they looked at.
[...] The new findings, published in the Lancet Psychiatry journal, analysed health records of 236,379 COVID-19 patients, mostly from the United States, and found 34 per cent had been diagnosed with neurological or psychiatric illnesses within six months.
The Lancet article includes this disclaimer:
Big-data studies of this kind have intrinsic limitations, even when drawing on 81 million people, 236 379 of whom had COVID-19. In this pandemic context, not all individuals who are infected with SARS-CoV-2 (particularly those with mild or asymptomatic illness) will be diagnosed, which could result in some contamination of the comparison groups.
The question: will severe, enduring, and less common conditions such as psychoses behave more like neurological disorders or common mental disorders? Among the COVID-19 cohort in this study, a first diagnosis of a psychotic disorder was substantially more common in patients hospitalised with COVID-19.
Lungs, hearts and brains..

Economy - virtually anything's better than an ill-timed tax-cut with no plan to deal with the revenue shortfall. Oh and an infrastructure plan is badly needed for the USA anyway. Education - You can't be fucking serious, pleassssse tell me how you're gonna defend Betsy Devos. Security - no new insurrections since Joe took over, definitely a win there. Our generals in the Pentagon are COVID-free as well, that's a plus this year. International Relations - Joe's big on gaffes but I'm having a hard time imaging he'll salute the general of an enemy dictator or send a half-tweet that puts the Pentagon on high alert for fifteen minutes. Border - most of your border problems are fictitious, and the wall was just a pork project. Biden's already gotten very public criticism over the kids in cages (why didnt you guys ever stand up to your candidate? HE WORKED FOR YOU!) so if he neglects that you could have a point with lefties standing shoulder to shoulder with you. Race - You can't be serious, even as VP Biden's track record was already better. Debt / Inflation - too early to tell, you could have a point here down the road. Trump faced this and never gave you a serious proposal about what he was going to do about it. Lotsa time for golf and campaigning, tho. Prospects - Yep, though the Potatohead Branding was pretty touch-and-go for a while there, we barely got through that.
Medical Care - What a rather telling omission from you. Yes I *definitely* feel a lot better about that.
Oh and the Inauguration was better, too. ;)

There's a whole world of news services out there to see. As Tex Ritter sings in current Disney TV commercials: There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, waiting at the end of every day. Of course they're advertising going to Florida, not California. The point is that there are known knowns, and unknown knowns, and unknown unknowns, and you're better off looking around.

Convolution is a specialty. It takes the ability to wander for a half hour and have the confidence that the reader trusts you to get back to where you... it's like trying to write a story, and have no idea where you're going, and hoping the reader thinks you do. Kind of like when you decide that you're supposed to talk about Trump and you really want to work in the topic of Biden sniffing hair, but then you get to comparing hair, and realize there's no clear winner between Trump and Biden. Except that Trump does an excellent job with hair spray. Trust me.
I'll tell you the truth of this whole matter, when the powers that be finish moderating this thread, you're all going to be +4 Insightful, and I'm going to be all -1 Troll.
