I thought it this would be fun everybody. I thought it might be interesting to compare desktop screenshots and see what other SoylentNews user interfaces look like. Tiling window manager or stacking? Desktop environment or not? Are you minimalist? What operating systems are you using?
What about your phone/tablet/phablet?

My desktop is whatever background-image the script pulled when starting X (well - currently from a list of one image, one of the stock debian images since about a decade ago).
I never really got this whole idea about icons so I have a setup without any icons, any software I use often is accessible via hotkey (Alt+F5 for urxvt for instance) or possible to pull up in text-menus (Altgr+F8, or rightclick) but the majority of the software is simply launched by typing it's name and parameters into an open terminal..
Somehow I find it a lot faster to just hit [Alt+F5] o p e r a [enter] [^D] than having to reach for the mouse, send everything to the background, drag the pointer over and click.. and that is for a program I open often, I dread to think about how it would be for the stuff I rarely open
