Geeez, people, too bad we didn't have a disinformation board in the McCarthy days, huh? All those commies and socialists could have been put into concentration camps. Nope. Gerry represented the Democratic-Republican Party, which was the originator of the concept in context of modern western democracies. That didn't fraction off into the Whigs, the National Republican Party, and the faction that merged into the not-yet extant modern Democratic party until a decade after his death.
