According to the front page we're just $782.06 from our Base Goal of $3500.00. We can do this!
These are undoubtedly strange and often difficult times for just about everyone. That's all the more reason we as a community should carry on carrying on, with sharing our tech knowledge, experiences and jokes of varying and disputed quality. Let's keep this place going together! :D

The problem was the admin was an alt-right dbag enabling the shittiest of the community members, and now we've finally gotten to the supposed "NEVER GONNA HAPPEN" removal of AC comments on most of the site. ACs should remain, but staff offered no real solutions for the spam and filth, put all the responsibility on the community, did nothing about sock puppets for a ling time, and have greenlighted targeted abuse. Too little too late, no coder around now, so site is stuck on 10k sock puppets for a few thousand real users and only a few hundred maybe still active. It was a good idea but SN staff realized the need for real moderators too late. Only recently, with so many users now gone, have staff decided to try out the solution they swore would never happen.
Such confidence, much wow. At least the rabid rightwingers are finally getting some disdain from fatphil and janrinok, but again too late to shift the perception of SN as an alt-right club. Ari tried to warn you all, got targeted by the old admin with a secret modban only recently removed when some staffer actually investigated and had no idea how it happened. Makes you wonder how many of ari's claims have merit, and whether he even sock puppeted before the ban. Can't forget AthaniusKitcher(sp?) who created a journal critical of dbag admin, saw it show up on their profile, then it disappeared. Maybe an accident, but too much fuckery and admin abuse to feel comfortable writing it off. Woops, can't forget the weird lost 3 months from the database somehow not fixable from any backup? Too. Much. Fuckery.
No transparency + abusive (mostly ex)staff = no trust
If the alt-right fake news problem was taken seriously by creating real moderators that could scrub garbage, with links to the removed content (for transparency and trust), then maybe I'd have considered this site worth funding. Shit, just the COVID misinformation probably led to the death of at least one reader! That is enough ranting, best of luck.
