I thought it this would be fun everybody. I thought it might be interesting to compare desktop screenshots and see what other SoylentNews user interfaces look like. Tiling window manager or stacking? Desktop environment or not? Are you minimalist? What operating systems are you using?
What about your phone/tablet/phablet?

running ubuntu (no time for distro hopping anymore) with lxde.
Does not using Ubuntu imply distro hopping? ;)

it implies, i probably would be spending a lot of time trying arch, maybe slackware, maybe even lfs.....
if there is a heaven, you'll find me sitting in front of a mega-computer with 4 monitors, trying them out, and even the bsd's.
here on earth, there just isn't time.

Ok, but it sort of sounded like other distributions are for tinkering and playing with, while Ubuntu is what you use if you need to get work done, which I don't think is necessarily true. I don't know, I feel like I hear that a bit, "I used to play around with Linux distros, but then I just had to get things done so I use Ubuntu". No problem, but there are many distributions where one could just install the base set of programs needed to get-work-done™ and quit tinkering with the system. Unless you choose the LTS version, Ubuntu is actually quite fast moving. Anyway, not saying you meant any of that, just thinking aloud.

No... i installed ubuntu as my main desktop because it is what i'm used to (went from macmillan redhat 5.2(ish) to redhat 6 to debian, mandrake, etc.)
Then found Ubuntu (before it became the 'evil' desktop). Put it as my main work desktop while i dabbled.
Now, i just use it because there is no time for dabbling again. I have a netbook with Arch installed, but hate the small keyboard.
No time, too many distros to try.

IMHO - Ubuntu appeals MAINLY to those who fit one or more:
A: Don't really understand Linux, and Ubuntu "just works".
B: Need a long term supported OS, without the cost of Redhat support.
C: Are satisfied with "good enough".
There are probably as many reasons for sticking to Ubuntu, as there are Ubuntu users. I abandoned Ubuntu for almost the same reasons that I abandoned Gnome. I didn't like the road they were on, and I certainly didn't like the "my way or the highway" attitude. Linux users have always been a terribly independent bunch, so many of us just don't fit into the Ubuntu crowd. Can't call them sheeples, exactly, because they have thrown off the reign of Microsoft, but they don't value their independence as much as some of us do.
