Poland and Sweden refuse to play Russia in World Cup qualifiers because of Ukraine invasion
The national soccer teams for Poland and Sweden will not play Russia in pivotal FIFA World Cup playoff qualifiers in March because of the country's invasion of Ukraine.
Poland's football association president Cezary Kulesza said in a tweet on Saturday it is "time to act!"
"Due to the escalation of the aggression of the Russian Federation towards Ukraine the Polish national team does not intend to play the play-off match against Russia," he wrote.
Russia can only hang it's big bear head in shame, and head home with it's little bear tail between it's legs. /sarcasm
No word yet from the ITTF table tennis foundation. Or the World Golf Association. FIDE World Chess Champion Magnus Carlson has declined to comment on the situation.

Germany to send thousands of weapons to Ukraine in major reversal
Germany will send 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 Stinger missiles to Ukraine, marking a complete reversal in Berlin's restrictive arms export policy, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced Saturday.
Well, weeks, or months, late is better than never, right? Of course, not being a citizen of the EU, I can't understand why Germany gets the final word in everything military. WTF, this is like Texas dictating military doctrine to the entire United States! But, yeah, weeks late. The conflict will be decided before these weapons shipments can be deployed, in the field. Which leads to a question: how are the weapons going to travel from Germany to Ukraine? Is FedEx still flying into Kiev? Same question applies to Sleepy Joe's promise of $350 million in military aid. MAC flights are still cleared to fly to Ukraine?
UKRAINE: Hysterical Western Reaction, Retaliation – May Lead to Wider War
FEBRUARY 26, 2022 BY NEWS WIRE 1 COMMENT
Once again, we are seeing hysterical reactions by the usual suspects, and just as before – with no consideration for the consequences.Russophobe, germophobe, it’s all the same.
I simplify. But it’s striking how the loudest Russophobic voices include all the same voices which were similarly hysterical about Covid – the mainstream media, the Labour Party, and the liberal elite (which includes much of the Conservative Party), while the few voices calling for even a modicum of restraint or understanding of Russia include anti-lockdown Farage (on GB News) and Trump, both of the Right. Piers Corbyn and Jeremy Corbyn, virtually alone on the Left have spoken up, while Starmer has forced 11 of his MPs who signed a Stop The War statement to withdraw their signatures.
Hysteria is a popular reaction to everything these days. I blame it on the intartubez and all those under-30s influencers.
Oh - I've been hacked, or doxxed, or something. Suddenly, Fox News is filling my inbox with up-to-the-minute reports on Ukraine. My past registrations on Fox News were done with throwaway email accounts. How did they get my real email? And, Fox is no better than Sky News, or France 24. CNN's reporting is more credible, but not by much. WION is doing a very nice job of reporting, followed by DW from Berlin. India Today seemed to be doing a decent job, but then they started rolling the same few videos over and over.
I lost a tab somehow, I wanted to link to a specific time at which some reputed journalist states "In the early days, you can't believe any reports from any sources" then goes on to justify his comment. I think that was on WION, but I'm not real sure.
Sanctions. Most of the proposed sanctions are just about as silly as Poland and Sweded withdrawing from the world cup. It seems that denying Russia access to SWIFT might be consequential, but even that is open for debate. Russia planned for all those sanctions well in advance.
So, how goes the war?
On the one hand, the media breathlessly proclaims Ukraine to be on top, slowing and repelling attacks all over the nation. Meanwhile, they report on Russian troops inside Kiev. Basically, it seems that Russia controls the country side, going where they wish, doing as they see fit. Military bases have come under attack, and at least one base has changed hands at least three times - maybe more. https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-news/ukraine-russia-news-02-24-22-intl/h_ab6cab437dff1920a9fcec2857593b70

the untrained civilians who were given weapons are shooting at each other FFS! There is speculation whether it's accidental freindly fire, or infighting between Ukraine factions.
Ukraine has made overtures that might lead to peace talks, and so has Russia. Ukraine doesn't want to go to Minsk, and Russia doesn't want to go to Poland. It's going to take more days to decide if and where any talks might be held.
Meanwhile, we wait for March 2nd, as quietus suggested here https://soylentnews.org/breakingnews/comments.pl?noupdate=1&sid=47906&page=2&cid=1224389#commentwrap
SpaceX’s Starbase environmental review delayed another month
The FAA says that it will take at least another month to complete a crucial environmental review of orbital Starship launches from SpaceX’s South Texas Starbase facilities.
The agency now expects that Starbase’s Programmatic Environmental Assessment (PEA) will be completed no earlier than March 28th, 2022, delaying the process at least another four weeks on top of an initial delay from December 31st, 2021 to February 28th, 2022. However, while the FAA gained some infamy for repeatedly delay SpaceX Starbase launch operations in late 2020 and early 2021, there is growing evidence that other US government agencies – not the FAA itself – are primarily responsible for most of the review’s delays.
Namely, information acquired through a Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) request indicates that US Departments of Fish and Wildlife Services (FWS) and National Parks Services (NPS) are the primary sources of recent delays and the only real sources of discord this late in the process.
[...] It’s difficult to say how many of the concerns raised are actually serious. For example, the point repeatedly made by the DOI, FWS, and NPS is that hypothetical emissions from a natural gas power plant SpaceX proposed to build in its Draft PEA would violate EPA rules.
However, since that draft was published, there is growing evidence that SpaceX is behind a brand new power distribution line set to connect Boca Chica and Brownsville, Texas. The new lines appear to be sized to provide Starbase with enough power to entirely preclude the need for the construction of any dedicated power plants on site. Only a backup power source of some kind would be necessary. Assuming SpaceX is actually behind the development, it’s difficult to believe that the company hasn’t communicated that change of plans to the FAA and other Starbase PEA stakeholders.
They are ramping up operations in Florida as a hedge against something going wrong with the environmental assessment.
Earlier this month, NASA expressed concern over SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's plans to orbit 30,000 more Starlink satellites. In a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the agency said that the plan could create "substantial congestion," increase the potential for collisions, and interfere with NASA's missions.
The letter was sent to the FCC because it's reviewing SpaceX's license application for a new generation of satellites, Starlink Gen2. SpaceX received an initial FCC license for 12,000 satellites in 2018.

Putin orders troops to breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin recognised two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine as independent on Monday and ordered the Russian army to launch what Moscow called a peacekeeping operation into the area, accelerating a crisis the West fears could unleash a major war.
[...] Russian state television showed Putin, joined by Russia-backed separatist leaders, signing a decree recognising the independence of the two Ukrainian breakaway regions -- the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and the Lugansk People's Republic - along with agreements on cooperation and friendship.
Defying Western warnings against such a move, Putin had announced his decision in phone calls to the leaders of Germany and France earlier, both of whom voiced disappointment, the Kremlin said.
As Putin sends troops into Donbas, White House avoids the 'I' word
As Russian armored columns were seen entering the two areas, it was clear that the order will immediately reconfigure the European security landscape as capitals across the continent scramble to respond to the possibility that has long faced them: a large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“This was a speech to the Russian people to justify war,” a senior administration official told reporters Monday.
The official, who requested anonymity in order to discuss sensitive issues, wouldn’t call the move an invasion, however, saying “Russian troops moving into Donbas would not itself be a new step. Russia has had forces in the Donbas for the past eight years.”
It’s an important distinction, as an invasion would trigger sanctions on Russia and imperil diplomatic meetings that were set on the condition that Russia not invade Ukraine.
Still, the official said they “strongly suspect sanctions activity” from the Biden administration on Tuesday.
After announcing he would recognize the regions, Putin met with Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik, leaders of the Russian-backed rebel forces and signed documents pledging cooperation and aid.

Armed Portland Antifa Pick Fight With Violent Biker Gang Then Blame POLICE When Things Get Violent
Gunfire erupted when violent Antifa militants appear to have picked a fight with a notorious Portland, Ore. area biker gang.
Antifa lost.
At least one person ended up dead and five others were injured in Portland Saturday night.
Portland Police are still sorting things out, but what we know is that police were called on Saturday night shortly after 8 p.m to a disturbance that quickly escalated into gunfire.

#UPDATE ON MASS SHOOTING: @PortlandPolice say their preliminary investigation found the shooting started as a confrontation between an armed protester and an armed neighbor who lives nearby. Confirmed information is still limited at the time @fox12oregon

As Portland Police Public Information Officer Lt. Nathan Sheppard attempted to update the media on the shooting melee in Northeast Portland, two known Antifa militants took over the news conference, commandeered the microphones, and began blaming the police for failing to do their jobs to protect them.
According to Antifa protesters who took over the presser, identified by the Post Millennial as “Hailley Nolan and Dustin Ferreira,” the previous night their comrades had gone to confront members of notorious Portland area biker gang the Gypsy Jokers. Police say at least one of the Antifa militants was armed (which they usually are).
Nolan, who appeared to have trouble breathing, said it was the Portland Police Bureau’s fault when a woman died in the shooting melee and five others were wounded.
“They are sending Gypsy Jokers to kidnap us,” she breathlessly announced. She pointed to Lt. Sheppard and accused the police of encouraging the violence against Antifa, saying “they are sanctioning this violence against us. We are dying. We are trying to peacefully protest and they are killing us. And I want to know if any of you care. I want to know if Ted Wheeler cares.” See the video below.
She indicated why they took over the news conference by admitting “we are not going to let them capture the narrative and lie,” as she pointed to the police.
We can understand why. When you’re Antifa and you pick a fight with a biker gang, Antifa looks pretty dumb.
While the media watched, the Antifa goons chased the lieutenant back to his patrol car and attempted to surround it — their favorite trick.

The Portland Gypsy Jokers are reputedly among the most violent, drug dealing, anti-social biker posses this side of the Hells Angels. They’re some bad dudes. Worse than Corn Pop.
Antifa and their BLM wingmen have done nothing but denigrate the Portland Police for the past two to three years, demanding they be defunded because “they are killing us,” according to the white woman at the presser.
Let’s just step back for a second to observe the irony that Portland Antifa has been at the forefront of calling for defunding police. Portland’s police department has been decimated by the defunding after city commissioners and the mayor took these Antifa dunces’ word that there should be fewer cops. Forced vaccinations took another swath of cops off the job. Portland’s Antifa was part of Gov. Kate Brown’s mask and vaccine shock troop enforcement as well.
The violent, childish Antifa came up against a notorious, violent biker gang, which, unlike police, will fight back.
Antifa 0, Gypsy Jokers 1.

Activist Quintez Brown charged in attempted shooting of Louisville mayor hopeful Greenberg
Andrew Wolfson
Louisville Courier JournalA Louisville activist has been identified as a suspect in Monday's attempted shooting of mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg.
Quintez Brown, 21, was charged with attempted murder and four counts of wanton endangerment after Greenberg was shot at in his campaign headquarters Monday morning in Butchertown, LMPD spokeswoman Elizabeth Ruoff said late Monday.
Brown, a civil rights activist, is a former intern and editorial columnist for The Courier Journal.
A police report says a man later identified as Brown entered the building and fired a 9mm Glock handgun at Greenberg before fleeing the building.
Greenberg was not injured, but one of the bullets struck his clothing, Chief Erika Shields said earlier Monday. Police evacuated Greenberg, a Democrat, and his staff from the building and eventually took a person into custody, she said.

He also had a drawstring bag with a handgun, handgun case and additional magazines, the report said.
Surveillance video from the building showed the suspect wearing clothes matching Brown's and carrying a matching bag, the report said.

Brown had been a University of Louisville student and an opinion editor for the Cardinal, the student newspaper. He was involved in the racial justice protests of 2020.
He disappeared last summer but was found safe July 1 after being missing about two weeks.
In a statement after he was found, his family said: "We are asking for privacy and would appreciate everyone's patience and support while we tend to the most immediate need, which is Quintez's physical, mental and spiritual needs.”
Brown was an MLK Scholar at U of L and is the founder of From Fields to Arena, a group committed to providing political education and violence prevention training to youths engaged in hip-hop and athletics.
After he went missing, family and friends formed several search parties, distributed flyers and met at locations around the city to look for him.
He recently announced he would run for Metro Council in District 5.
In his Twitter profile, he said: “We have one scientific and correct solution, Pan-Africanism: the total liberation and unification of Africa under scientific socialism.”
In a separate Jan. 10 post, Brown wrote what he called a “Revolutionary Love Letter” saying, “I am writing this to remind you how great you are. During our short stay on this glorious planet we all have been collectively dehumanized and reduced to political talking points — Black, white, liberal, conservative, Christian, criminal, boss, worker, activist, etc.

“We have been educated to use our minds narrowly and forced to identify ourselves with roles that trap us in a collective perpetual state of anxiety,” he said. “We have forgotten how harmonious this thing called life is and have fallen victim to a vicious circle of pain and suffering. Many of our friends are suffering from a deep feeling of alienation.”
But, wait - I thought the narrative went along the lines of "Only right wing extremists actually kill people!" Well . . . maybe that's correct. It seems left wing extremists are incompetent when it comes to killing. Better luck next time Quisling!

Woke Brooklyn College that banned campus cops from carrying guns - after official said she was 'triggered' by female officer with a Glock - is forced to call for help from OTHER schools during active shooter threat
Brooklyn College's 'woke' president has barred campus police from carrying guns as part of a 'rebranding' of campus security
On February 3, the school issued an 'active shooter' threat and at least 10 peace officers from four other institutions were called to respond to the shooting
Meanwhile on-campus security were dispatched to collect their locked up guns from lockers
The new edict raises questions of how the school can ensure the safety of students on campus in a city where gun crime has risen 30 percent year-on-year
College President Michelle Anderson, a former Yale Law school professor, yanked the Glock-19 pistols from the Flatbush-Midwood campus in October
The decision came after an unnamed official 'felt triggered' by the sight of female campus security carrying guns
Shortly after Anderson's disarming edict was handed down, on October 21, there was a shooting just off campus in which four people were wounded
Joseph Giacalone, a retired NYPD sergeant who is an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, was flabbergasted by the decision
Giacalone added that 'criminals are opportunists and if they know cops are not welcome on campus they will take advantage of it

I'm worried, What happened to the lessons of the last century? I had a grandmother who lived through both world wars and lived to own and use a smartphone.
Much important history has faded from living memory. We mock, harass and intimidate our historians and philosophers.
We for get the optimism and courage of our parents' generation who stood up for civil rights, equality and social justice. We look the other way as hard-won rights are eroded. We sit idly by while we let tyrants exploit us and dismantle our democratic structures and rob us of our sustenance.
At times like these I turn to popular music for inspiration and wisdom. I would like to share one particular retrospectively enthusiastic piece I've recently discovered from more optimistic times and I'd like to think it hasn't been in vain quite yet. We are still the human race.
It's by Montrose (also a Scottish town) and is called Space Station #5 and goes like this:
Start, with the sun
And move on out
The future's in the skies above
The heavens unfold
And a new star is born
Space and time makin' love
Now, I'm sure that's the sort of thing Homer Simpson had on his 8 track in his car back in the day.

Who has noticed any shortages on their store shelves? Are your shelves fully stocked? Or, are some items rarely in stock? Or, maybe your local grocer's shelves are half empty all the time?
https://yournews.com/2022/01/14/2282520/u-s-grocery-shortages-deepen-as-pandemic-dries-supplies/
U.S. grocery shortages deepen as pandemic dries supplies
(Reuters) – High demand for groceries combined with soaring freight costs and Omicron-related labor shortages are creating a new round of backlogs at processed food and fresh produce companies, leading to empty supermarket shelves at major retailers across the United States.
Growers of perishable produce across the West Coast are paying nearly triple pre-pandemic trucking rates to ship things like lettuce and berries before they spoil. Shay Myers, CEO of Owyhee Produce, which grows onions, watermelons and asparagus along the border of Idaho and Oregon, said he has been holding off shipping onions to retail distributors until freight costs go down.
Myers said transportation disruptions in the last three weeks, caused by a lack of truck drivers and recent highway-blocking storms, have led to a doubling of freight costs for fruit and vegetable producers, on top of already-elevated pandemic prices. “We typically will ship, East Coast to West Coast – we used to do it for about $7,000,” he said. “Today it’s somewhere between $18,000 and $22,000.”

Grocery store shortages are back. Here are some of the reasons why
No, you're not imagining it. Some grocery store shelves are bare again, conjuring bad memories of spring 2020 for many.
Social media is rife with images of empty supermarket aisles and signs explaining the lack of available food and other items. Stores such as Aldi have apologized to customers for the shortages.
The reasons for the dwindling stock are numerous, according to food industry analysts, and include some issues that impacted retailers at the beginning of the pandemic as well as challenges that have cropped up more recently.
"We're really seeing the perfect storm," Phil Lempert, editor of the website SupermarketGuru.com, told NPR.
Lempert said the Northeast is facing some of the worst shortages now, due in part to recent winter storms that snarled transportation routes, but that could change with the weather.
Even your backup grocery store is struggling to stay fully stocked
(CNN) -- Frustrated shoppers are already dealing with unpredictable product shortages and empty shelves at their favorite grocery stores.
But if they're hoping to pivot to a neighborhood convenience store to fill in some everyday necessities, they might be out of luck there, too.
Convenience stores typically serve as an ideal substitute to a grocery store when all that's needed is a case of water, a couple bags of chips or maybe just a carton of milk.
That makes local shops perfect for the quick mid-week, fill-in graocery trip, said Arie Kotler, president and CEO of Arko Corp., which operates over 1,400 small format convenience stores in 28 states.
But convenience store operators say the ongoing supply chain disruptions have also impacted their ability to adequately meet the fill-in needs of shoppers in larger cities and, more importantly, the daily essential needs of customers in secondary markets and rural areas where a convenience store might be the only store in town for food items.

US food supply chain is strained as virus spreads
Shutdown of Sioux Falls, S.D., pork plant an example of the disruption caused by the coronavirus. The nation’s food supply chain is showing signs of strain, as increasing numbers of workers are falling ill with the coronavirus in meat processing plants, warehouses and grocery stores.
The spread of the virus through the food and grocery industry is expected to cause disruptions in production and distribution of certain products like pork, industry executives, labor unions and analysts have warned in recent days. The issues follow nearly a month of stockpiling of food and other essentials by panicked shoppers that have tested supply networks as never before.
Industry leaders and observers acknowledge the shortages could increase, but they insist it is more of an inconvenience than a major problem. People will have enough to eat; they just may not have the usual variety. The food supply remains robust, they say, with hundreds of millions of pounds of meat in cold storage. There is no evidence that the coronavirus can be transmitted through food or its packaging, according to the Department of Agriculture.
Seriously, folks - it's time to get over your fear of life, and allow people to go back to work. If people ain't makin' bacon, there won't be any bacon bits to put on your dandelion and poke salad.
