Linux user. Tries to keep feeding the brain with stuff. Husband and father of a young lady and a younger son who has autism/is autistic... that nut didn't fall far from this nut-tree, I'll tell ya: he gets it honestly. Now if only he'd sleep..............

I believe that God gave us the science, curiousity and intelligence to one day conclusively prove that God does not exist.

Mike does another good job explaining why dark matter hand waving is not needed when you have science.

Just looking for good shows to watch that are a little different and off the scope:

My wife found us a good british comedy called 'Man Down' that turned out to be 'brill', funny as hell.

I've been actually enjoying ST Discovery (although, definitely not canon), Superstore, ...

Anyone have a must watch show i may have missed? I don't care: throw whatever my way.

From the I-must-remember-to-start-a-major-war-and-mass-genocide dept.

Here's an interesting thought: who will be remembered 1000 years from now?

http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20171220-how-to-be-remembered-in-1000-years/

I'd say Adolf Hitler, for one. But not Donald Trump or Hillary.
Churchill (Adolf's arch enemy)? Maybe by the British, but.....

Elon Musk?
Carrot Top?

Kim Kardashian for frell's sake???

Went to McDonald's for lunch today (shopping at WallyWorld) and waited FOREVER!

It's not like they were that busy; they could take your money faster than anything. But then you waited...and waited...and waited.

I believe it is all to try to force people onto their app and kiosk: order it and it will be ready ahead of time: meanwhile, we'll lay off more people! Yay, we win!

My wife doesn't like the 'order kiosk': she doesn't like it taking away jobs, and I don't like the app idea (or McDonald's period). Even as a person of autism who doesn't care for interacting with people, I prefer talking to a person ( I can then hold THEM responsible for a screwup, lol).

We finally get our food and the order is wrong, so we have to go back up and get it done again.
Meanwhile, people have had their money taken from them quickly and are lining up to get their food and the line just keeps getting longer and longer and people are waiting longer and longer....

(I prefer A&W: better food, great rootbeer, much better fries.)

So my guess is that McDonald's is willing to take a short term kick up the ass and make their customers wait longer and longer in order to make them order THEIR way.
Me, I'd just rather wait at A&W.

Software

Welp, i got MycroftAI installed (should i say, FINALLY installed).

Had to jump through hoops and stand on my head holding the rabbit ears sideways, but yeah....

There are a lot of skills that aren't fully working, but so far it has a lot of things i need, like knowing the date and time, lol, and being able to set a quick alarm ("Mycroft, set an alarm for noon""Mycroft, set an alarm for 30 minutes").

Changed it from "Hey Mycroft" to just "Mycroft" cause saying Hey Mycroft EVERY SINGLE TIME is just a pain.

I think i'll suggest an 'interactive mode' where you can say "Hey Mycroft go active" and then it will just try to answer everything thrown its way until told to go out of 'interactive mode' so you don't have to say Mycroft so often.

Right now, it is telling me what pi is to 1000 decimal points, lol. Fun times!

Playah gotta keep playin'!

Edit

Was able to open smplayer with Mycroft, but it sees/hears palemoon as two separate words and kaffs, lol.
Was happy to see it open smplayer, and tomorrow plan on trying other programs.

Wonder what happens if I ask Mycroft to open Mycroft? Duelling AI?

Will have to see about changing its default error message to "I can't do that, Dave" ;)

So, i went online and designed myself a nerd shirt (last year, my daughter and son-in-law got me a shirt with the xkcd 'sudo sandwich' design on it).

This year, i got a black shirt
Front: Ich bin ein Linux Nerd!
Back: Powered by Arch linux.

Designed it myself, with off-set print. Looking forward to wearing it for our next Catan game after Christmas!

OS

I am installing McAfee antivirus on my wife's windows 7 laptop.

For years she has been telling g me that you can't do anything with Linux (as in everyone needs MS locked in programs.

Today, she is trying to send an MS Word doc to a publisher, but cannot connect to the website because her OS is sooooo slow and keeps freezing.

My response was "yeah, you can't do ANYTHING with Linux!"

After our usual win/Lin argument, i said I'd install antivirus if she wanted.

THIS. IS. PAINFUL!!! Soooooo slooooooow!

Her argument is that when Linux gets as popular as windows, my system will get slow too....
.....her tablet is Android, lol. She surf's through Linux servers. My daughter and son in law have Android phones (my wife and I don't have cell phones)..... So much she didn't know but now does.

She was so mad and frustrated at me until I pointed out that she was mad at her precious Windows, but taking it out on me, lol.

Getting some brownie points if this antivirus works. Crossing fingers. She'd be so much better off dual booting, but yeah.... Windows is teh best!

Am currently watching Episode 2 of STD. And it may not be canon to TOS, but maybe canon to the reboot movie?

But it is fun, so far.

A cloaked klingon vessel just rammed a Federation ship: COOL strategy.

So far, i am interested. So far, STD is.... fascinating.
