Elon Musk was recently interviewed at an MIT Symposium. An audience asked his views on artificial intelligence (AI). Musk turned very serious, and urged extreme caution and national or international regulation to avoid "doing something stupid" he said.

"With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon", said Musk. "In all those stories where there's the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it's like, 'Yeah, he's sure he can control the demon.' Doesn't work out."

You seem to be stating that profit-motive* is not a, or the, primary goal ("intention") for the majority of the other 95% who don't control industry. While I do not believe that everyone's highest motive is for a Rand-ian "selfish interest", in my worldview it seems apparent that much of the corruption and evil come from individuals' selfishness at the expense of their neighbors -- and not just from those "at the top".

I am not exempt from this sad truth, whether it be in my own family situation, or in my actions in the context of the wider communities I'm a part of. But I can recognize it, and try to instead act in brotherly love (sometimes at the expense of my own profit).

Sure, most people have a profit motive. But few would consider it high intentions.
