For the most part I've been down with working at home because most of my homes had an extra room that I used as an office. But my current tiny little apartment does not; my desk is in the living room. It's all too easy to get districted by some other activity one engages in at home.
My desk at NedSpace is in a proper office that I share with one other quite-experienced coder. I was able to focus all day long. Among other things I added all of Snap, Inc.'s locations to The Global Computer Industry Index:

Tomorrow I'm not going to list any companies instead I'll start working on some - long overdue - automation.
To my great - and endlessly-repeated - dismay, every time I start to write a new Python program I soon realize that I've forgotten it all.
I long ago grew weary of the Python.org tutorial. Perhaps I can find a fresh, new tutorial that doesn't make my eyes glaze over.
Whereas she preferred to drink in such a way that she'd really get into her dance moves, on top of a table while wearing a lamp shade.
One of Nedspace tenants is trading an infinite supply of Kombucha for a hot desk. The guy's into marketing.
Kombucha is sad to be good for your dookies. Us old guys gotta be concerned about stuff like that.
While it's not labeled as an alcoholic beverage, the fermentation puts a little alcohol in it. Just a little.
But that "little" is big enough that I'm now drunk.
At work. ;-)
This particular draft of my bio is what I just submitted to Nedspace's members-only Google Group to introduce myself. For the Team page I'm going to go into more detail about my background in drivers and embedded systems development. Aside from OSX those have both been mostly storage and crypto.
Both the markup and the css are valid yet I'm fucked if I know why my photo isn't to the left of my bio.
And yes, Portland Custom Software Development really has always been a "we" and not just an "I". Rod Schmidt was a schoolmate at the Institute, Blacker House Engineering And Applied Science '83.
Oddly at least at the time Caltech did not offer a Computer Science major.
I have Rod's photo but haven't yet cropped and resized it. He'll write his bio after I'm done writing mine.
I've been spending a lot of time swinging lately. I have a small park across the street from my house and my daughter (now 1.5 years old) could spend all day in the swing. "Outside!", she says to me. "Schwing!" She grabs onto one of my fingers and together we walk across the street to the park. It's adorable.
I've met more of my neighbors in the last 2 months than I have the last 9 years living in my house. There is a woman and her little boy who is 2 who lives on the other side of the park who I run into frequently. There is also a rough looking guy (who is a total softie with his kid) who also has a 2 year old I've run into a couple times. I've been going to the park with my girl to swing almost every night after dinner. It seems to help get all her energy out before bed.
We are still having major sleeping problems. She is still waking up 3-5 times per night. My wife sleeps with her and I sleep alone in the computer room. It's not ideal. We are hoping to get my computer moved somewhere else, and my daughter will take the computer room as her room and I will move back in with my wife. My house is very small, so space is at a premium. I don't want to give up my computer room, but it has to happen. We have been trying to get her room ready for a while now, but it has been really tough to find free time to get it done.
I also have a quick update on my dating life... I've largely quit looking for dates. It takes a lot of effort to get a date and I just don't have the energy. However, last winter I was at an indoor playground and I wound up chatting with a lady. She ended up giving me her business card and I followed up with her. We met again at the indoor playground a couple months later and chatted some more. She has a pretty important job and travels a lot so we haven't been able to meet up since but we have a date scheduled for next week.
She is married and we haven't discussed open marriages or anything like that. I'm not 100% that our meetup next week is a date, but it sure seems like a date to me. I asked if she would meet for drinks, she said yes, I suggested a couple pubs, she countered with a fancy/classy bar downtown. She said that they have live music later in the night, so we are meeting there at 8:30 next friday.
It's going to be interesting. Is it actually a date? Does her husband know? Is she in an open marriage?
Find out in the coming weeks.

Mallorca has been a wild, wild party place since before I joined the Navy. It had a reputation, even then, of "anything goes". If you have the cash, pretty much anything you desire can be yours, for a night at least. The stories allude to the fact that the authorities generally look the other way, and don't get involved.
But, the illegals are changing that:
Taxi drivers say they know of the women as they frequently give them lifts and believe they are raking in around 1,000 euros each a day.
"During the past weekend, 50 to 60 prostitutes approached visitors offering 'full' services for 40 pounds, that is, the standard price they have established. All this is an excuse," it is alleged.
"The real purpose is to approach drunken young people. Prostitutes are specialists in capturing the attention of tourists in the area, cajole them and lead them to some dark alley. Once there, several of the women beat and rob their victims."
British businesses fed-up with the situation have staged a demonstration in Calvia calling for urgent action.
One trader said: "We are fed up with a group of undesirables spoiling our activity season after season."
The organisers say the prostitutes stir up trouble which goes against the long list of "co-existence" rules drawn up by Calvia council. The authority has put up signs in Magaluf and the other nightlife areas warning of 200 euro fines for bad behaviour.
They haven't been able to get official residence papers and as some have children, the only work they can do is prostitution, they added.
Nigeria? I guess the Nigerian princes aren't getting enough action on the internet these days. They have to send their women to the outside world to hustle up some money.
A (very) small number of Soylentils may remember my Rag dog. A couple of the kids had spent the day working on their old POS vehicles. That evening, they came into the house, one of them holding a mostly dirty rag, and wiping his hands on that rag. It still had a couple white corners showing, the rest was a mottled brown and black. Kid asks me if I want a puppy. "No, I don't need a puppy, I'm not going to spend time house breaking and training a puppy, thank you very much." Asshole hands me that damned dirty rag. It wasn't a rag, it was the puppy he was trying to give away. He proceeds to brag up the Australian sheep dog, telling me how great they are, how smart they are, and how loyal, blah blah blah.
Needless to say, I ended up keeping the puppy, and named her Rags. She's a sweet dog. Very quiet, most of the time. She didn't bark for months - literally. It shocked me when she finally let out a deep throated bark at something in the yard, I didn't think she had it in her.
The thing about puppies is, they grow up. Just like kids, they grow up. Rags got out, met some guy she liked, and made some puppies of her own.
So recently, she's been pregnant, then finally had a litter of little rags. And, she's not been eating much. When she does eat, she prefers to snitch some cat food, rather than eat dog food. Or, she sits and begs while we are cooking or eating.
More recently, I've "inherited" a pack of dogs that are basically abandoned. I've sort of shopped for less expensive dog food. I'm not a Wal-Mart shopper, but I've even gone into Wal-Mart to see how expensive their dog food is.
Well, they had a fifty pound bag of Ol' Roy bacon flavored dog food for twenty bucks. Not a super great price, but not bad. I grabbed one. Brought it home, opened it up, and shared some out for all the dogs. Here comes Rags - she's escaped the yard, and run all the way up to where I have the other dogs penned up. And, she bulls her way in to the pack, scarfing up that Ol' Roy bacon flavored dog food.
I'm questioning - does she really like that dog food, or is she just socializing, dog style, and competing for the food like dogs do?
Brought some of that bacon flavor stuff back to the house, put it down for her, and she's still gobbling it up! Yes, the little Mama actually likes the Ol' Roy! She walked around the cat's bowl, and went to her own bowl, to eat it.
Her fat little puppies need lots of milk, so she needs to eat. Looks like I'll be buying WalMart brand dog food from now on.
Bacon. Everything is better with bacon!
Unlike some other brands of dog food, Wal-Mart branded dog food doesn't have a lot of nutritional information. The best analysis available seems to be here: https://www.dogfoodinsider.com/ol-roy-dog-food-review/ Rather low quality food, but if the silly dog eats it, then it's better than high dollar food that she won't eat!
And - BACON!
