SoylentNews is people

Business Insider had two stories about Android recently, one trumpeting in full capitals "ANDROID SALES ARE IN DECLINE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER", the other claiming "Apple is now an existential threat to Android". Other publications like Forbes have frequent vitriolic articles about Google's Open Source mobile OS and fulsome praise for Apple and its iPhone.

So why does MSM (MainStream Media) love iOS and hate Android? Is it purely advertising-revenue driven or is there a deeper underlying reason?

Add into that the ones that don't have their head stuck that far up Apples ass are Microsoft shills for the most part. In case most have not noticed in the last few years it is cool to hate on Google now, they must have pissed in their cornflakes somehow..

Microsoft Shills? Fanboys? Apple? This is not ZDNet. People here have an understanding of technology and rise above that stuff.

      ????????????????????

Alright, so this is a nerdy, geeky site. And - what? We're supposed to pretend that there are NOT legions of shills employed by the most successful corporations around? We should pretend that fanboys don't exist?

The terms were coined to describe real people, in real life.

I try to be careful not to apply that label to everyone that I disagree with, just because they sing the praises of something that I don't like. All the same, there ARE legions of paid shills who spend their days singing Hosanahs to the likes of Microsoft and Apple. And, there ARE even more fanboys than there are shills.

And, it remains a fact that MSM along with much of corporate America has ignored Linux and it's derivatives at best. As often as not, MSM and corporate America actively works to undermine Linux, Android, and anything related to them.

FYI - I'm not exactly a Linux fanboy. I am a fan of opensource, and the sharing of ideas. Linux, along with Gnu, is just the best known promoter of such ideals.

    Bingo!
Gates & Co. have been buying off Lamestream Media (and any "journalist" with zero ethics) for decades.
Roy Schestowitz at TechRights has been noting the ongoing anti-Android FUD by M$ and its proxies. [google.com]
M$ really really hates the idea of competing on a level playing field and readily plays the FUDster or signifying monkey. [wikipedia.org] (lyrics) [utexas.edu]

All the same, Dr. Schestowitz isn't so keen on Android or Cyanogen and continues to recommend the more-open Replicant. [google.com] (page) [techrights.org]

I'm note sure why the Troll mod. FaceBook was caught doing *exactly* this and Microsoft has regularly demonstrated the same lack of ethics. I don't think Apple needs to pay for FUD because of their fans in media, but Microsoft sure does, and I'm fairly convinced they pay for it regularly.

I don't think Apple needs to pay for FUD

They don't pay for FUD, but that doesn't mean they don't pay, or hand out free devices, send out advance news releases to their friends. There is no doubt Apple is seeding these articles, and one of these days some journalist will get laid off and go rogue and spill the beans.

But i doubt their friends in the press will publish it, because that would dry up their source of free stuff.

If you have any doubts whether M$ is an ethical company, you might want to educate yourself.

Note that because of the age of that material it omits certain newer nasty things like how M$ bought the OOXML standard and how it abuses the "secure" boot.
