Journal by turgid

The National Conservatives had a rally in London this week. I wanted to write something, but the Guardian summary will suffice.

It's barely disguised now.

From the fine article:

Perhaps the speech most reported on was by the Tory backbencher Miriam Cates, who part-channelled Viktor Orbán and Giorgia Meloni in describing low birthrates as an existential crisis for the west. The populist leaders of Hungary and Italy are explicit in wanting more domestic-born children as against immigrants, a point Cates did not make, although it was arguably implicit. More striking still was her argument that the lack of babies was down to “cultural Marxism that is systematically destroying our children’s souls”.

This was also the conference where Jacob Rees-Mogg (a member of the current UK government) spoke and admitted that recent changes to electoral law in England and Wales were an attempt at gerrymandering, to disenfranchise people who might vote for parties other than his, but that it had backfired. The Conservatives appear to have disenfranchised many of their own voters.

It's in plain sight now. These are National Conservatives, the NatCs.

There is not much more to be said.

Update: Judging by the discourse below, there certainly is more to be said. Once again I will not say it myself. Instead I'll post a link to SNP MP Mhairi Black's f-word speech given to Parliament last year.

I'm sure many of the pro-limited-government, anti-corporatist speakers at these conferences would agree.

There's a collection of videos from these events here: https://youtube.com/@NationalConservatism/videos [youtube.com]

Since there's nothing from turgid, my criticism (from scanning the video titles) would be that religion and politics should be separate. That is, after all, a common centrist and economic right wing criticism of the left. That their beliefs constitute a gnostic religion. I think this is important enough to expand a bit for those who do not see the oblique intent.

Some say that babies born in a particular country excel babies born in other countries. This is a lie.

Some say that babies born with a particular ethnic heritage excel babies born in others. This is a lie.

Some say that babies born with a particular economic circumstance excel babies born in others. This is a lie.

The truth is that no one is "good" but God. The rest of us all do the best we can with the hand we are dealt, but we are better off if we follow some commonly accepted commandments.

Most people have sense enough to recognize good when they see it. Nobody has a monopoly on nor an infallible propensity for "good".

The obvious rebuttal is infrastructure. "Excel" doesn't mean "good". It means "To do or be better than; surpass." I propose that well-designed infrastructure can indeed make us better people surpassing in a very real sense who we would be without it. The key example here from your point of view is religious infrastructure. Do you think we would be better people, for example, if the teachings of Jesus Christ had disappeared completely a couple millennia ago? How could someone be saved without that knowledge or the living examples of fellow Christians?

For those who aren't so religious, there are many examples such as public sanitation that makes us healthier, education and economic systems that allows us all greater opportunities, legal systems that help imperfectly to make the world a fairer place for the weak, and communication systems that allow us to talk in real time over vast distances and see things that we wouldn't otherwise ever see.

It is in these ways that we can excel.

Is there any simple explanation that Khallow cannot misconstrue?

Let me try once more to be lucid.

Those who would promote the false and divisive teachings of nationalism, racism and economic entitlement inevitably reveal themselves and their agendas by attempting to seduce you into believing there is some inherent superiority of one sort of human over another. This is how you can recognize them and haply avoid the mayhem they aim to incite. Ignore this at your peril.

...and Jesus (a Jew) tried to make it clear in that scripture that only God was "good", and that the rest of us can only assess our "goodness" by our adherence to the commandments - so Jews were not inherently superior.

Funny how you evade responsibility for supporting the GOP, and now that the "bad guy" label is impossible to argue with you're switching to fustakrakich's "why care about the baddies?"

I wasn't the one who said "You're not describing people who give the tiniest squirt about being hypocrites." It's not relevant how little those people care about being hypocrites. What's relevant is how everyone else cares about them being hypocrites. Sounds like you care a great deal, and I bet you're in the majority here.

Cuz they're literal Nazis now ya daft punk! If a political party does not kick out members waving Nazi, or the earlier Confederate, flag then the party becomes home to Nazi slavers. You've been expending a lot of effort to stay aligned with them, maybe it is easier to stop defending them and stick to your libertarian ideals?

Nazi slavers? Who are they and who are they enslaving? I think it's interesting how we have all this bombastic language backed by zero proof that there's anything to the accusations. You won't be able to fight real Nazis by being as deluded.

Yes, I do like the idea of the persecutors being armed. It's much easier to mount a legal defense, when forced to defend myself against them. Arm them to the teeth, load them for bear, and be sure that they wear some identifiable insignia. But, as I've already pointed out, don't be surprised that with time and experience, those 'rednecks' carrying weapons mellow out, and stop inciting shit.

Well, yes, as a matter of fact, I do. Of course, there's a glaring problem with you statement. Guns the cops fear? Most of that is bullshit. Real cops don't shy away when a bad guy shows a weapon, unlike the cunts at Uvalde. The cop on the beat doesn't look at the weapon the bad guy has, before deciding whether to beat a hasty retreat, or to press ahead with an arrest. The 'much feared' AR-15 is no more, and no less, dangerous than any semi-auto of similar caliber. The propaganda just keeps on coming. (In the same vein, those "cop killer bullets" were teflon coated - and they didn't penetrate body armor any better or any worse than other bullets. Those bullets DO penetrate windshields better than any other bullets, but they don't penetrate armor.)

Back to whether people I like should be armed or not: HELL YES they should be armed. The constitution wasn't written for people I like. It wasn't written for people I don't like. It was written for ALL AMERICANS. That goes right along with, we have a "bill of rights", not a "bill of needs" or "bill of necessities" or whatever the hell people are talking about when they say "you don't really NEED an AR-15".

Now do you see? I don't want to deprive the Redneck Revenge people of the right to bear arms. Why would you want to deprive me of that right?

Arms race? Lemme think a moment. Those cities and states that outlaw "assault weapons" never outlaw them for cops, do they? How about jurisdictions that outlaw body armor? Are cops included? Do cops have access to full auto weapons? Yes they do, virtually any police department can submit paperwork for such a weapon, but civilians cannot. How about grenades? Don't let their non-technical jargon get in the way - a "flash-bang" is a grenade. I don't know if any police departments have fragmentation grenades, maybe, maybe not, but those concussion grenades are more than enough. How 'bout those armored personnel carriers? Cops can have them - do you think the DoD will sell me one? Probably not, but they literally GIVE THEM to police departments.

Cops are all the time demonstrating "new technology". I watched a video, where the cops can wrap a super-duty zip tie thingy around your tires, and bring you to a screeching halt. They have demonstrated the ability to zap a car electronically, to kill the ignition. They are begging for remote-off switches in newer cars. Basically, everything that a hacker can dream of, the cops want it, and oftentimes get it.

                            Arms race.

This is the United States. The power was supposed to belong to the people.

And, don't forget Mao. Political power grows from the barrel of a gun. Cops have too much power already, and the playing field needs leveling.

Why would you judge people by their race or the color of their skin? That's stupid. All people are created equal. We should judge people by the quality of their character, not by race or skin color.

It's one thing to say that it's a problem if a country has a shrinking population. That's an issue because it probably has a negative impact on the economy. It's reasonable to not want your country's population to shrink.

But why would you care the proportion of white children in your country compared to other races? Why is that even relevant? There's no reason that you should want white children any more or any less than children of any other race. That's asinine.

Daleks believe they are the supreme race of the universe. Your post is effectively using the same logic as if you said that rejecting the Dalek belief that they are the supreme race of the universe is equivalent to saying that Daleks are an inferior race. That's not a reasonable statement, and it's not logical. A person who believes that all races are created equal would also reject the Dalek belief that they are the supreme race of the universe.

By your logic, rejecting one racist ideology means that you must accept the opposite racist ideology. There's literally no room in your illogical view of the world to not be racist.

If we can't replace white people, we at least need to outnumber them, even in their own homes!

Once people become citizens, it's every bit as much their country as it is yours. Absolutely nobody is saying that white people must be outnumbered. They are rejecting the asinine position that it's somehow a problem if white people happened to be outnumbered at some point in the future. The fact that you can't seem to understand this distinction suggests that you are seriously lacking in comprehension skills.

A: You haven't been paying attention, dalek. Martin Luther King's dream died. Today, the vocal black communities don't want equality, they want something they call "equity", and they'll let us know what is equitable.

B: Now, that shrinking population? The United States has spent ~50 years since Roe v Wade, actively killing off black and white Americans, actively reducing the population, while at the same time, the progressive party has been actively encouraging immigration of mostly brown people from around the world.

Tell me again that the replacement conspiracy theory is only a conspiracy theory. We have fallen below replacement level fertility, and the outsiders are racing to the borders to replace us.

Also, tell me, why you must paint the picture in race terms? If the exact same thing happened in Germany, with the progressive government actively reducing the brunette population with blonde headed people from around the world, would you call that racism?

If an empress were killing off the emperor's heirs, so that her own offspring could inherit the empire, would you call that racism?

You're smarter than the average idiot who parrots the mainstream media propaganda. Not everything in life is racist. Greed is greed, with or without racism being involved. Almost everyone in the world wants what US citizens have, and the lib/dem/progressive party wants to help them take it from us. Race hardly matters.

Oh yeah - two parts to my post. Do ya see how the two tie together? Those lib/dem/progressives proclaim themselves to be the champions of the black folk, right? But, those are the very people helping to suppress the fertility of black folk, so they might import more outsiders to replace the black folk.

Progressives champion no one. They'll use you to their advantage, then throw you out with last week's leftovers that are stinking up the fridge.

I checked it using a url scanner. Don't waste your time. It is a Twitter thread by Konstantin Kisin about the convention. After his introduction, he almost immediately makes multiple statements that that are factually incorrect and easily verified as such. It then goes downhill from there as he starts his "analysis." Basically it is the standard right-wing complaints that the wrong kind of immigration, the lack of "babies," and lack of religion are the cause of Britain's ills. Sure he tries to paint it with different colors but that is his underlying argument while throwing mud everywhere all the while.

My preferred one is URLScan.io for general usage. There are others out there for more specific usage but it is probably the current best free one for general usage. For that nitter URL, I loaded it into the scanner, browsed the domain tree, and then went to the "content" tab to look at the "text content" section, which extracts the text content from the page. There are other things you can do to analyze the risk of going to a URL. However, there are some URLs that are on their blacklist and you have to use a different scanner for those. By way of example, I used VirusTotal to extract the title of that YouTube video (Konstantin Kisin: "Don't Be a Useful Idiot" - Lessons from the Soviet Union - YouTube) to decide it was more of the inane same.
