Joking aside, the story I tell myself is that Microsoft is a very different company than it used to be. I don't think I could have worked for Mr. Balmer, but Mr. Nadella is very different man. (How different? e.g. My primary workstation ran Linux and was supported for a data center migration project when I needed it.) The other part of it is that I feel I have more impact driving change inside the company vs. shouting at the gates.
I don't trust Nadella even as far as my WFH atrophied muscle can throw a stick (but that's irrelevant and inconsequential anyway). But I like how the dotnet is progressing since it started as OSS - a lot better than Java and certainly well ahead of many other proglangs, PERL and Python included.
