I thought it this would be fun everybody. I thought it might be interesting to compare desktop screenshots and see what other SoylentNews user interfaces look like. Tiling window manager or stacking? Desktop environment or not? Are you minimalist? What operating systems are you using?

What about your phone/tablet/phablet?

I'll start: Desktop and Cellular Phone.

I'm running Slackware64 14.1, but I use Window Maker [windowmaker.org], and have done since about 2001 or 2002 when AfterStep went totally mental (and a bit unstable) with ludicrous superfluous eye-candy.

Over the years I have suffered various versions of Windows, GNOME and CDE on Solaris, Ubuntu (whatever Fischer-Price abomination that has these days), KDE (*gag*)... You name it.

The best "desktops" - whether that's just a window manager or a full-blown environment are simple, reliable, and get out of your way when you've got things to get done.

And don't get me started on the lack of xterm on most modern distros... They expect you to use some broken, slow, under-featured eye-candy desktop-integrated terminal, if at all.

    Now get off my lawn.
