UK’s National Health Service has ordered the closure of a controversial gender clinic for children over a report revealing that some health staff felt pressured to take “an unquestioning affirmative approach” to children experiencing gender dysphoria.
The Tavistock Centre, in north London, is known as the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS). Tavistock was founded in 1920 and originally focused on helping WWI shellshock victims. Since then it has grown to encompass a variety of services under the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust banner, with GIDS focusing on child gender issues. Since 1989 GIDS has treated 19,000 children with gender dysphoria (the feeling that one’s true identity is the opposite gender of their physical body).
The external report expressed concerns, among them the lack of knowledge about the effects of puberty blockers. Dr. Hilary Cass, the head of the review, wrote a letter to the head of NHS England on July 19:
…the most significant knowledge gaps are in relation to treatment with puberty blockers, and the lack of clarity about whether the rationale for prescription is as an initial part of a transition pathway or as a ‘pause’ to allow more time for decision making.
We do not fully understand the role of adolescent sex hormones in driving the development of both sexuality and gender identity through the early teen years, so by extension we cannot be sure about the impact of stopping these hormone surges on psychosexual and gender maturation. We therefore have no way of knowing whether, rather than buying time to make a decision, puberty blockers may disrupt that decision-making process.
It’s interesting to read a professional admitting that they do not know everything about gender dysphoria and transition because every time I hear an “expert” they sound as if there are no unanswered questions and that we have a full understanding of the effects of hormone blockers and surgery. The linked comment above is now modded spam, but that is not good enough, now that the ban hammer has swung. Either Aristarchus' account must be restored or Ethanol-fueled and Runaway1956 must both be banned.
Failure to do either I think would be evidence that this site supports antisemitism.
A majority of users agree that the ban hammer holds the solution to the site's problems. Therefore, Runaway and Ethanol must be banned.

That has been clear a long time, but site staff had handcuffs made from frozen peaches they could point to. After banning aristarchus we found out the handcuffs are unlocked and rather tasty to staff. The bigots have driven nearly everyone off, and now runaway is bringing back his EF sock puppet to release his pent up political chum. Makes me sad to see humans so devoted to irrational hatred.

Any member of our community can moderate a story - I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. The fact that someone has received a spam moderation doesn't mean it was made by a member of staff.
Decisions regarding bans, or other matters regarding the operation of the site, are made by consensus.
I am willing to discuss this further if you can clarify what exactly you think that I have done / not done.

Clean up the spam mods. I am not aristarchus yet got a spam mod for pointing out the hypicrisy on the site. Censorship usually does start with preventing criticism. It is 100% ideological bias at work at this point. Someone mocks janrinok? Must be aristarchus! Must ban with soam mods! Just according to the site rules that allow spam mods (bans) for "filth" should have runaway and ethanol pilled banned, but instead any AC left of hitler must be aristarchus and thus harrassed repeatedly.

I am currently in bed! I don't sit on this site 24hrs a day. I usually check Spam moderations once or twice day. If someone thinks that your comment is Spam they may moderate it so. If we disagree then we will revert the moderation - but not at any time of the day or night that you want me to. If somebody repeatedly abuses the moderation system then we warn them about future abuse and the possible consequences.
I give my time voluntarily - that doesn't mean that I am at your beck and call. I don't work for you.
Lots of people make moderations. Lots of people receive them. I am not responsible for them. I am not the only admin responsible for cleaning them up either.
You don't know who has been banned recently unless they have told you, do you? There are different types of ban (moderation, commenting, anonymous commenting, submissions). You cannot tell what bans someone is currently serving.
I'll be back online tomorrow - when I choose to do so. And I will also be packing for my holiday and I have some appointments so my time will be limited.
Send an email if you have a particular problem that you think needs urgent attention.

Well, actually, I simply do not. For the longest time, I chalked this up to my lack of understanding. But lately, it is more and more clear that this is not the problem. SN allows anti-semitism and our generic Little River redneck hillbilly racism, to what end? The only conclusion one can draw, after the public banning of the leftist aristarchus, is that the site supports the alt-right, and all that goes with that. I do not understand how janrinok could allow this to happen.
