A guy i know makes socks geared towards bicyclers (geared! get it?). His business is Sneaky Socks.

He was telling us about making socks (more interesting than you'd think) and he says it's hard to produce socks like China at their price because they have ENTIRE CITIES based on making things for your body:
Sock city: an entire city based on the production (and support) of socks.
They also have entire cities doing sweaters, shirts, pants, etc.

Imagine trying to compete with that.

He also says that they use cheap wool and nylon and the fibers are run between ropes drenched with kerosene in order to keep the 'fuzzing' down: better socks are made with better fibers and this is not needed.

It was, really, more interesting than i thought.

Two quick searches led me to these:

The facts that he bases his analysis on are false.

FT-Op-Ed: The U.S. and China slapped tariffs equally on $34 billion worth of goods. Another $16 billion is coming later this month.

Except that's not true. The new incoming tarrifs are an order of magnitude higher. Trump Just Announced Tariffs on $200 Billion More Chinese Goods. Here's What's Different About This Round [fortune.com]

So in this case "the media" (namely, this author) drastically under-inflated the risks. By $184 BILLION!

You keep confusing things that have actually happened with things that have really happened. Of the massive tariffs Trump said he would do originally he went with the 34 billion and now the 16 billion to add additional pressure.

President Trump is already thinking about

There is a huge difference between what Trump has said and what Trump actually does.

            Things Trump has not done
            1. Rounded up Jews or Muslims to cull ala holocaust
            2. Took us into another war
            3. Failed to achieve the 2% growth
            etc etc

                1. Temp holds on people from specific countries is normal procedure, Obama even did it. The camps on the border already existed and have been in use since Bush based on a law passed by Clinton and not shut down by Obama.
                2. Thank Obama for Yemen. Although I am sad that we are continuing that warmongers policies I said new wars.
                3. Yes, and the media said greater than two was impossible. Yet he has done it.

Yes, ignore the direct quote of him promising 4. And also ignore the fact that greater than 2 was regularly achieved under Obama. And, also ignore the other fact that he didn't acheive greater than 2, he achieved exactly 2. [tradingeconomics.com]

Very sad what happened to my Navy SEAL, William Owen. Otherwise known as Ryan Owen. This was a mission that was started before I got here. This was something they wanted to do. They came to see me, they told me what they wanted to do, the Generals, who are very respected -- my Generals are most respected we’ve had in many decades, I believe. And they lost Ryan. Terrible news for his father. What’s worse? There’s nothing worse. But again, this was something that they were looking at for a long time. And frankly, Ryan knew what he was signing up for. He knew.

Big war in Yemen, for us it's not so big. We lost one guy, we lost Ryan (RIP!!!!). But we captured a Terabyte of cyber. A tremendous amount of cyber. If you had $10 billion like I do -- actually I have more than $10 billion, I'm very very rich -- if you had a piece of cyber for every penny of that, you'd have a Terabyte. It's a million million pieces of cyber. It's A LOT. But it didn't cost us $10 billion. Or even $1 billion. It cost us one guy. It's considered a very successful mission.

And Saudi Arabia is doing so much in Yemen. Fighting very hard to protect themselves from Iran, who sent a ballistic missile from Yemen into Riyadh, into the capital of Saudi Arabia -- one of the capitals. And they're protecting themselves from the terrible Houthis. Which they've been doing since 2015 (Obama). And unlike VERY UNGRATEFUL NATO they're paying their own way, that's so important. I made a tremendous deal, they're buying some terrific weapons from us. I got them a great price on those, big discount. Our factories are very busy. JOBS. Because of me. And Iran is going nuclear, as everybody knows. So possibly Saudi Arabia will need a nuclear arsenal. And we can help them with that. We have entire cities based on the production and support of nuclear weapons. Oak Ridge, Tennessee -- otherwise known as Atomic City. Los Alamos. And possibly some others that are secret. The underground cities that we keep off the maps. Very special!
