Trump official revises Statue of Liberty poem to defend migrant rule change

A top US immigration official has revised a quote inscribed on the Statue of Liberty in defence of a new policy that denies food aid to legal migrants.

The head of Citizenship and Immigration Services tweaked the passage: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free".

The official added the words "who can stand on their own two feet and who will not become a public charge".

It comes as Trump officials debuted a regulation that denies aid to migrants.

Ken Cuccinelli, the Trump administration's acting head of Citizenship and Immigration Services, announced on Monday a new "public charge" requirement that limits legal migrants from seeking certain public benefits such as public housing or food aid, or are considered likely to do so in the future.

Relationship Hacking: Part 24 - A Dinner Guest

Last night my wife and I invited "L" over for dinner.

I picked up a store-roasted chicken for dinner on my way home. L met me at my house and arrived before my wife had returned from a playdate with my daughter's friend. I spent a few minutes tidying the house, then my wife arrived home.

All day at work, I was nervous about the meeting between the two of them. Both L and my wife are calm, reasonable people, so I had no fear of a dramatic meeting, but I was nervous nonetheless. On my way home from work, I felt like I was going to puke.

They met, shook hands, and we opened a bottle of wine. We made small talk as we puttered around the kitchen getting things ready for dinner. Things went as well as could be expected.

Dinner was nice. My daughter, who we normally have to fight with over dinner, was a little darling. She ate well and was being super cute. All in all, it was not as awkward as one might expect.

We finished our dessert, and I walked L out to her car. I said my goodbyes, and headed inside. My wife put my daughter to bed and we sat down on the couch to talk.

What followed was a pretty intense conversation. L is very attractive, smart, and level-headed. It was not easy for my wife to meet someone who, on the surface, appears nearly perfect. How do you prove your love to someone?

As our conversation was winding down, I asked my wife how much of our conversation I could share with L. My wife, as she often does, surprised me. She said to me that she would be okay with me sharing everything with her. She feels that it is important for communication to be open between L, my wife, and I. Being inclusive so we can work together.

I then called L, and another intense conversation followed. What does a future look like for L? She wants kids. She doesn't want to play second-fiddle. She doesn't want to be the cause of a breakup. Where does this end?

I don't know. I don't know where this is going. No one does. I have this dream of a utopianesque thing where we buy a duplex and put a interior door between the two halves. Everyone under one roof. 3 parents raising kids together. Is this possible? I have no idea.

My wife is so brave. L is brave. I'm scared. My wife enabling L to be included is a leap of faith. L continuing to see me despite a mountain of reasons not to is a leap of faith. Where will we all land?

4 years ago, we embarked on this journey. The early relationships I had were nothing compared to this. They feel like easy practice quizzes, where this is the final exam. This is a real test.

I know many of you will read this and disapprove and/or judge. I know this is difficult for my wife. I know this is difficult for L. I'm in the middle of a minefield. It's complicated. It feels like chaos right now. Are we all strong enough and committed enough to make it though in one piece?

I sure hope so...

Missouri Walmart panic caused by armed man testing gun rights

A man who sparked panic by walking into a Walmart with a rifle and body armour told police he was testing his right to bear arms in public.

Dmitriy Andreychenko entered the shop heavily armed, days after a mass shooting at another of Walmart's stores. "I wanted to know if that Walmart honoured the second amendment," the 20-year-old told police after his arrest.

Prosecutors have charged him with making a terrorist threat. If found guilty, the charge could result in a four-year prison sentence and a fine of $10,000 (£8,300), Greene County prosecutor Dan Patterson said in a statement.

On 8 August, Mr Andreychenko entered the store "armed with an AR style rifle slung across his chest", police said, wearing a ballistic vest and recording himself. Both the rifle and a handgun he carried were loaded.

He told police he did not expect the reaction his walk generated. "This is Missouri, I understand if we were somewhere else like New York or California, people would freak out," he said, according to police filings. Days before, 20 people had been killed in a Walmart in El Paso by a gunman carrying an automatic rifle.

Also at CBS.

Own him, lefties!

Dayton Shooter Invoked AOC’s ‘Concentration Camp’ Talking Points

https://therundownnews.com/2019/08/dayton-shooter-invoked-aocs-concentration-camp-talking-points/

The “concentration camp” terminology was was coined by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in reference to ICE detention facilities. This is the second time a radical Antifa member has invoked that term before committing an act of terrorism.

Last month, a 69-year-old Antifa member, described as “indigent,” attempted to blow up an ICE facility with homemade bombs. (RELATED: Antifa ICE Bomber Invoked AOC’s ‘Concentration Camp’ Rhetoric Before Terror Attack).

I think we can all agree that the shooter in El Paso was a white supremacist, ie, a Nazi, that is, a National SOCIALIST.

So, what else are the lefties up to? Ahhh, Patchogue, New York. Good old Long Island.

‘Death Camps for Trump Supporters’ fliers hung in Long Island community

Apparently, incendiary rhetoric can fire up the party base, leading to death threats. At least that’s the case when the source of the emotionally charged language is Democratic lawmakers and the legacy media, which for months now have been accusing Donald Trump of racism, xenophobia, and other forms of bigotry.

Like the claim made on air yesterday by MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace that Donald Trump is “talking about exterminating Latinos,” there is no basis in fact for any of these allegations. But that hasn’t stirred the liberal base from becoming fired up over them.

Some in the village of Patchogue, an hour and a half outside New York City, have even taken to posting fliers on telephone polls and parking meters reading “Death Camps For Trump Supporters Now!”

I am old enough to remember when using innocuous printer’s registration marks to designate targeted electoral districts on a political map was enough to persuade the Left of former Gov. Sarah Palin’s violent intent, but that was several hundred civility-years ago.

You sane people who are left of center? You really ought to try reining in the extremists. If/when the real shooting starts, it's gonna be far, far too late. You can't talk to a man, with a shotgun in his hand - two points if you can name the song I lifted that line from.

Best Practices for Making a Right Turn while driving

How to make a right turn from a main street onto a low traffic street.
Easy Guide: For Dummies!

1. First come to a complete stop.
2. Pause for several seconds.
3. (only if driving a BMW...) if there are cars approaching from behind you, continue to wait until they either pass you or are forced to come to a complete stop behind you. The more accumulation, the better.
4. Signal for a right turn.
5. Look around to see that it is safe to make a right turn.
6. When you feel as through you are ready to proceed, then gradually begin making the right turn from the busy street you are on to the non-busy street you are turning into.
7. If any other cars that were behind you also make the same right turn, then proceed slowly and carefully.

Politics: Has Joe Biden got a brain? Who's he kidding?

"We've always brought the country together. 'We the people, we hold these truths to be self-evident.' (Trump) flies in the face of all the basic things that we've never really met the standard (of, but) we've never abandoned it before," Biden said. "He looks like he's just flat abandoned the theory that we are one people."

Riiiiiight. Never really met...or tried to meet. Why try to meet it when you can have the rich on one side and the French fry servers on the other. We're one people, 'cept some of us are more 'one' than others. Moooooo.

"Biden on Monday also doubled down on his support for a new assault weapons ban and suggested his administration would try to create a buyback program to get those weapons off the street."

Riiiiiight. That'll work. The crazies will be ALL over that.

"Biden was clear that he would not seek to confiscate privately owned or purchased guns, instead advocating for "a national buyback program" intended to get the weapons "off the street."

You can vote for me because the laws I make won't matter.

"The fact of the matter is (assault weapons) should be illegal. Period," Biden said. "The Second Amendment doesn't say you can't restrict the kinds of weapons people can own. You can't buy a bazooka. You can't have a flame-thrower."

The 2nd amendment ALSO says you can't restrict hand guns either: clubs are arms. Ban ALL hand guns too!

Good ol' creepy Uncle Joe: it's safe to vote for him cos he'll do nothing to piss you off, really.... except feel your daughter's boob and sniff your wife's hair.

This guy is same old same old ( but creepier).
So.......the parties SAFE choice, I guess.

Starship Update on Aug. 24 + Suborbital Flight Soon?

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says first orbital Starship prototype flight debut is just weeks away

According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, one or both of the company’s two orbital Starship prototypes could be “ready to fly” – or nearly so – by the end of August. Even if Musk is off by one or several months, it would still make for a spectacular achievement.

The focus of the conversation that led Musk to the classic Musk-time prediction was the topic of a long-promised presentation on SpaceX’s Starship program. Although just a few weeks shy of the usual schedule, 2019’s presentation – set for August 24th in Boca Chica, Texas – more or less follows an annual September update tradition that Musk has consistently followed since 2016. Each year, Musk has given the public a glimpse into the constantly evolving process of designing SpaceX’s next-generation Mars-bound rocket. Despite the tradition’s consistency, 2019 is simply different.

The prototypes are referred to as "orbital", but the first flight will be high-altitude suborbital with 3 Raptor engines:

Elon Musk will update the status of Starship development on August 24

In regard to his August 24 presentation, Musk said of this suborbital test vehicle, "We should have Starship Mk1 with 3 Raptors almost ready to fly by then." The orbital version of Starship will ultimately fly on six Raptor engines. The flight of that vehicle into space may come in 2020, or 2021.

One interesting piece of information to look out for: What payload could a single-stage-to-orbit Starship deliver? Probably not much, and it might not make sense not to use it without the Super Heavy booster, but maybe it could still be competitive with smallsat launchers.

Also: Report outlines SpaceX’s plans for Starship launches from KSC

SpaceX plans to build facilities at the Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A for launches and, eventually, landings of its next-generation launch vehicle, according to a newly released report.

An environment assessment prepared by SpaceX, and released by NASA Aug. 1, discusses plans to develop additional facilities at LC-39A, which currently hosts Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches, for use by the company’s Starship vehicle and its Super Heavy booster.

The plans outlined in the document call for the construction of a new launch mount at the complex near the existing one used by the Falcon 9 and Heavy. The modifications to the pad would also include a tank farm for the methane fuel used by the Raptor engines that power Starship and Super Heavy.

The Super Heavy booster would land at a ship in the ocean downrange from the launch site, although the report noted that SpaceX may later have the booster return to land. The Starship upper stage would initially land at the company’s existing Landing Zone 1 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, but the company plans to build a pad near the new launch mount at LC-39A for to support Starship landings at a future date.

The facilities will be able to support up to 24 Starship/Super Heavy launches a year, the company said in the report, with a corresponding decline in Falcon launches from the complex. “Due to the higher lift capability, Starship/Super Heavy could launch more payloads and reduce the overall launch cadence when compared to Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy,” the report states.

32 GB Unbuffered DIMMs Listed from Seven Brands: DDR4-2400 to DDR4-3000

Now that both Samsung and Micron are shipping their 16 Gb DDR4 memory chips to third parties, we're seeing wider availability of 32 GB unbuffered memory modules (UDIMMs). To date, six brands have either introduced, or started to sell their 32 GB unbuffered DIMMs, and in the coming months more manufacturers are expected to follow.

[...] Twitter user momomo_us, who is from Japan, has managed to get a list of 32 GB unbuffered memory modules that are either available now or are about to hit the shelves there. The list is valid for Japan, yet we do know that ADATA and G.Skill are about to launch their 32 GB UDIMMs in the near future too, so our list includes data on these memory sticks as well.

22 percent of millennials say they have “no friends”

A recent poll from YouGov, a polling firm and market research company, found that 30 percent of millennials say they feel lonely. This is the highest percentage of all the generations surveyed.

Furthermore, 22 percent of millennials in the poll said they had zero friends. Twenty-seven percent said they had “no close friends,” 30 percent said they have “no best friends,” and 25 percent said they have no acquaintances. (I wonder if the poll respondents have differing thoughts on what “acquaintance” means; I take it to mean “people you interact with now and then.”)

In comparison, just 16 percent of Gen Xers and 9 percent of baby boomers say they have no friends.

Wow.

Back when I was in college, when the Apple II, TRS-80, PET and Star Wars were somewhat new, we had to actually go physically locate our friends (no cell phones), and ask "hey, you want to go spend some quarters at the video arcade and then get some nachos? Who's going to drive? Want to go ask XXX and YYY to see if they want to come along?"

Sometimes they couldn't go because -- gasp! -- studying! Or reading the required chapter.

Some of us would go to the "computer center" together to use the terminals. For hours. But even this had a significant social element to it.

I wonder how life would have turned out if everyone was trying to get "likes" and "thumbs up" and always glued to their phones? Or glued to video games without spending the required quarters.

I remember getting very good at an electro-mechanical game called "Space Tactics". But I still had a life and limited quarters. And doing laundry competed for those same quarters, which I kept in a Big Cheese Pizza mug with lid. Arcade trips were limited by pouring out a generous handful of quarters and pocketing them.

When graduating, I remember wishing those days could go on forever. We kept in touch all these decades. These people are my lifelong best friends.

What is so different about today? Is it right to blame social media? Does it not only tear apart the fabric of civil society, but also isolate everyone? Can't we have "no phones at the table" rules? (my house did, but I was one of the parents)

I don't believe the people are any different. It is something about the environment.

and it was uphill both ways . . . get off my lawn!
