Amsterdam had social media in 1994, back before normal people in most places even knew the Internet existed. It grew to 400,000 users before being privatized and thus killed. Now there is an effort to recover and preserve it.

    The tablet computer was probably invented in the 1960s, by Arthur C. Clarke (also the inventor of the geosynchronous satellite). It make an appearance in his movie "2001: A Space Odyssey".

    Star Trek:TOS premiered in 1966. They had handheld thingies before the 1968 release of Kubrick's movie.
