ACs are valuable, but the community does need moderating beyond community mod points. The worst stuff should be hidden behind a link, possibly even a delayed request that will email the comment content. Logged in users should also not have an AC option, and if so then the comment not permanently tied to the user id. Also a feature for reporting and transparency is needed so the community can at least offer opinions on suspect content. This will lead to hurt feelings, primarily from the worst sorts that want to spread their hate, but that is the price of civilized discourse.
