UK election 2017: Conservatives 'to fall short of majority'

The Conservatives are set to be the largest party in the UK parliament, but without an overall majority, says the latest BBC forecast. It shows gains for the Labour Party after Thursday's general election.

[...] Prime Minister Theresa May - who had a small majority in the previous parliament - called an early election to try to improve her negotiation positions on Brexit. But analysts say it now appears the PM made a serious miscalculation. The BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg says Mrs May's decision may prove to have been one of the biggest political mistakes of modern times.

U.K. election is TODAY.

This goes out to all my supporters in great, great, Great Britain, and I know there are a lot of you. All my great supporters in England, in Ireland, in Scotland, and in Wales. In part of Wales, I think. In the U.K. Don't forget, today, June 8th, is your election. Very important that you go to your polling centers and vote today. And you've got a lot of choices to choose from. You've got the Conservatives, great name, the Conservatives. But look at what they've done. It's a total disaster. And you've got the BNP, the British National Party. They have some great ideas, the BNP. But the party you need to vote for, to vote for today, is UKIP. Because you voted, last year you voted, to leave the EU. To leave the European Union. And UKIP is the party that will do it right, that will get you out cleanly and completely. Believe me, folks, I've been to Europe and it's not pretty. Been to Brussels. There's carnage going on there and they don't know how to fix it. Don't know how, or won't fix it. And when Europe sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're bringing crime. They're bringing drugs. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. But you've got to pull out, all the way out. And UKIP will pull you right out. Plop! And you'll be out, cleanly. No mess. Nigel Farage is a great fellow, a great chap as you say over there. Like a brother to me. Like a twin brother, an identical twin brother. He's been a tremendous part of my campaign, he's a huge part of why I'm your President. Resigned from leading UKIP so he could join my campaign. And the guy he picked to take his place, Paul Nutall, is great too. Haven't met him, but I heard about him and what I heard is great. Paul understands that torture works. That's something I've always said and it's something that's very important to understand right now. Right now when London Bridge is being attacked, when Manchester is being attacked. And Paul understands it. And he's going to ban veils, ban veils that cover the face. Very important to taking your country back, to taking back your countries (England, Ireland, Scotland, and part of Wales). So you need to make Paul your Prime Minister. And to do that, I'm told, you need a lot of UKIP MPs, lots of UKIP Members of Parliament. So go, get out there and vote them in! Make Britain Great again. And when you're in Scotland, play a round at Turnberry. Beautiful, beautiful course. Great views. #BritainTogether #TrumpResorts

As you know, my daughter, Ivanka, makes shoes in China. I mean, Huajian Group makes them. Beautiful shoes, elegant. They'll make you look like a million bucks. But China is trying to make Ivanka look bad. China Labor Watch, great people, came to check on Huajian Group, keep them honest. Which is what Ivanka wants. What she wants, and what I want. I am the most honest person that you've ever seen in your life, and that's how I've raised my children. Raised them to be honest. But China arrested them, arrested the people from China Labor Watch. Hua Haifeng, Li Zhao and Su Heng. Said they were "taping." "Taping" isn't great, isn't always great. I think every mike should have a light, should have a flashing light, a red light to let me know when it's on. But the "taping" was part of the investigation. And China arrested them, arrested the guys, the great guys, from China Labor Watch. Which makes Ivanka look bad. Makes me look bad. Folks, I would never interfere with an investigation. Nor would Ivanka. I raised her right and neither of us have anything to hide. We would never obstruct an investigation. Believe me. I instructed the State Department, my great, great State Department, instructed them to ask China to release those investigators. But China didn't. So now I'm calling on China myself, as the President of the United States of America: release Hua Haifeng, Li Zhao and Su Heng. Release them all and release them now. #Heroes

Katie McHugh needs your help.

Folks, we all know that Islam is the biggest, biggest danger in the world today. We've seen attacks in Manchester, in Kabul (150+ killed!), in London where they have that awful mayor and on Monday in Orlando. Terrible, terrible attacks. Very sad. Sick. Katie McHugh is a brave lady. She dared to speak the truth about Islam, said what we all know is the truth. "There would be no deadly terror attacks in the U.K. if Muslims didn’t live there." That's what she tweeted. That's exactly what she tweeted. Now she's fired! The very politically correct Breitbart News, where Katie was an editor, fired her for telling the truth. This is how the FAKE MSM treat their own. This is why the MSM is nothing but lies. When journalists dare to tell the truth, they're fired! Katie needs your help. Needs your money. As you know, I've promised to repeal Obamacare. Repeal it and replace it with something much better. Repeal and replace. Have you heard that expression before? I came up with it myself. You're going to love what the American Health Care Act does to the taxes, especially the tax on your investments. Believe me, you'll love it. Totally getting rid of that unfair tax. Waiting on the Senate to pass that. But in the meantime, Katie very unfairly lost her job and she'll be losing her insurance. If she hasn't already lost her medical insurance. Because her insurance was through her job. And they fired her. That means she needs to pay her medical bills and she's asking for donations. Believe me, ladies can "rack up" huge medical bills. Rack up, get it? Because boob jobs cost a lot. When they're done right, they cost a lot. But they're totally worth it. Follow @k_mcq and donate through the link. https://t.co/IRAUOj6pIL

First Amendment group threatens to sue Trump for blocking Twitter users

A legal group has asked Donald Trump to unblock users who have offended him on Twitter, saying that the blocks violate the First Amendment. In a letter, the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University argued that Trump’s Twitter account was a public forum, and banning users from viewing or engaging with his tweets suppresses free speech. “The President must not be allowed to banish views from public discourse simply because he finds them objectionable,” writes Knight Institute executive director Jameel Jaffer. “Having opened this forum to all comers, the President can’t exclude people from it merely because he dislikes what they’re saying.”

YouTube’s most famous PC builder isn’t happy about Intel’s Core i9 (14:30 YouTube video)

AMD Ryzen Threadripper Entry Level 16 Core, 32 Thread Processor To Cost $849 US, X399 Motherboards Expect To Cost A Lot

One of AMD's 16-core Threadripper CPUs is rumored to cost $849 (there may be one or two more expensive 16-core models). Compare to twice that, $1699, for Intel's Core i9-7960X with 16 cores.

AMD's TDPs are a bit lower and they have more PCIe lanes.

Goodbye, Intel.

Hillary was widely predicted to win but Trump is now President. Maybe the reason is because Clinton and Podesta are pro-Disclosure?

The success of Andy Rubin's Essential Phone may depend on carriers

Android Co-Founder Introduces Essential Phone: S835, Slim Bezels, Dual Camera

The hardware inside the Essential PH-1 is what you would expect for a premium phone: Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. It comes with the latest connectivity options too, including 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, NFC, and a Snapdragon X16 LTE modem that makes the phone compatible with all US networks. However, a few items some people find essential are missing; there’s no microSD card support for storage expansion, no support for dual SIMs, and no 3.5mm headphone jack (it will come with an adapter). The 3040 mAh battery, essentially the same capacity as the Galaxy S8’s 3000 mAh pack, should be adequate for most people, but power users will likely find themselves using the Essential’s 27W quick charge feature.

No thanks.

Intel Core i9-7980XE 18-core enthusiast CPU?

UPDATE: Intel Announces 4 to 18-Core Skylake-X CPUs

Previously, rumor had it that Intel would pit 12-core Skylake enthusiast processors against AMD Ryzen chips with up to 16 cores. Now, a new rumor/leak adds 14, 16, and 18 core chips to the Intel lineup. They don't appear to be Xeons either.

This isn't substantial enough for me to make a submission for it, but it's interesting. Of course, while this may be a bit of a slap in the face to AMD, it's not like Intel hasn't made 18-core (Xeon) chips before, and pricing for the 18 core, 36 thread chip could be outrageous (do I hear $2,500?).

$2,500 is just a guess, but I checked and the Intel Xeon E5-2697V4 Broadwell with 18 cores has an RCP of $2,702 and is $2,799.99 on Newegg.

I'll predict $1,250 for an AMD Ryzen 16-core.

report: phished documents were altered before release

A recent investigative study by the Citizen Lab connects Russian actors to the practice of stealing, negatively altering and then releasing documents in an effort to damage the personal reputation of government officials, candidates and journalists in dozens of countries.

SC Magazine

New evidence of a global espionage campaign involving email phishing attacks and leaked falsified documents emerged on Thursday, with clues suggesting the Russian government might have been involved.

[...]

In the incident Citizen Lab examined, documents obtained through a phishing operation in October 2016 that targeted the email account of U.S. journalist David Satter were selectively modified in an apparent attempt to discredit Satter and his work and then posted online. Satter has reported on Russia for decades and was expelled from the country in December 2013.

CBC

On October 7, Satter received a phishing email designed to look like it was coming from Google, claiming someone had stolen his password and that he should change it right away.

As with seen with other phishing attacks targeting people affiliated with the Hillary Clinton campaign that led to the DNC leaks of last year, the email, however, didn't come from Google. It was actually from a group of hackers known as Fancy Bear, or APT28, whom many believe work for Russia's military intelligence, the GRU.

Motherboard

The operation against the journalist led us to the discovery of a larger phishing operation, with over 200 unique targets spanning 39 countries (including members of 28 governments). The list includes a former Russian Prime Minister, members of cabinets from Europe and Eurasia, ambassadors, high ranking military officers, CEOs of energy companies, and members of civil society.

[...] we considered the Tiny.cc shortcodes found in the October 5 and 7 phishing emails sent to David Satter. Using these as a starting point, we enumerated approximately 4000 adjacent shortcodes for each, and then examined the target web addresses to which these short links redirected. From this large list, we extracted all of the associated destination links [...] which redirected to the malicious phishing domain [...]
