Machine operating system, I guess a form of DOS, but not MS-DOS.
From the article, it shows: 10s PRINT "*" I remember the print function being "P." to save on memory space. The memory is going, but i'm pretty clear on that.....

My first computer was an Atari 800, it's not much of an OS, but I used the BASIC cartridge quite a bit - that included ability to load, run and save programs to/from cassette tape and floppy disk. Even when I did (minimal) assembly programming work on the machine, it was through the BASIC interpreter.
