Someone once suggested I join Mensa since my SAT and GRE scores automatically qualified me.
I then figured the "smart" move was _not_ to pay somebody to certify that I was smart.
Now, forty years later, check this out: Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.

In my callow youth, I did join Mensa, as both my SAT and ACT scores qualified me to join. I went to a party held by the local group. To let you know my level of social awkwardness and introvertedness, I showed up on time.
I learned a valuable lesson that night. Only the extroverted folks go to the parties. I let some blowhard that everyone else was obviously trying to avoid, "corner" me and tell me all about his physics experiments at his department at the local university. That way I didn't need to try to come up with something to say; throwing a question at this guy occasionally was all that was required to keep his verbal flow going.
I did leave early, though. I didn't renew my membership the next year.
