There is no shame in antisocial media. I am able to make dew with the "nun of these" option and not be shamed or embarrassed.
Social Media is not so much a "constellation" or "network" as it a fuster cluck. A centralized one unlike decentralized Usenet which could carry *ahem* certain newsgropes that some campuses or corporations would be embarrassed to host.

No. I did it very correctfully.
With your solution it is necessary to remove the letter "l" if interchanging prefixes. With my solution, you simply interchange the leading "f" and "cl" in the words fuster cluck. No letters have to go missing.

Clearly, the admin have weaponized Spam mods. Originally, they were meant for actual spam, and you should look at the raw journal feed for some idea of what any website is up against. By now, it think I need a Rock Crusher. But that is neither here, nor there. We had the debate over whether the Spam Mod could be used on spammish racist and right wing stupid posts, and the decision was, yes it could. TMB left immediately after that, for some reason, despite him being a siwash pill-boddie. And then we were left with the pure Alt-white-right, like Ncommander and janrinock, oh, and chromas. (Somehow, our SN Nazis always seem to hang behind the scenes, in IRC and nearly no where else.) So now anyone can Spam Mod anyone they disagree with, as long as that person might be aristarchus, or slightly left and anti-racist, like aristarchus, or flat-out anti-fascist, like the 101st Airborne, or aristarchus. Spam pile on the aristarchus.
Well, that is working out so well that hardly anyone posts here anymore, because of the censorship. Dead internet zone, they are calling it. Former discussion website, they denominate it. Janrinok is talking to ACs that he thinks he has identified, when to the rest of us, it looks like he is talking to a figment of his own imagination. And then he Spam Mods it. This is not healthy.
So, my suggestion, entire new admin and editorial crew. Remove the Spam mod. Institute a meta-moderation scheme, not under control of any self-appointed tyrants. Oh, and, quit trying to identify aristarchus. We are people of internet conversation, and lies do not become us.

Yes! A completely new site. Of you go then and create it. Perhaps we will come and marvel at your l33t skills when you finally get it going. Did you volunteer to help out, or even to do the routine admin when NCommander asked for volunteers in December?
I have undone 7 spam moderations in about the last week or so. We actually have a special page that displays all of the spam and troll mods so that we can undo them if necessary and check if anyone is abusing the moderation system. They are not.

Can you show me the posts by apk? We announced many months ago that we would delete Spam if we wished to do so. But you haven't shown that I have deleted anything.
You are banned. And if you have posted almost 20 identical posts - that would certainly be Spam. It would be repetitious, off-topic, and designed to disrupt the purpose of the discussions. It would be Spam.

I cannot see what you hope to achieve by your actions. If you wanted to rejoin our community you could have used one of your mulitple accounts that we left open for a while to see how you used them. But that didn't appear to be your reason for staying as you only used them to continue your abuse - much like you have been doing recently. You are doing nothing to make us reconsider your ban.
I am not going to be driven away by your silly claims. We are not going to disappear.
But you seem to be unsatisfied with your actions that caused the removal of ACs from the front pages and now it appears you want ACs banned from the journals too. You seem determined to force us to consider that as a possible option. You do not care who is inconvenienced by your own behaviour - no matter what moral high-ground you once claimed that you held (but, in fact, that you never did hold). Go on - try to explain what you hope to achieve so that others can stand behind you in support. But at least try to be truthful about it.

I'm on here, and a diesel truck forum, which is mostly frequented by farmers, ranchers, truckers, and those who are interested in the mechanics of the operation and maintenance of diesel engines.
I figure these groups represent the cream of the crop of what's left of humanity. We design stuff and make it work.
So far, I have yet to meet a farmer, rancher, trucker, mechanic, or similar tradesman I hold in contempt of being nothing but a useless parasite to society.
However the ones who profess leadership skills frequently earn my ire. Some people make things, some do nothing but destroy things others made.
It is bad for me to associate with them. They are masters at putting the fire that drives me.

I used to be on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. I had a Facebook account back when it was cool to have an account, which was around 2005. When they first added the news feed, I talked with many friends about how creepy it was that you could see a list of actions by your friends. Privacy is a slippery slope to the point that nobody complains about the news feed anymore, and people have accepted far greater abuses of privacy.
Around 4-5 years ago, I permanently stopped using all of them. For a week or two, it was a bit awkward not checking in. Now, I'm happy to be done with those platforms, and I can't envision ever going back to any of them. Not only do I not feel like I'm missing anything, but I think I'm much happier not being on any of those platforms. It really is addicting. At least for me, the best thing to do was just altogether deleting the apps, removing the sites from my browsing history so they don't show up in my browser's suggestions, and just not signing in.
The only social media platform that is even remotely interesting to me is Untappd. It is devoid of politics and other inane things that tend to show up on the aforementioned platforms. It's 100% about beer, and I do like trying new beers. But that's it for me. I'm not really sure how social it is anyway, particularly if you're just using it like you would use Ratebeer.

I caved into the Facebook pressure. My wife was all, you should join, and pointed out that I was tagged in a bunch of photos anyway. So, they already have bunches of data on me. So, I signed up for it. Posted a couple of things over the errmm..., who knows how long ago I created the account. Now, it's an essentially forgotten account that will collect dust, until Facebook goes poof or something. I could access it, if I wanted. I don't want and wish I could claw all my data back from Facebook. That isn't ever going to happen. So, the best I can do is make Facebook pay the infinitesimal amount they have to, to keep my account around.

There was nothing 'magic' about it. A small number of ACs harass certain users by personal attacks and spamming in an effort to dissuade them from commenting. It continues today and is widespread in the journals. It is the reason why ACs are no longer able to comment on the front page unless they are logged in.
And using childish insults is not going to help your case either.

Who has been censored? It cannot be you because you are posting now. You are still free to express yourself. So please, give me an example. People disagreeing with you and moderating you as they see fit is not censorship.
The sites original purpose (Feb 2014) was to discuss topics related primarily to STEM, but not exclusively so. That is exactly what we are doing today.

Clearly you have switched to alt-reality where users and ACs were never banned not due to site rules but arbitrary rules staff decided upon. Paired with your false accusations your invisible Code of Conduct is what is typically labeled fascism. You along with other users get to insult others freely, but when you or other puds are insulted suddenly you mount your high horse. Same issues with the types of deplorable speech you tolerate, and that which earns someone a ban. Humanity has codified laws for a reason, to stop petty tyrants from having an easy time abusing their power. Just codify your CoC already, you've already caved and admitted the site requires user management and strict rules against some of the worst behavior. Speaking of possible bans on "nazi-lites", when was the last time Ethanol-fueled [soylentnews.org] posted? He posted a few spam comments about Jews and hasn't been heard from since. I don't know if he's actually banned, but his antisemitism has been conspicuously absent from the site.
I do know for a fact that the site admins would like to start deleting racist and antisemitic comments. But the admins hesitate to do more because people like you will accuse them of censorship. However, you can see for yourself that janrinok publicly told Runaway to keep his warped politics in his journal [soylentnews.org], not on the front page.

My only complaint now is the hypocrisy and tolerance of racism, though as you say ef has been gone a while and the few frequent racists around have been toning it down supposedly. Runaway should be banned for racism and terrorist threats, otherwise the supposed doxxing ban should be lifted off aristarchus because runaway's is the more serious threat to free society by promoting political terrorism.
As I say repeatedly, ban both users. They'll come back with new names but at least they will suffer some vanity punishment. This little drama is a microcosm of US and UK politics. Rightwing baddies get a pass or slap on the wrist, leftwing baddies get beaten and murdered. The actions demonstrate the values, and janrinoks repetetive explanations do not change anything, they just make it seem like no big deal. Which fair enough it is not a big deal, tiny website with small readership, who really cares? Sad to see such apathy and acceptance of political and social terrorizing #NotHyperbole

I have raised it with my local police, because we have different laws here and I socialise with them fairly often, and they asked 'is it illegal?". Well, is it?

I only stepped into the role in the middle of last year; before that it was Bytram and earlier still it was TMB. I don't think any of us have abrogated our responsibilities.
The problem is that if we take temporary banning action we get accused of censorship or preventing freedom of speech, and if we take the opposite then we are accused of abrogating our responsibilities. And we get accused of both things by the same ACs - you want to pick and choose who can comment and who cannot. You are picking on a specific person for the point of view that he holds. Why do you even bother to read what he writes? I don't agree with him nor with you.
There will be NO code of conduct because people will simply try to find loopholes in it and then say that we can do nothing because it isn't in the CoC. Bytram stated the main rule - Don't be a dick. We are here to have discussions. Not to verbally assault specific individuals who might not share your point of view. We encourage robust arguments and debate, but that doesn't mean that you should direct your insults personally. If you do not like having discussions then you are in the wrong place.
NCommander invited people to volunteer to lead the team in December - I am prepared to bet that you did not submit a bid. I did. I stated that I was not the best person for the job, I do not have the technical skills required in all the areas of support that require people, but I would rather try to keep the site alive than see it disappear. What are you prepared to do to support the site?

Only 1 user has been banned, and that was for unacceptable behaviour in our community i.e. doxing. It doesn't matter where the information comes from, doxing a member of our own community is simply unacceptable.
ACs post on the front pages and in the journals. That hardly amounts to a ban when ACs are still free to post. Remember that being an AC is a choice that you have made.
You have freedom of speech - you are exercising it now. You could have an account and still exercise your freedom of speech as an AC. Your choice again.
As a website we are free to impose whatever rules the community wishes. They do not want unaccountable ACs on the front page stories. We asked the community, listened to their replies and then acted upon them. You can't get any more democratic than that.

As for democratic, I read the threads and there was no democracy, just a variety of stances that you decided was enough to make a decision. As long as you keep lying like this no one will trust you. You should have stuck to "STEM article discussions" back when ethanolpuked was busy spamming racist slurs on every story, but at this point your reputation speaks for itself. At least you've toned down some of your false accusations so there is that /shrug
TMB was right that him leaving would lead to censorship. Not that I mind, it just needs to be paired with actual rules of conduct and enforced. You can't declare something wrong after the fact and expect people to then trust your leadership.

Then there is the fact that we have someone actually posting on SoylentNews, and SOYLENTNEWS IS ARISTARCHUS!!! So the odds are now 99.9% I honestly do not know how janrinok can live with this. Every account is treated in exactly the same way.
If the account breaks the rules then they receive a warning - everyone makes a mistake now and then. If they continue to break the rules on a regular basis they will be given a temporary ban, and bans grow each time they are applied. If the behaviour is continued still further then the account could be banned permanently. As far as I am aware, this has only happened in once during our 9 years of operation.
Sock puppets are specifically forbidden. They can be disabled immediately - usually the user still gets to keep one account which is sufficient for most purposes, at our discretion.

I have now had some time to research your claims further.
You have never adversely moderated any posts by Ethanol-fueled when he posted any of his racist comments, nor did you make any critical replies. Likewise you did nothing when he made his antisemitic claims.
I have looked at many other racist and antisemitic comments by a variety of people and your response to them is noticeable by its absence.
You do not stand against racism or antisemitism - you are simply targeting a specific individual. Furthermore, you do not attack his arguments but his character, or you make wild and unsubstantiated accusations about him. That is the perfect example of a personal attack - which is not what this site is for. It is also why you are stuck trying to create discussions in an out-of-date poll.
But it appears that you are incapable of winning an argument by debate alone so you have to resort to tactics that you hope will win you support. I detest all of the comments that we are discussing and neither I nor the site support them. But demanding that we remove the right to freedom of expression from one specific community member for comments that are made by many different commentators is unacceptable. You have provided no convincing argument that we should consider such action against a single individual. Unless what you are suggesting is that we do the same for anyone making racist or antisemitic statements - but of course you would then claim that that is censorship by a right-wing fascist site, wouldn't you?.

Lets look at the last 3 days shall we. 8th Feb - 81% (out of 130 comments) came from the front page, 9th Feb - 94% (out of 191 comments) came from the front page, and on 10th Feb, 58% (out of 176 comments) came from the front page. The comment counts are slowly climbing, month on month, not falling. We are still getting new members from time-to-time, and they are posting.
If we look at comment content - most of the comments in the journals are from AC making sarcastic remarks, attacking other community members, or complaining about how they cannot do something because they are AC!
If you want any more figures I am sure that you can count them yourself.
Only 1 person has been permanently banned. One account is on a temporary ban for moderation abuse. EF is NOT banned - although I think he might be a little bit preoccupied elsewhere at present.

Good luck with new members, eventually they see the racism that never gets down modded now that so few non-racists remain and will likely bail. The next financial crisis is going to be when Dead Internet Theory goes from "conspiracy theory" to impacting billion dollar company financial reports to "Ah, we knew that was true all along". Note that addictive things usually have a power law distribution so its no surprise that traffic is at "normal levels" on those sites yet 2/3 of the population don't use them at all.
See also alcohol where like 5% of the population drinks about 95% of the booze (made up numbers / probably not far off)
Went thru a "big number" a couple years ago for high school reunion where some clown decided to organize a reunion on Facebook and this roughly matches my experiences, probably 2/3 of my class has an account, of which 90% are essentially unused now, yet there's always that idiot out there who still shitposts a picture of every single meal he eats in 2023 or does the "atheist prayer" of ranting "orange man bad" cringe-ily in 2023 as if anyone sane cares about their prayers.
