The problem is not that people have different opinions, it's that there's no willingness to show any respect to those who have a different opinion. Instead of respectful dialogue, everyone just insults each other -- as you just did right there. Trading insults is not communication. It can be fun and amusing, but it's not communication. Some opinions do not deserve respect. Mostly the irrational ones.
I'm certainly capable of showing respect for opinions that are cogent, well argued, and rational, and preferably evidence-based, even if I happen to believe they are incorrect.
