John Cena Shows ‘Gutlessness’ In Apology To China, Critics Say

Movie star and pro wrestler John Cena was taken to the mat by critics Tuesday for apologizing to China after he called Taiwan a country in an interview.

Cena told Taiwanese media that Taiwan would be the first “country” to be able to see his new “Fast and Furious” film “F9,” prompting backlash in China, which considers the self-ruled democratic island nation its own territory, The Associated Press reported. China often takes suggestions of Taiwan independence as an insult.

“In one interview, I made a mistake,” Cena said in Mandarin in a video posted Tuesday to Chinese social media, per AP. “I need to say now that this is very, very, very, very, very important. I love and respect China and the Chinese people. I’m very, very sorry. As for my mistake, I really apologize for it.”

China is the new sheriff in town

Who will be the sheriff in China in the future? The present government is pretty shaky.

Taiwan doesn't have to stay independent forever (though they might be able to manage that). They just need to stay independent long enough to get a better deal.

China will see the light and form a government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations.

If so, that's a vast improvement over the present where it's a government of the Communist Party corporation. Let's not forget that businesses aren't the only corporations out there.

Government is a business, built by business for business. It serves as part of the corporation, as the main rent collector, and of course provides security services, enforcing contracts, etc. The "democracy" is ceremonial, the old man is a figurehead, like the queen

Sure the US has a major problem with corporatocracy that edged way too close to full fascism recently, but until Citizen's United action by the people did have an impact. Now we're sliding away from that where government and corporate powers do what they want, push out some PR, and call it day.

China is a dictatorship turning into fascism, and Russia is somewhere inbetween though closer to China with how blatantly they can persecute political opponents.

Your broad allegations do away with nuance and seed hopelessness. Just FYI in case you want to move past highschool philosophy.

:-) Your perceptions are pure Hollywood, right out of the cheap novels. USA/Russia/China/etc, the culture of political and business leadership is universally psychopathic. People who claim it's "hopeless" only do so to evade responsibility for their own role in making it all happen. "Citizens United" doesn't compel the voters to reelect 40 year incumbents, that's their own damn fault.

I did so in the last election. My horses lost badly. Oh well.

Meanwhile, you've been whining for months because the Democrats refuse to do some particularly stupid things (the latest appears to be the "public option is off the table" quote from Pelosi). I think you exhibit a more serious class of failure that you need to accept your part in, since it's all your failure, not just some hypothetical failure that all voters share equal, meaningless blame in.

Sorry 'bout that. Didn't see it was you I replied to. But yes, I do expect people to know that alternate parties can win if they vote for them, same goes for public health care and anything else they might want. They have to realize they are not helpless, that it is a well documented learned condition. These are evasion tactics. On the contrary they have to accept responsibility for the politicians they reelect. In fact, that might have to be the first step.

A lot of that they don't want too. I'm sure that most voters would like public health care that they don't have to pay for. When they do, well they don't want it as much.
