An update: There has been serious conversations in back channels relating to ongoing SN operations from outside parties who are not current SN staff. It is possible the shutdown will be averted, but at this point, it will require signing a contract with the PBC to, at minimum, handle ongoing IT and support for the servers for a period of time, and to finish migration to deployment automation services.
Past that, a more serious discussion on how to migrate off rehash would have be worked out, although this doesn't need to be set in stone to stop dissolution.
I don't know if this will actually come through, and I don't want to build hope if there isn't any, but I would prefer an option that allows SN to continue.

Oh look, another abusive spam mod! Looks like janrinok and staff are REALLY ok with abusing the system based on their preferential opinions, but then turn around and make snide remarks about how aristarchus calling for a ban on alt-right trolls. The hypocrisy continues unabated and is proving the alt-right bias true. Not gonna search it out, but janrinok replied to some spam complaint with the dictionary definition of unwanted or repetitive electronic messages. So the free speech absolutism is now "what staff and people on IRC group think is wrong."
I honestly did not expect the comolete abandonment of supposed libertarian free speech ideals, but then again most libertarians are just embarassed to call themselves Republican. In typical fashion they then claim to support free speech, but apparently only as long as that speech is racist. Other speech they don't like is O B V I O U S L Y spam, not even just offtopic or flamebait. At least with allowing racism to be spam modded it was a clear rule and not arbitrarily decided by the staff's social clique.

The parent was posted by Azuma Hazuki 2.0 [soylentnews.org], the operator of an account created for the purpose of harassing Azuma Hazuki. There's a reason the parent AC doesn't want to say what their previous account was, because it would shed light on their motives.
Let's review what happened:
1) They spam modded people like khallow for expressing political opinions they found disagreeable, such as the nature of what happened on January 6, when rioters illegally entered the US Capitol. Users like khallow disputed that it actually constituted an insurrection. Azuma Hazuki 2.0 spam modded users like khallow for this.
2) Despite warnings from the admins, Azuma Hazuki 2.0 continued to use the spam mod to suppress political speech they disagreed with. As a result, the admins mod-banned the Azuma Hazuki 2.0 account.
3) Upon receiving the mod ban, Azuma Hazuki 2.0 posted a journal [soylentnews.org] to complain about the admins.
4) In this journal, Azuma Hazuki 2.0 was criticized for using an account created to harass Azuma Hazuki. In the comments, Azuma Hazuki reiterated that she was not okay with the Azuma Hazuki 2.0 account being used. In response, Azuma Hazuki 2.0 rage quitted SN, at least in terms of using an account to post.
5) After rage quitting, Azuma Hazuki 2.0 has been posting AC comments to continue whining about the editors and the use of the spam mod. It's basically a massive temper tantrum because the admins said that Azuma Hazuki 2.0 wasn't allowed to spam mod people to silence their political opinion. For that reason, Azuma Hazuki 2.0 has decided to try to disrupt the site by posting spam that's filled with half-truths and misleading content.
I don't believe that the parent comment was posted by aristarchus. There is a second individual who is actively intending to disrupt the site and throw a temper tantrum for over a year now. That individual was behind the Azuma Hazuki 2.0 account, which appears to now be closed. Anytime they see aristarchus get spam modded, they chime in with petulant comments of their own because they still can't accept that they weren't allowed to use the spam mod to silence political opinions they disagreed with.
I am not, nor have I ever been a staff member. I do spam mod comments posted by aristarchus or those that sufficiently emulate his comments in style and substance. I am posting this because I want people to know what is going on and who is continuing to attack SN. I want aristarchus and Azuma Hazuki 2.0 to leave, and I want this site to get back to discussing science and technology without constant disruption.
