Ukraine’s membership is not on The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)’s agenda, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Friday.
“I also made it clear in Moscow and in my visit that this option [Ukraine’s membership of NATO] is not on the table and will not take place,” he said during an interview with German public broadcaster ZDF.
“I said publicly that we all know that Ukraine’s NATO membership is not on the alliance’s agenda today,” he added. “That was understood by the American president, that [was] also understood by the French president.”
Scholz said he shares Russian President Vladimir Putin’s security concern and clarified to Putin that Ukraine will not be allowed to join NATO.
“The Russians were worried about the control issue of their security. [Putin was worried] that NATO has a military setup and rockets in Ukraine targeting Russian territory. That is why we tried to make it clear that this will not occur,” he elaborated.
The Epoch Times has reached out to NATO’s press office for comment.
Ukraine’s pursuit of NATO membership appeared to be one of the core disputes that caused the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Ukraine’s leader has delivered a scorching and emotional attack on Nato – criticising it for refusing to enforce a no-fly zone and accusing it of leaving his people to die.
Speaking shortly Nato confirmed it would not offer such aerial protection to Ukraine, out of fear of triggering further conflict with Russia, Volodymyr Zelensky said the military alliance had abandoned his nation.
“All the people who die from this day forward will also die because of you, because of your weakness, because of your lack of unity,” he said in an address, sometime after midnight in Ukraine.
“The alliance has given the green light to the bombing of Ukrainian cities and villages by refusing to create a no-fly zone.”

For the record, Russia did indeed do some shooting at a nuclear plant, they set an administration building on fire, the Russians did capture the nuke plant - but there was zero damage to reactors, no fires in reactor buildings. At the time Zelensky made his speech, he may have believed that the reactors were damagd and on fire, but the facts don't support the claim.
Whether the West admits it, or not, Zelensky has been baiting the bear for years. He has marched steadily along, confident that when push came to shove, he would be admitted into NATO. All along, he has KNOWN that joining NATO was a red line for Russia. And, now, when he learns that he isn't going to get what he wants, he throws a tantrum, blaming NATO for his problems. Suddenly, it is NATO's fault that Russia is kicking the shit out of him. Not Russia's fault, any longer, but NATO's fault.
“We are warriors of light,” he (Zelensky) said. “The history of Europe will remember this forever.”
This ain't cosplay any longer, Mr. Zelensky. There is no comedy here, only tragedy. This is no video game, with clear winners and losers. Your attempt to sway world opinion worked, up to a point. Wiser heads than yours have decided that we will not have a nuclear war for your benefit. Maybe you should have come to terms with Putin when you first came to power. Maybe you should have shut down the forces fighting in the Donbass region as soon as you became president. You have had options, Mr. Zelensky. World War Three is off the table - now make the best of the remaining options.
One more time, for those who have failed to learn the lesson: There are no 'good guys' involved here. Not Ukraine, not Russia, not NATO, not the EU, not the US, not China, not India. Everyone has a role to play, and none of them have worn a white hat to play their role.

They only work to deter the wolves, if those wolves are sure you WILL kill them and yourselves if they try to force your surrender.
The ultra-cowardly reaction to COVID got the hungry wolves in Russia to smell a huge herd of fat, fearful, helpless sheep where once stood the bigger wolves who tore the USSR to pieces and spat out Russia, its non-nutritive carcass. If you believe the wolves will gobble Ukraine and stop there, you need a brain prosthesis as you obviously have no working braincell in your cranium then.
When Putin brandishes his nukes again and demands Baltic states, will you give us away to his thugs too, NATO obligations be damned? It is only one extra step on the cowardly way. But after killing us, Poland will surely be next. And yet someone else next. And next. And next. And in some years, it WILL be the surrender of YOUR country that he or his successor will be demanding. And then what?
You have nowhere to run on this planet. The longer you cower in fear, the more cornered you get, and the stronger and bolder the predator.

You don't have to tune in to Russian propaganda to find that the Donbass region has been at war for years. There are any number of reports from very credible sources, down to sensationalist bullshit reports about the ongoing war. And, as always, women and children have been killed aplenty in the region. Schools bombed out, power outages, hospitals attacked, home shelled, on and on it goes.

So what? That war would have been over in August 2014, if it weren't for years of Russian support.
As the grandparent noted, it's trivial for Russia to manufacture whatever pretexts it likes to invade the Baltic states and anyone else they feel like invading.
In particular, consider how little Russia has bothered to justify the invasion of the Ukraine! This "waging war in their eastern-most provinces/regions/states against Russian speaking and ethnic Russian people" is a pathetic excuse in the first place. It's not Russia's place to care about Russian speaking or ethnic Russians in countries that aren't Russia. And looks to me like Russia, by that war support above, is actually making the problem in the first place for those ethnic Russians that Russia alleged cares about.

Pew did a poll, and found exactly 19 Americans who care about what ari can or cannot abide. When questioned further, 18 of those 19 were found to have misunderstood the question, and changed their minds. That remaining American was determined to be a Russian plant.
