Cyber Ninjas shutting down after judge fines Arizona audit company $50K a day
Cyber Ninjas, a firm hired by the Arizona state Senate to conduct a review of Maricopa County’s election results, on Thursday announced that it is shutting down after a county government report slammed the firm and a judge ordered it to pay $50,000 a day in fines.
Sam Levine, a reporter for The Guardian, first reported the news of Cyber Ninjas closing down on Thursday, tweeting that CEO “Doug Logan and the rest of the employees have been let go and Cyber Ninjas is being shut down.”
[....] Cyber Ninjas, which says it recounted 2.1 million ballots, confirmed Biden beat Trump in the state but claimed in its September draft report that thousands of ballots had issues, including duplicate ballots, voters who cast ballots multiple times and unregistered voters participating in the election.
Maricopa County released a report this month, arguing Cyber Ninjas made 22 misleading claims, 41 inaccurate claims and 13 claims that were false.
Cyber Ninjas, the firm hired to conduct a partisan review of election results in Maricopa County, Ariz., has been ordered to pay sanctions of $50,000 a day until it turns over records from the review sought by the Arizona Republic newspaper.
A superior court judge in Maricopa County found the Florida-based company in contempt of court Thursday and ordered the sanctions, according to the Republic.
Maricopa Superior Court Judge John Hannah had previously ordered the company to turn over emails, text messages and other documents to the publication.
“It is lucidly clear on this record that Cyber Ninjas has disregarded that order,” Hannah said.
Facing Fines, Arizona GOP Election ‘Audit' Company Cyber Ninjas Says It's Shutting Down
So let me see if I understand this:
Republicans declared 2020 the most secure election in history. Many republican judges and many of those appointed by Trump found nothing in all of the various lawsuits about the election. (This is all old news now)
Side note: other of my journal entries go into detail about the billions of dollars of damage caused by various idiots defaming Dominion and Smartmatic with lies. Lies that could easily have been fact checked. Yet these lies were carried on an (allegedly) "news" network to fan the flames that resulted in the Jan 6 insurrection -- which is having its own consequences.
Debunking the Cyber Nitwits lies:

Here's hoping they go after the individuals behind Cyber Nitwits to send a message you don't just get to ignore court orders to produce documents that might reveal the fraudulent nature of your alleged "audit".

What you would so readily dismiss as "TDS" is actually grave concern about continued efforts to undermine the integrity of elections. Right wingers are busy placing loyal election deniers in positions where they oversee elections, changing laws at the state level to suppress voting and make it easier for state legislatures to disregard vote counts, and parroting lies that continue to undermine confidence in the democratic process. You've written many comments about Joe Manchin, who might be a fool, or might be selling out the country to advance his political career. There are a number of ways to audit equipment without violating its integrity. Two of the most important rules are 1) maintain a full chain of custody; and 2) never allow write access to originals. By their own admission, Cyber Ninjas violated both of those. On its own, that is enough to warrant replacing the equipment both from an OpSec perspective and a legal requirement perspective. But the various reports go into further detail as to why the situation is even worse and the trust is broken. Fact of the matter is that even if they weren't required to replace the equipment by state and federal law, they would end up doing it anyway because it is cheaper than getting the old machines to the point where they could use them again.
The only good that can come of this is that a lot of used machines will probably show up on the secondary market.
(Score: 1, Informative) by Anonymous Coward on Saturday January 08 2022, @09:14PM
For one, an observer should be present at all times to ensure that the integrity of the machines is not compromised during the audit. The audit didn't track who had access to the machines, nor were people watching to prevent tampering with the machines. From https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/arizona-audit-voting-equipment/2021/05/20/a8370368-b9a4-11eb-a5fe-bb49dc89a248_story.html [washingtonpost.com]:
The fact that Maricopa County spent three million dollars on new voting machines means they're not confident that the machines weren't compromised.
When you don't have any physical security, there's no chain of custody, no observers to ensure that machines (and ballots) aren't tampered with, how can you continue to trust the machines? A real audit would follow all of those procedures to prevent machines from being tampered with while they're being audited.
When Maricopa County purchased new machines, they audited those machines. From https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/maricopa-county-tests-new-voting-machines-following-election-audit [fox10phoenix.com]:
One of the key differences is that observers were present who can verify that the machines weren't tampered with and that the tests were done correctly. You can and should audit the machines, but proper procedures need to be followed instead of how the Cyber Ninjas clown show conducted their audit.
