With COVID out of control, Biden unveils hefty vaccine mandates:

President Joe Biden on Thursday unveiled a sweeping six-pronged plan to try to regain control over the COVID-19 pandemic, which is wildly raging once again in the US.

[...] The main focus of the president's "Path out of the Pandemic" plan is on reducing the number of unvaccinated people in the country. As such, the plan's most prominent elements are hefty vaccination requirements for millions of federal employees, health care workers, school employees, and even employees of private businesses.

Biden signed an executive order Thursday requiring COVID-19 vaccines for millions of federal workers plus millions more federal contractors. The new vaccine mandate eliminates a previous option that allowed federal workers to undergo regular testing in lieu of vaccination.

In addition to mandating vaccines for federal workers, Biden will also require vaccination for over 17 million health care workers who work at facilities that receive federal funding. The administration had previously required vaccination for all staff of federally funded nursing homes. The new requirements will extend vaccine mandates to hospitals, dialysis facilities, ambulatory surgical settings, and home health agencies—most facilities that receive Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements.

[...] The administration is also working on a rule—to be implemented through the Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration—that will require employers with 100 or more workers to ensure that their workforce is fully vaccinated or submits to regular COVID-19 testing. The rule is expected to apply to over 80 million employees nationwide. OSHA is also working on a separate rule that will require those employers to provide paid time off to get vaccinated.

For schools, Biden will require vaccination for the nearly 300,000 staff in federal Head Start and Early Head start programs. He will also put pressure on governors to get all teachers and school staff vaccinated. Last, the administration will push more schools to implement regular testing, which will be funded by $10 billion the administration already allocated to schools earlier this year.

If Republicans were capable of exercising some personal responsibility we wouldn't be here. Don't want the vaccine? Fine, just wear a mask and stay two meters away from others to cut transmission. That's what people around me have done if they don't want the shot and it's worked. If everyone had acted responsibly we wouldn't be seeing the massive numbers we now have and there'd be no need to make the vaccine mandatory.

Of course if they were capable of exercising personal responsibility they wouldn't be Republicans in the first place, so I guess my point is kinda moot.

False. Even with the reduced efficacy of the Pfizer vaccine against the delta variant, it still does provide some protection against being infected. Vaccinated people are less likely to develop COVID, so they're also less likely to be spreading it to others.

Why do you, and so many others like you, insist on spreading misinformation?

There is a joke going around Poland at the moment which encapsulates the national character perfectly:

A German is told he has to have the Covid vaccine. He is uncertain. ‘It’s an order,’ the doctor says, and so he agrees.
A British man is told the same. He wavers. ‘Do it for Queen and country,’ the doctor says. He agrees.
A French man is told ‘It’s the fashionable thing to do’, and he agrees, too.
Finally, a Pole has his turn. The doctor says: ‘You’re Polish, you definitely won’t take the vaccine.’ The Pole replies: ‘Don’t tell me what I think. Give me that vaccine!’

To add more reasons for NOT getting vaccinated:

    1. Vaccinated? Your travel plans can be derailed due to political wrangling ongoing with the Covid debate:
    Example: https://www.independent.co.uk/asia/india/accept-our-vaccines-or-face-consequences-india-warns-eu-b1876201.html [independent.co.uk]
    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/lifestyle/travel/which-countries-have-banned-the-astrazeneca-covishield-indian-vaccine/ar-AAM8Tc5 [msn.com]

    2. Pharma and Money a toxic motivator:
Example: Poland will give you the first vaccination free, then you have to pay thereafter.
Sounds just like a typical street level drug dealer, not a wonder they are skeptical.

"3. Just like software, maybe waiting for a better version with some proven history is a good idea?"

Yes, that absolutely was a great plan about a year ago!

But now, it IS proven as much safer than getting the virus and effective and keeping you out of the ICU and lowering the odds of transmission.

The problem is that the big bad govt has said dumb thing so many times that if the get right, who's to know?
      1) It will just go away. (To prevent panic.)
      2) Masks are not helpful. (To save them for the docs.)
      3) Masks are a sign of political beliefs. (A really cynical plan which actually kills your base?)
      4) The vaccine is safe, full stop. (Provably wrong, because it has a few occasional side effects, but is a damn site safer than the alternative.)
      5) Third dose? (Would it not be smarter to vaccinate the rest of the world first?)

So when they say that vaccine should be required, their batting history says otherwise even if this time they are actually correct.

Perhaps the first step should be to put folks without their shots on the bottom of the list for ICU beds, free rent, etc.

If YOU want to talk death rates, notice that the number of those who died from COVID is 1/10 or less (depending on age) of those who died from other causes, for those under 50; and if we limit ourselves to the COVID pneumonia (that thing media constantly scare people with), it is less than 1/10 for ALL age groups.

Hmm. Let's see what people die from in the US [cdc.gov], shall we?

And let's take a look at the Covid related deaths [worldometers.info]. Of course this number represents 1.5 years, so we might want to adjust it. I trust you can do the math.

Well, let's be honest here, it's hard to beat heart diseases and cancer in the death statistics, they are just way, way too far in the lead. But being third ain't so bad, is it?

Now, of course Covid preys mostly on the elderly but guess what: So do heart diseases and cancer. A 65 year old is roughly ten times as likely to die in any given year than a 35 year old. Of any reason.

In other words, I'd still rather take my chances with your "Russian roulette". But hey, as long as there's people like you, infection rates stay up and I can stay in my home office.
