Biden calls pandemic “over” despite pathetic booster rates and new variants
"The pandemic is over," President Joe Biden said matter-of-factly in a 60 Minutes interview that aired Sunday night. The impromptu comment immediately drew headlines, as well as criticism from health experts. It also likely raised the anxiety levels of administration officials, who have been striving to promote booster uptake this fall. Some officials described the president's comment as surprising.
“We still have a problem with COVID. We’re still doing a lot of work on it," Biden immediately noted in the interview. "But the pandemic is over. If you notice, no one’s wearing masks," he said, referencing the crowds at the auto show in Detroit, where he made the comments. "Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And, so I think it’s changing and I think this is a perfect example of it.”
Though many in the public health community will argue that the pandemic is objectively not over, the president's remarks reflect the country's relationship status with the pandemic, which is a resounding: "It's complicated."

Sez twice-struck him. And Mrs. Dr. Sleepy. I'm un-vaccinated, and take care of elderly unvaccinated. And I live in a red state. And I see masks all over the place; notably on me. Hospitals and doctor offices still require masks here. I wear one at the market, the bank... and anywhere there are people you'd like to avoid like the plague. Nope, haven't gotten sick, neither has anyone close to me. Okay, one brother got the Wuhan-Flu twice, but he lives in one bluest of blue states, and he's vaccinated.
I'll probably keep wearing it as long as possible, even if I look like the last left-wing wacko still standing... it'll help tell the wokies not to shout at me.

You be you. Nothing wrong with wearing masks, period. I'm sad that this has become a political football, like far too many critically important issues.
COVID-19 is still a thing, and there are still very vulnerable people who can become very ill with it, and maybe die from it. So you're protecting yourself, and others. I know several people who still wear masks, especially when in proximity to others, groups, stores, churches, schools, work, etc.
I haven't worn one in a couple of weeks, but I keep one with me, sometimes under my chin for quick placement if I feel the need. Plus I had COVID recently so I'm still immune, per doctors, but I could be a carrier (I think, maybe, so safe is the better way to go). At some point my immunity will abate and I might get a booster shot.
