CBS News fires staffer who had access to leaked Amy Robach audio

CBS News has fired a female staffer believed to have had access to the tape of Amy Robach raging against ABC News, Page Six understands.

We reported on Wednesday that ABC News chiefs discovered a former employee could be behind the leak of the damning footage of Robach slamming the network for shelving her interview with Jeffrey Epstein’s “sex slave” Virginia Roberts Giuffre. Sources told Page Six that a former staffer had access to the footage of Robach as she aired her frustrations over a hot mike — and that employee was now believed to be working at CBS.

A TV source told us later on Wednesday that the woman was let go from CBS, after ABC execs alerted the rival network.

ABC sources confirmed to us that they’d informed counterparts at CBS about the staffer “as a courtesy.”

President Donald Trump must personally pay $2 million in fines because he illegally used his charity to benefit his 2016 candidacy. A state judge in New York delivered the judgment on Thursday afternoon. The judicially-assessed penalty must be paid to a number of nonprofit organizations in the Empire State.

A press release from New York Attorney General Letitia James notes the general contours of the settlement:

[James] announced that her office entered into multiple stipulations with the Trump Foundation and its directors to resolve the remaining claims in the lawsuit. Chiefly, Mr. Trump admits to personally misusing funds at the Trump Foundation, and agrees to restrictions on future charitable service and ongoing reporting to the Office of the Attorney General in the event he creates a new charity. The settlements also include mandatory training requirements for Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump.

Rep. Devin Nunes remains super angry about a satirical internet cow. Earlier this year, we wrote about his lawsuit against the satirical cow on Twitter (and against Twitter itself) as well as a bunch of other lawsuits Nunes has been filing against critics in the intervening months. The cases appear to be fairly obvious SLAPP lawsuits; that is lawsuits that are designed solely to silence critics, rather than based on any legitimate legal basis. As we've noted, the venues in which Nunes has focused his lawsuits (mostly Virginia, and now Iowa) have either weak or non-existent anti-SLAPP laws. Tragically, the original case, against two satirical Twitter accounts, including one called "Devin Nunes' Cow" (a satirical reference to Nunes' oft-repeated claim of being a California dairy farmer, even as his family farm has uprooted itself to Iowa) was not thrown out by the judge on jurisdictional grounds, allowing the case to move forward.

According to the Fresno Bee, however, even as that lawsuit is ongoing, Nunes' lawyer in the case has sent a threatening demand letter to Andrew Janz, a lawyer and state prosecutor who ran against Nunes in the last election and lost (much more narrowly than many people seemed to expect). The full letter is truly a piece of work, demanding Janz make the @DevinCow account stop making fun of Devin Nunes and issue an apology.

Father of slain Deer Park children 'devastated'

The father of three children who were found shot to death with their mother inside the family’s Deer Park home this week said he was shocked at the idea his estranged wife could be responsible.

Murvin Auzenne Jr. said he and his wife were nearing the end of a contentious divorce and “she was very upset with the result.” He said she was particularly distressed that she would not be able to move with their children to her hometown, and would have to get a job and pay him rent if she remained in their home.

DEER PARK, Texas — UPDATE: The deaths of a Deer Park woman and her three children have been ruled a murder-suicide.

Deer Park officials Tweeted the information out Thursday afternoon:

PREVIOUSLY: Deer Park police still guard the house where officers discovered four bodies Tuesday morning.

They were later identified by Deer Park police as a mother and her three children: Ashley Auzenne, 39; Parrish Auzenne, 11; Eleanor Auzenne, 9; Lincoln Auzenne, 7.

Police initially declined to say if they suspected a murder-suicide. However, they stated they weren’t pursuing suspects and that there was no danger to the community.

All of the bodies suffered gunshot wounds.

After getting final divorce papers, anti-gun activist mother shoots her 3 young children dead: Police

As school staff at a Texas elementary school worried about how the children of a newly-divorced couple would cope with their new life changes, the mother of the kids shot them dead following her finalized divorced.

ABC 13 reports that authorities found the bodies of Parrish Auzenne, 11, Eleanor Auzenne, 9, and Lincoln Auzenne, 7, inside their Deer Park home off of New Orleans Street on Tuesday morning. After the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled their deaths as murder, detectives said that their 39-year-old mother, Ashley Auzenne, was the primary suspect.

After killing her children, Auzenne then turned the gun on herself, causing fatal injuries. Her death was listed as suicide.

According to court documents, Ashley Auzenne was the one who filed for divorce.

One of Ashley Auzenne’s friends, Carrie Junot, called the woman “the sweetest person” who seemed dedicated to all of her children.

        “She was a mom, completely about making sure her kids were happy and taken care of. I know she was dealing with a bunch of stuff personally and medically…..She was the nicest person you could have met, opened her doors to people and advocated for her son.”

Another friend, Mary Dybka, reportedly said Ashley Auzenne was vocal about her disdains of guns and gun violence. Dybka said the pair would joke that Ashley was “more Yankee then Texan with her Democratic views and strict gun control beliefs.”

Dybka told the Houston Chronicle that her friend was the victim of emotional abuse.

“I know he had been extremely controlling and extremely verbally abusive,” she said, referring to Auzenne Jr.

Auzenne Jr.’s father, however, told CBS 11 that there is “no rational explanation” for what happened.

“When young innocents die like this, there is no rational explanation. We will never know why Ashley acted as she did, but we offer our heartfelt prayers to her family,” Murvin Auzenne Sr. said. “Until law enforcement completes its investigation, we ask the public to please respect our need to grieve our loss in private.

'Extreme haunted' house is 'torture chamber' in disguise, says petition to close it

A haunted house that requires participants to get a doctor's note and sign a 40-page waiver before they enter is facing some pushback online with more than 31,000 people signing a petition calling for it to be shut down.

A Change.org petition calls on Tennessee and Alabama state officials to "shut down McKamey Manor," which it says is a "torture chamber under disguise."

"They do screenings to find the weakest, most easily manipulated people to do the 'haunt'. ... Mckamey Manor is a shame to all haunted houses, and needs to be shut down," the petition started by a person named Frankie Towery reads.

Towery claims participants have been waterboarded, "forced to eat things" and have had duct tape wrapped around their heads. The petition calls for both locations of the haunted house — in Summertown, Tennessee and Huntsville, Alabama — closed.

Rep. Katie Hill announces resignation amid allegations of improper relationships with staffers

Democratic Rep. Katie Hill of California on Sunday announced her resignation from Congress days after she admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with a campaign staffer before coming into office.

"It is with a broken heart that today I announce my resignation from Congress," Hill said in a statement Sunday. "This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but I believe it is the best thing for my constituents, my community, and our country."

News of Hill's resignation comes after the House Committee on Ethics announced Wednesday it was opening an investigation into allegations Hill engaged in an improper relationship with a congressional staffer in possible violation of House rules.

That report included three photos of the congresswoman, including an explicit photo. CNN has reached out to Hill's husband for comment but has not heard back. But acknowledging this does not mean that we must understand such affairs as acceptable.
