If this is the guy that has 13 kids, I am curious whether you are concerned about the future your kids can have. A big reason I have no desire to have kids is thinking about whether they can have a decent life when they grow up.

I see how lucky I was that I got into programming in the current era, while others who went with more difficult majors (IMO) ended up with half my salary, while the management class makes double or triple what I do.

The world is overpopulated, and social opinion is biased against members of my race and gender. "Rockstar" fields, like programming is now, may not exist in the future or my kids may not have the aptitude to work in them. And a purposeless life on government handouts spent living in Terrafoam is not something I want to bring them into either.

I am very concerned about the future my kids will have, so I made lots of kids. Think about what you do when you are concerned about the future your data will have: you make backup copies and/or get a RAID system. It's the same thing. With each kid having half my DNA, they add up to 6.5 replicas. Once they move away from home, I will have off-site backups. Some may fail at life, but I have many others.

BTW, when I load the page my initial comment shows up as "Comment Below Threshold (5 children)". No silly, it's 13 children.

Except the carriers of this "data" are living, feeling human beings that are somehow going to have to live through an 80 year lifespan.

If anyone else wants to "backup their data", send off for a kit from 43 and me, and let the police keep the "data" safe.

I don't know of anybody still reproducing at 80 years. My kids don't need to survive that long.

If they make it to 20 years, they may already have enough offspring to replace themselves.

If they make it to 40 years, they may have produced all that can be produced. Especially for the females, that biological clock ticks to a stop.

If they make it to 60 years, they may have an empty nest. Beyond that, they are not so important. Perhaps they can advise their adult kids and grandkids.

DNA is overrated. It is the memes that count in the end.

Memes don't satisfy my biological urge.

I'm not about to invent anything like fire, the wheel, Islam, phonetic alphabets, the "0" digit, or sliced bread. Even if I did, it wouldn't amount to anything much. It's shallow trivial crud. DNA is me.

As a side effect though, the memes do spread. Leftists average about 1.5 kids per woman, while the right is at 2.5 kids per woman. One of those is exponential decay, and the other is exponential growth. The occasional temporary victory for the left will not overcome the long-term population advantage.

How many of those right-leaning kids are indoctrinated in education facilities? With control of the media, social networks, and higher education, the ideas on the left will not perish much like the last piece of fruitcake.

Political views are significantly influenced by DNA. The genes are known, so you can actually test for it. I guess your grandparents weren't purebred. Not that religion equals politics of course: I'll guess your grandparents were big into the charity and turning the other cheek. Most religions, Christianity included, can be leftist.

So anyway, my kids have my DNA. I moved to a conservative county. The kids are homeschooled. They participate in a conservative homeschooling group with other kids, and they participate in extra-conservative scouting groups, and they participate in conservative religious groups. I'm far-right, and my kids make me look like a leftist. My kids like to go protest abortions. Personally, I like how abortions kill leftist kids before birth, so I don't wish to stop abortions at all. My kids miss Rush Limbaugh and Herman Cain.

Like the fact that it is not, schooling, that is.

Seems most of the "conservatives" think that education is just brainwashing, so when they home-school they just are trying to brainwash the way they like it. They also think that as "owners" of their children, they should be able to customize them as they desire, so, homeschooling, genital mutilation, peircings, and bleach-therapy for the COVID. (Not even going to say, "pimp my child"!) But the thing is, when these children grow up, and are on their own, they get to decide what Adult Day-care or nursing home you go to. And they may not be happy about how you treated them when they were young. You cain't teach "stupid".

Why Do Home-schooled Children Outperform? Their Parents
I know there are some who might use the finding that home-schooled children outperform their public school counterparts as an argument against the latter, but "the system" is apparently not the telling factor here. Nope. It's parents. Homeschooled children tend to outperform traditionally-educated kids, because their parents are more involved and the kids respond to that involvement.

The fact is, home schooling runs the gamut, from inferior to superior. The better educated the teachers, the better educated the students. While public schooling has been demonstrated to be little more than indoctrination into political views, and employer's expectations. The educational levels of the "teachers" has modest if any impact on the education of the students.

Before judging home schooled people, you should take inventory of all the figures in history who educated themselves in "non-traditional" methods. Read and learn - http://learningabe.info/Lincoln_education.html [learningabe.info]

II. Abraham's Education: From the John L. Scripp's Interview of Abraham

Lincoln in 1860 (in the Chicago Tribune)

While here (Indiana farm), Abraham went to A B C schools by littles, kept successively by Andrew Crawford,--Sweeney, and Azel W. Dorsey. He does not remember any other. The family of Mr. Dorsey now resides in Schuyler County, Illinois. Abraham now thinks that the aggregate of all his schooling did not amount to one year. He was never in a college or academy as a student, and never inside of a college or academy building till since he had a law license. What he has in the way of education he has picked up. After he was twenty-three and had separated from his father, he studied English grammar--imperfectly, of course, but so as to speak and write as well as he now does. He studied and nearly mastered the six books of Euclid since he was a member of Congress. He regrets his want of education, and does what he can to supply the want.

              FACT LIST OF LINCOLN'S EDUCATION

When his father could spare him from chores, Lincoln attended an ABC school. Such schools were held in log cabins, and often the teachers were barely more educated than their pupils.
According to Lincoln, “no qualification was ever required of a teacher beyond readin', writin', and cipherin', to the Rule of Three.” Including a few weeks at a similar school in Kentucky,
Lincoln had less than one full year of formal education in his entire life-- all in short winter-time periods to not interfere with farm work during the important seasons.
Abe's stepmother encouraged his quest for knowledge.
At an early age he could read, write, and do simple arithmetic.
Books were scarce on the Indiana frontier, but besides the family Bible, which Lincoln knew well, he was able to read the classical authors Aesop, John Bunyan, and Daniel Defoe, as well as William Grimshaw's History of the United States (1820) and Mason Locke Weems's Life and Memorable Actions of George Washington (about 1800). This biography of George Washington made a lasting impression on Lincoln, and he made the ideals of Washington and the founding fathers of the United States his own.
By the time Lincoln was 19 years old, he had reached his full height of 1.93 m (6 ft 4 in). He was lean and muscular, with long arms and big hands that gave him an awkward appearance. Although he had remarkable strength, he never liked farm work. He preferred instead the easy congeniality that he found at the general store in nearby Gentryville. A neighbor recalled “Abe was awful lazy, he would laugh and talk and crack jokes and tell stories all the time.”
Abe's childhood schools were in small log cabins with holes for windows. There were few, if any books. The Bible was used as the reading source in the later schools.
Teachers were called "wizzards" if they could read, write, cipher to the rule of three, and knew Latin. One of his teachers spent their school time learning manners of the time. He only lasted a year.
Sarah Bush Lincoln, Abraham's step mother was illiterate like Thomas, but encouraged Abraham's unusual ways in desiring to learn and read.

BTW, how does one RAID one's kids?

The best to my taste: on strips, with parity, on multiple plates, in different storages**
The striped kids last longer if deep frozen too. (grin)
