The Liberal Elites were so freaked out about Joe Biden openly bragging about bribing the Ukrainian president to stop a prosecutor from doing his job, that they tried to use that to impeach Trump with! How insane is that? They impeached Trump for trying to investigate Biden for bragging about an obvious case of corruption — and the progressives were so afraid of their own shadows that they went along with it! Happily! AOC and the squad were doing backflips while being played for suckers! They happily gave up their golden opportunity to remove their biggest obstacle to getting a progressive in the White House. For what? To make Trump look kinda bad? Not even real bad. Just KINDA BAD!??!...
... there is no specific crime mentioned in the impeachment, because as the witnesses stated, there was no actual statement from Trump asking for a quid pro quo from Zelensky, or anyone else. They impeached him on the idea that “mind reading” is now an acceptable prosecutorial protocol. They claim that even though Trump did not explicitly say he wanted Biden investigated in return for aid, that “they know” that the Ukrainian leaders were able to “read his mind” and get that message from him....

The one for whom I feel most sorry is Pelosi.
I mean, the old mummy had it coming, but aside from that: she clearly didn't want to impeach Trump. She dragged her feet at every opportunity, tried to brush off the yelping pack whenever she could, but finally got cornered into an impeachment that she must have known would never result in a removal from office, would strengthen the president politically, and leave the democrats looking angry and impotent - never a good combination.
Oh well, being used as a handy tool is something to which she's probably pretty accustomed right now.

Dressing something up in Latin, calling it "quid pro quo", doesn't make it a crime. You can do "quid pro quo" just like you can do shooting, driving, fishing, and fucking. All of those can be legal or illegal according to circumstances.
Presidential actions do not become criminal just because they happen to personally benefit the president. There would have to be some significant way that the action knowingly harms the USA.
Prosecuting the Biden family is unlikely to benefit the president. If anything, as we've seen, it looks bad! At the time of the phone call, it was far from obvious that Biden would be the nominee. The nominee is going to lose in any case, so none of this matters anyway. There is more than enough dirt on all of them already. The more-electable democrats decided to wait for 2024 instead of facing an incumbent with a terrific economy.
Ethically and morally, Trump has a duty to make sure that criminals like the Biden family are prosecuted. Awkwardness is no excuse. Ethically and morally, Trump has a duty to pressure foreign leaders ("quid pro quo" if you like) into assisting our law enforcement efforts. He is the head of state, and thus our top-ranked diplomat. He is supposed to get involved.
So if there was no actual statement from Trump asking for a quid pro quo from Zelensky, that could be a problem. Trump is supposed to ask for a quid pro quo. A bit of laziness doesn't rise to "high crimes and misdemeanors" however, so that's tolerable.

Beyond does just look at the demographic issues. Biden attracts: old, conservative, black (excluding young - who also favor Sanders). Sanders attracts pretty much everybody else. It may be the case that the old and conservative are the ones voting in primaries, but if that's his base, it's going to be a landslide in November. And while I do think the old conservative types might be willing to take one for the team, there are a whole bunch of Sanders-or-bust types out there.
Literally seems like the DNC has decided that Trump > Sanders. Makes you realize that both camps really are just corporate fronts.

Bernie is neither a communist nor a socialist, no matter how he brands himself. He's a social democrat [qz.com] who wants to reform capitalism rather than replace it. If Bernie brands himself a socialist, it's probably embracing the title that has been repeatedly misused in this country for decades [nytimes.com]. Bernie's policies would be a step toward the Nordic model [wikipedia.org] rather than an actual implementation of socialism. Describing Bernie as a communist indicates an ignorance of what communism actually is. The terms communism and socialism are used incorrectly in this country because they're effective at stoking fear from the Cold War era. Socialists always want to pick Denmark or Norway. First of all, they aren't very socialist. Second of all, they are kind of poor -- no not like South Sudan is, but poor. Third of all, they have unusual circumstances like a bunch of petroleum and fishing rights supporting a tiny population.
Pick a random country with those ideas, and it looks like shit. Try most of South America for example. Compare the per-person purchasing power parity against that of the USA and see.
Now, you think the USA will end up like Denmark or Norway? Why? Why not like Argentina, Brazil, or much worse? In terms of population and size and resources, the USA sort of resembles Brazil. He's referencing Brazilian President 'Lula.' [wikipedia.org] Brazil did go socialist for over a decade. Their country rapidly deteriorated during this time even as Lula moved somewhat more moderate in his views. Like all socialist idealists, his presidency was also plagued with immense corruption and he himself ended up with the distinction of being the first president ever arrested for corruption.
The only reason Brazil isn't on the list as just another failed example of socialism is because the Brazilian people reacted a bit faster than most. Lula is precisely what set the stage for the emergence of Bolsonaro.

Bernie is a socialist to all intents and purposes. That he's hobbled by a nation that doesn't particularly care for it, and consequently rebrands himself as a social democrat, doesn't really cut much ice.

A big part of the reason I will vote Sanders if he wins (and probably Trump if he does not) is because he stands 0 chance of getting any of his more extreme ideas passed. Checks and balances - they actually work when there's ideological diversity in congress. I don't agree with Sanders on much of anything anymore, but I think he's honest and well intentioned - even if misguided.
There's also another reason. If Sanders is elected, perhaps even if he just wins the DNC nomination - it's going to cause the DNC to collapse. The DNC is a corporate entity that runs on a charade of liberalism. An actual liberal getting elected would split it hard as the establishment types and the money that controls them would never accept a Sanders. You'll end up with, at the minimum, a corporate DNC, and a liberal DNC. I think this would open the door to proportional representation. Proportional representation in countries that previously had first past the post tends to be immediately preceded by the emergence of multiple powerful parties. And rather than causing the conservative side to rally around republicans, I think the DNC fracturing would also create an opportunity for conservative groups to make a run of it on their own. How absurd is it that evangelicals and libertarians are shoved into the same self contradictory party?

He's not wild about the 1st amendment, grudging put up with the 2nd in his early career, but jettisoned that long ago, and has been pretty big on ditching the 4th.

Good comment. It's why I don't care so much about "How will you pay for Plan 9?" questions. Because Bernie's policy priorities would be opposed by a fair number of Democrats in Congress, might not make it past a filibuster threshold, etc. When you vote for Bernie Sanders, you are mainly voting for a governing philosophy. The vetoes and bureaucratic shuffling might be more significant than the bills he signs. Ideally, legislation will involve compromises to get at least a handful from the other party on board. Of course, bipartisanship is not always great, since it has given us stuff like FOSTA/SESTA. A more bitterly divided Congress would tank more bad bills.
I'm not sure about how a collapse would go. I think Sanders supporters would be frenzied by Biden getting the nomination, especially if any evidence of funny business leaks out. Sanders could be grudgingly accepted by the DNC as the nominee since there are not enough AOCs in Congress to get his legislative priorities passed intact even if he wins. Either candidate losing to Trump in November could trigger a collapse, since any pretense of cooperation would fly out the window.
The two party system is strong and fractures will probably be repaired. If a purged Democratic Party or the Green Party can't win nationally against the Republicans, the fractured groups will re-coalesce and the centrist/corporate types will probably take the lead again.
