DeepMind creates 'transformative' map of human proteins drawn by artificial intelligence
AI research lab DeepMind has created the most comprehensive map of human proteins to date using artificial intelligence. The company, a subsidiary of Google-parent Alphabet, is releasing the data for free, with some scientists comparing the potential impact of the work to that of the Human Genome Project, an international effort to map every human gene.
[...] Previously, determining the structure of a protein relied on expensive and time-consuming experiments. But last year DeepMind showed it can produce accurate predictions of a protein's structure using AI software called AlphaFold. Now, the company is releasing hundreds of thousands of predictions made by the program to the public.
"I see this as the culmination of the entire 10-year-plus lifetime of DeepMind," company CEO and co-founder Demis Hassabis told The Verge. "From the beginning, this is what we set out to do: to make breakthroughs in AI, test that on games like Go and Atari, [and] apply that to real-world problems, to see if we can accelerate scientific breakthroughs and use those to benefit humanity."

Unlike you, I have no enemies.
My sister's husband was such a racist, he got booted out of boot camp [failed the psych screening]. Broke his heart too, cause he had been dead-set on serving in Nam. Still, we broke bread, visited one another and exchanged gifts. You can pretend there is no racism and white supremacy, but I've sat with it at Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner. At the same time, this man was the most civic-minded individual I have ever met, dedicating nearly every moment of his free time to volunteer fire-fighting. He raised three amazing daughters and made sure they all were trained in the use of guns.
With a different sibling, my sister-in-law is the blackest, most beautiful southern belle you could ever imagine. My brother was the smartest in the family and if you sport a pace-maker or a stent, there is a good chance he had a hand in it's development. Still he managed to marry a woman of color who was even smarter than he was. You wish you had a wife as wonderful as his. She raised a son and two daughters - all of whom graduated with honors.
Everyone in this story is college educated - some with advanced degrees. Everyone is civil to one-another and God-fearing - vying with one another at doing good.
My BFF growing up was Latino, and my current bestie is a native of Palau. I have a jap daughter-in-law, a chilean daughter-in-law and an adoptive grandson half jap, half chinese. My step-mom is Jewish, my neighbor Iranian, my grand-mother Polish. There is no racial slur you can use that will not offend me in some way. Welcome to the world of humanity.
