it is technically possible to take the laptop up the mountain and use it drenched in the cloud (in practice not much different from a fog once you're in it). but I don't see how it would help with the whole "high quality recording" undercurrent present in the question.

What about running a DAW in the cloud?
The lower I set my standards the more accomplishments I have.
