New Futurama episodes are hitting Hulu in July:

One of the greatest cartoons of the modern era is making a return after a 10-year layoff, and you won't have to wait long to start enjoying brand new episodes. The first new episode of season eight will premiere on Hulu on July 24, with subsequent episodes to follow on Mondays.

Hulu ordered a 20-episode run of Futurama in February of last year that will see much of the original show's voice actors and crew return, including executive producers Matt Groening (The Simpsons) and David X. Cohen (Beavis and Butt-Head). Billy West, Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman are all back, as is John DiMaggio who voices Bender.

Futurama premiered on Fox in the spring of 1999 and ran on the network for five seasons before getting canceled. The show would return in 2010 for a two season run on Comedy Central, with the final episode of that deal airing on September 4, 2013. The order with Hulu will mark the program's third platform, or fourth if you count the direct to DVD movies.

Season eight will initially consist of 10 episodes. It is unclear if the remaining 10 episodes from the original order will arrive as a second half of season eight or a new season entirely.

According to Hulu's description, new viewers will be able to pick up the series from here while Futurama diehards will be rewarded with payoffs to longstanding mysteries. Highlights are said to include developments in the relationship of Fry and Leela, the contents of Nibbler's litter box, the whereabouts of Kif and Amy's tadpoles, and the history of evil Robot Santa.

... we'll try to be less funny this time, so we don't get canceled.

Good news everyone indeed. I think this might be the only thing TV (or torrent) I am looking forward to all year. I guess they just are not allowed to be funnier then The Simpsons, that gets people in trouble. To bad that won't be very hard since that stopped being funny eons ago. Yet it just continues ...

Wasn't this a reoccurring theme in the movies and multiple episodes? It's sort of a cornerstone of the entire show how Fry tries to show his love for Leela. The last episode was all about it, or the previously last episode with the time loop (i'm more interested in seeing how the Professor will break them out of it). In some regard it is one of the things that makes it an interesting adult cartoon comedy without being sexually gratuitous. It's a sci-fi-comedy-love-story in that regard.

    > the contents of Nibbler's litter box
Isn't it darkmatter? In perfect spherical form. It powers the ship. It was shown in season 1 I think. They filled a planet with their poop. Is there more? What the box is made of to contain said Dark Matter etc.

    > the whereabouts of Kif and Amy's tadpoles
Oh this could be interesting! Looking forward to that one. There was so many of them to. Amy's parents will be delighted ...

    >... and the history of evil Robot Santa.
There are already at least two episodes (the holiday special & a tale of two santas) so what is left to explain? Are they going to retcon all the obviously gay elfs? Or is it about how he became evil or got unimaginable high standards. After all he doesn't judge everyone. Dr Zoidy was a good boy according to Santa. As I recall it.

If anything I hope for more Anthology of Interest episodes, I like those. Also if anything needs explaining it's my favorite episode -- The Farnsworth Parabox. How are things in the other universe? I guess it might be time to rewatch all the episodes before the new seasons starts. It's not like there is anything better to watch anyway.

I don't know why I always forget that part but the professor fixes everything at the end of the episode. I think he doesn't, I go to check the episode and he does it. Of cause he does -- he is the Professor!

What's really sad is that this would deserve a "sadly true" mod, if there was one.

Am I getting old or are things that are supposed to be funny simply no longer funny? What doubles as humor these days is thinly veiled references to some pieces of zeitgeist memes.

At some point, the only thing that remains as being funny is the absurdity of the dystopia you suddenly realize that you inhabit.
