Ars reports on the most recent blogger death in Bangladesh:

Assailants with cleavers and machetes on Tuesday killed another blogger in Bangladesh, the third blogger in that country murdered in as many months, the Committee to Protect Journalists said. Another blogger killed in Bangladesh earlier this year used Facebook as his medium, the committee said.

The committee said that Ananta Bijoy Das, who wrote about science and railed against religious fundamentalism, was killed Tuesday by four masked men in the northeastern city of Sylhet in broad daylight.

The death of Das brings to at least 20 the number of writers murdered globally this year, according to CPJ statistics. Bangladesh is ranked 13th globally with at least 16 killed since 1992.

An American blogger (of Bangladeshi origin) was an earlier victim this year.

... let's talk about something more serious.

As I see it, any society that cannot tolerate open and honest discussions by people who mean well and intend only to improve society is mortally sick. We're getting there in this country. I hope we don't turn into another Bangladesh or Singapore.

    It's not society per se.

A power group, which finds itself to be founded on religion*, is going straight to establish a reign of terror and submission, showing off their willingness to kill those with opposing views. So that the miserable that want to be "parto of a greater thing" will join them, and most of the others will be reduced to a complicit silence. We've seen it countless times before.

    * regiligion is not bad in itself, and not bound to become bad. But it is a great foundation for those who want to use it in this way.

Seems like you aren't much of a student of human psychology. Every single one of the worst most violent and destructive ideologies in the world have all meant well and only intended to improve society. Ask the white power people, they will tell you society will be better off without the mud people. Ask any anti-gay campaigner, they will tell you teh gays are a corrupting influence on society and think of the children!

Shame on you for trying to equate the shunning of the odious with murder. Freedom of speech has never meant freedom from consequences.
