If it's truly made of steel and built with longevity in mind (and damn the price) then I don't see why it can't be incredibly durable. We can make things that last. A well made firearm for example can last 100 years with regular maintenance; and they undergo far more stress than a keyboard. Electronics don't last very long because they're made as cheaply as possible with the assumption that they'll be obsolete before they'll wear out. What's the point of making a laptop that'll last 50 years if it'll be useless in 10? But a keyboard could be made like a gun. I bet we'll still be using keyboards in 50 years. There's probably a demand for one that'll last that long. Look at the IBM Model M which is still cherished, duplicated, replicated, and imitated. Some are older than I am and still work.

Nope. Fifty years from now, people will be going "what the fuck is usb?" Besides, we'll be too busy with the class wars to be worried about typing fast on a sturdy keyboard.

I sincerely hope USB will not go away. only yesterday my son decided to chew on a USB plug, and bent it out of shape. Still, it works perfectly fine after bending back. Maybe HDMIs are somewhere close in terms of robusteness, but I'm not aware of other connectors in the same class...
