According to the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-30831128 Google will cease selling Google Glass on January 19.
This is not a permanent stop to the sales. Google continue working toward the next version of Glass and releasing it again.
The company insists it is still committed to launching the smart glasses as a consumer product, but will stop producing Glass in its present form.
Instead it will focus on "future versions of Glass" with work carried out by a different division to before.
Can it be that the general public, and the backlash against "Glassholes" has made Google pull the product?

The problem with Google Glass for me is it seems like Google's focus was to make it ad delivery device with a feature set that's not much better or even worse than a typical smartphone.
I would have been more excited about "Virtual Savant" features (and "Virtual Telepathy", "Virtual Telekinesis" once brain-computer interfaces become better and thought macros become possible).
Virtual Savant = eidetic memory (continuous recording in HD to "ring buffer"- trigger to save last X minutes), facial recognition (good for sales/business people), fast object finding or counting, math assistant (select top left and bottom right of a bunch of numbers, and add them up, divide etc), reminder (remind me to do X when I get home or reach this location and/or when it's this time etc).
Military version - gun muzzle detection, camouflage countermeasures/recognition, crack-thump sniper locator assistant etc, UWB radar and comms, blue on blue avoidance/tracking, etc.

How about licence plate tracking too? Good for some folks/apps. You're not paranoid if people or cars are actually following you day after day, keeping nearly out of sight...
Or "super shopper" - make a list of items you want and have it highlight them for you as you shop, compare prices, read barcodes etc. Perhaps image recognition stuff isn't up to spotting arbitrary objects yet. But Google is supposedly full of very smart people right?
Baby cry alert? Some people get very engrossed while reading a book or other stuff and may not notice their baby crying or stuff like that.
Ideas are easy, implementation is hard (that's why I think patents nowadays slow progress more than they help). Perhaps we'll have to wait a fair bit before we get something less disappointing and crappy than "Google Glass".
