Seems to me that the downmodded comments were not sufficiently downmodded. Such true idiocy needs to be modded appropriately. Remember, modding up does not mean "agree", but modding down can mean "this is an idiotic comment".

I rewrote everything yesterday and today -- not to do anything different -- but to do what it does already with fewer resources extracted from SN. Today however, I ran both processes so it has a heavy day with the duplication. This was necessary in order to avoid missing a large tranche of posts and to also keep track of what I've already reviewed so I don't duplicate. Anyway, I have my new baseline in my new system and I'm good to go from now on.

What I really like about this new system is that I'll be able to track changes to the moderation levels of posts over time -- not at the granular level that clicking the post id gives -- but the change in score and tag published in the comments section of a story or journal entry at my snapshot time from day to day. That will give me the chance to instantly know without manually looking, whether posts that had not been downmodded when I first reviewed them, become downmodded at a later date. In my previous system, once I had examined a post, I did not return to it. This left a hole which modbombers could exploit -- now filled.

I cannot tell you how much safer this makes me feel, just knowing Hemocyanin is on the Wall, part of the Black Watch, keeping us all a little bit less likely to be mod-bombed. Of course, I never was mod-bombed before, so I don't know what it would be like, but it must be a terrible thing, given all the work our hero hemo had heaped on the horriffic heresy of hogging heterodox humanity hunted like hounds honely for their opinions.

It is sort of like the loaded shotgun I keep under my couch, just in case there is a "home invasion" or terrorist attack at my house. Better safe than sorry, I say! Did kill a dog accidently when one of the kids jumped a little to hard just in the right spot, but, like I say, I feel safer.

Remember, Hemo on the Wall, we need him on that wall! We want him on the Wall! Winter is coming!

Sometimes a post gets downmodded or ignored entirely because it's basically empty of useful information or outright false, in addition to trollish (or not).

    - No one is obligated to upmod or even read every single brain-turd the local branch of the Q Qucks Qlan squeezes out onto these forums.
    - It's not some kind of attack on civil rights or "cancel culture" to leave valueless posts alone to rot.
    - Free speech is not a guarantor of a captive audience.
    - A post being left alone or downmodded is not some kind of evil leftist groupthink conspiracy to censor it.
    - Many of these posts are valueless because they are false, trollish, or some combination of both; that they coincide with a generally "conservative" (in the US sense) political leaning says more about their originating posters...and US conservatism...than anything.

Wasting mod points on cowards is not worthy at all.

If someone does not value his opinion enough to stake his own reputation on it, why should anyone else waste a resource on it?

We use nicknames for a reason: that's a separation layer from the real world identities. That creates an identity fixpoint in infinite continuum of virtual personalities.
Anonymous Coward is... like a mud, indifferentiated sludge collective of bacteria feeding on anything at reach.

Your campaign for encouraging borgs to become better borgs is futile.

On one level this perfectly correct -- mod points spent on AC carry no karma value. On the other hand, when there are some who use moderation abusively, presenting them with targets such as upmodded AC posts to attack, impairs those abusive users' ability to harm logged-in users.

On the topic of whether AC's opinion is valueless because AC doesn't attach a fake name to it -- I guess I disagree. The logical conclusion to this road is that no opinion is valuable unless a real name is attached to it, but there are often good reasons for people to publish anonymously opinions which are valuable. But this is untrue! ACs can be shadowbanned by IP address, filtered, blocked, based on unpublished accumulation. I find it troubling you have so little understanding of a system you seek to reform.

What shameless hylocrisy hemo. Not only did you select very ideologically biased sames over all your journals but now you are focusing on unmoderated posts? Reread the title of your own journal. You are waging a psyop campaign with changing criteria that all hinge on your personal valuations, being open about it is merely one step better than what facebook and twitter do. We've seen that doing bad things out in the open gets a lot more of a pass from people because bad things are usually hidden, but that doesn't change your actions just their perceptions.

Don't worry, on the scale of fascism you are probably only at 4/10 trying to manipulate a community for your own ideological reasons. Baby steps hemo, you'll get there I am sure.

Thank goodness the 3 members who read at filter +1 are now exposed to the proper right wing disinformation. Of course, the obvious butthole is that that was the reason they were reading at +1, to avoid all the rightwing disinformation! I think it is time to retire hemo. Put him out to pasture. Send him to the Farm. Take down his shingle. Unplug his buffer overflows. Cancel the Hemo. Erase his name from all Egyptian monuments. Take down his Confederate War Memorial. Place him on the list of "difficult patients". Let the HUAC ball his name with black. Brand him with Trump across his backside. Have the FCC take away his broadcast license. Bury him under tons of AC comments with no moderation. Counter-journal this insidious attempt to manipulate the SN moderation system, and overthrow a democratically run news aggregation website.

That isn't stopping anything, that is highlighting posts to get them modded up. I've seen a few myself that I modded up and down. Your problem is in thinking this will actually stop anyone's moderation behavior, but possibly you're correct, maybe there are some downmod trolls who will get frustrated by their efforts being countermanded.
