    Only one, but it takes a very long time, and it really has to want to change.

    It can begin very, very early, and become a life of torment, resentment and isolation. Seems like if one were also afflicted with aggressiveness and high intelligence, that would be how James Bond villains are made.

    Then, look up antonyms at Merriam-Webster [merriam-webster.com]; hits home, but they missed "doormat." They missed "empathetic," too, but that's a little too Deanna Troi (ST:TNG).

    Finally, an instruction manual: The Survival Guide for Living With a Narcissist [psychologytoday.com]. That wasn't much encouragement.
