IKEA has furnished and is renting out a 10 m2 apartment in central Tokyo for about a dollar per month. It's clearly a gimmick of sorts as the furniture in the apartment are worth a lot more then that. Still looking at the pictures it looks like living in a nicely furnished prison cell, that is also very high (floor to ceiling). Any takers for such compact living? I dont think climbing around on ladders to get around is for me.

It seems very futuristic though; it is a staple of sci-fi to pack people like sardines in a can (Ripley's apartment in aliens, 5th element etc., etc.)

Back in college I rented a 12x12’ cabin across the street from campus. It was not tall, so besides the bed being high up to allow space below the third dimension was not used. The major plus was you could never accumulate too much crap. For a single person I could see 10m x 10m working, just use the saved rent to go have fun instead of buying massive house that eats up all your fun money.

10m x 10m would make it 100m^2. Which is a decent sized house. This is 10m^2 in total. As in it's about 3,1x 3,2 m^2 or if you will it's about 2x5 m^2. Or about 1/10th of how large you think it is.

Barely big enough to strangle a cat. Trust me on that.

It takes less room to choke a chicken than to strangle a cat.

      10m x 10m = 100m^2.

      3.16m x 3.16m = 10m^2

      Your cabin was 13.38m^2

10m x 10m is approx 900 sq ft., which is quite generous for a single person. I had a 500 sq. ft. in the city, and now I have a 750 sq. ft. in the country with a small spare bedroom I just use to store junk.

fenghshui sayZ it's good if you canot see the main entrance from the bed ...
could they put some of these scattered across the, as advertised, scenic and beautiful japan?
would be a dream come thru if they also had coin-slots, so one could seeks shelter for a night after a fantastic day of yamaha-biking across the country? bonus points if the bike's electric and the "tent"-icl has a charging plug.
