Burger King to launch meatless burgers across Europe and test more Impossible burgers in the US

Burger King is doubling down on meatless burgers.

The Restaurant Brands International chain announced on Monday plans to launch a vegetarian burger in more than 20 markets across Europe. The Rebel Whopper, made with patties from Unilever-owned The Vegetarian Butcher, will be available in more than 2,400 European locations Tuesday.

Burger King first launched the Rebel Whopper and another meatless sandwich, the Rebel Chicken King, in Sweden earlier this year.

In the United States, the burger chain will test substituting beef patties with Impossible patties in its Whopper Jr. burgers and signature hamburgers. The company said 180 restaurants in Milwaukee, Cedar Rapids, Augusta, Cincinnati and Buffalo will test the extended Impossible burger line.

Thanks in part to the success of the Impossible Whopper, Burger King's U.S. same-store sales grew by 5% during its third quarter, its largest jump since 2015.

Video shows Hong Kong police officer shooting protester

A Hong Kong police officer was seen on video Sunday night shooting and wounding a protester, whose condition was not immediately known.

Video found on Facebook and reported by The New York Times shows a protester fall to the ground after apparently being struck by at least one shot from a police officer at point-blank range.

Chan Cheuk-hin, a reporter with Cupid News who recorded the footage, told the Times that the man was "semi-conscious" after the shooting.

Man set alight hours after Hong Kong protester shot by police as clashes erupt citywide

A man has been set on fire in Hong Kong only hours after a protester was shot by police with a live round, as the city experiences one of the most dramatic days in over five months of protests.

[...] In a separate incident, a man who confronted a group of pro-democracy protesters was doused in a flammable liquid and set alight, according to a graphic video seen by CNN and widely shared on social media. The video shows an unidentified and unarmed man shouting expletives at protesters before saying "you're all not Chinese."

Convenient Drive Through Service

I heard somewhere that in Law Vegas they now have drive through weddings!

Next idea: drive through divorces!

Now put those two drive through businesses on a circular road connected to a main road. You exit main road, go around the circle as many times as necessary, making stops at whichever drive through(s) you think is/are necessary, before exiting the loop and re-entering the main road again.

A convenient time saving innovative idea.

You could also add a drive through to get pre-nup's.

Jeffrey Epstein and ABC

On Jeffrey Epstein, the ABC news coverup and breaking down of trust of the Mainstream Media

There has been lots of talk recently about distrust of the mainstream media, where rather than pursuing facts and the truth, they are accused of pursuing 'narratives' instead (i.e. what their billionaire owners, and the 0.1% class want you to hear / distract us with, rather than what is actually important or the facts in society today).

There are many examples of this : i.e. to this day Julian Assange is still referred to as an 'accused rapist' when mostpeople know that this is made up, and the real issue was that he embarrassed the US government.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-48253343

Or Edward Snowden is a criminal rather than a whistleblower for unveiling that the US government was tapping into telephone fibers in the United States and spying on its own citizens
https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-politics-23141922/snowden-criminal-not-whistleblower

Or that there is a 'shortage' of programmers in the United States, so we need to hand out visas like candy to H1-Bs, when everyone in the industry knows it is really about replacing Americans with cheaper labor
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-08/demand-for-programmers-hits-full-boil-as-u-s-job-market-simmers

Or that that the focus on migration is on raids on Mexican woman and kids, rather than arresting the CEOs who run companies employing them illegally to start with (why isn't the CEO of this company in jail, and why doesn't any media ask this?)
https://www.foxnews.com/us/chicken-plants-raided-by-ice-willfully-and-unlawfully-hired-unauthorized-workers-court-documents

It feels that mainstream news is more and more becoming like the 'Pravda' of the old USSR, where dictated 'narrative' written by the 0.1% supercedes facts and the full truth. It seems to happening more and more often these days, across all media outlets in this country. It is obvious when it happens, and makes the news painful to read as the narrative so often makes no sense anymore, as they try to 'twist' it into fake 'facts'.

And now there is Jeffrey Epstein..

This is the "Snowden reveals USA spies on you with taps in the fiber" moment.. Yes, there are conspiracy theories (which this is trying to be dismissed as), and then there are full blown coverups (which this actually is). Epstein supposedly preposterously managed to "commit suicide" in a high security prison. First the coroner indicated that it was a murder, then suddenly it was a 'suicide'. Reddit made jokes the whole way of this 'investigation' saying that the guards will be found to be 'asleep', the video system will be found to be 'broken'... and then all this 'happened', just as they said it would...

https://www.reddit.com/r/Epstein/

Now it may be surprising enough, that Epstein, (who is regarded as a 'financier', when really he was nothing such either - he was just pimping girls to very very rich people, and had set up a whole system and brothel (the 'Lolita Express' airliner jet, the private sex island..etc) to make his living with this) got away with this for years, but the bigger surprise is how the mainstream media went at light speed to promote the 'suicide' story, and then bury the whole thing as fast as possible, as Bill Clinton, members of the British Royal family, and hosts of other 0.1%'ers were found to have visited that island or had sex with girls there.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/16/nyregion/jeffrey-epstein-autopsy-results.html

And as we suspected all along, no one was actually buying this 'suicide', not even the news reporters at major news organizations like ABC, who actually were gagged on reporting the truth while their bosses where spewing the 'narrative'.
https://www.businessinsider.com/amy-robach-abc-hot-mic-epstein-murdered-network-killed-story-2019-11

And then there is this, Sinclair group owns a ton of TV stations in the USA...the owner literally dictated what the news casters should say..word for word, or not, to TVs all across the country as 'truth'... creepy as hell.. it doesn't get more Orwellian than this... and its real...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxtkvG1JnPk

This country no longer has free media. They claim that they want us to subscribe to their 'news', when it is nothing such.. It is narrative, paid for by billionaires for our consumption and to use us.

Why do we get daily articles on how big some Kardassian's butt is rather than daily articles on how bad inequality has gotten in this country, or why healthcare sucks while CEOs are getting rich on sick people, or how the middle class has been gutted by billionaires buying laws in congress (with specific names of people behind these 'think tanks' doing the corruption and law buying). The press in this country, which used to be a pillar of our democracy, has been totally and utterly corrupted, and is not worth listening to. The 'news' is mostly fake. Some papers are better (The Epoch Times, is probably the best I found so far though it too leaves a lot to be desired).

Why should we trust the mainstream media for anything anymore? And where can we go to find actual news based on 'facts' and 'truth' rather than 'narrative' and 'stories' made to distract us from the real issues in society, and the corruption and rot that now seems to have take over things so badly that anyone can be 'suicided' at will, and it becomes... 'the truth'.?

CBS News fires staffer who had access to leaked Amy Robach audio

CBS News has fired a female staffer believed to have had access to the tape of Amy Robach raging against ABC News, Page Six understands.

We reported on Wednesday that ABC News chiefs discovered a former employee could be behind the leak of the damning footage of Robach slamming the network for shelving her interview with Jeffrey Epstein’s “sex slave” Virginia Roberts Giuffre. Sources told Page Six that a former staffer had access to the footage of Robach as she aired her frustrations over a hot mike — and that employee was now believed to be working at CBS.

A TV source told us later on Wednesday that the woman was let go from CBS, after ABC execs alerted the rival network.

ABC sources confirmed to us that they’d informed counterparts at CBS about the staffer “as a courtesy.”

Trump admits to stealing from charity, must pay $2 million

President Donald Trump must personally pay $2 million in fines because he illegally used his charity to benefit his 2016 candidacy. A state judge in New York delivered the judgment on Thursday afternoon. The judicially-assessed penalty must be paid to a number of nonprofit organizations in the Empire State.

A press release from New York Attorney General Letitia James notes the general contours of the settlement:

[James] announced that her office entered into multiple stipulations with the Trump Foundation and its directors to resolve the remaining claims in the lawsuit. Chiefly, Mr. Trump admits to personally misusing funds at the Trump Foundation, and agrees to restrictions on future charitable service and ongoing reporting to the Office of the Attorney General in the event he creates a new charity. The settlements also include mandatory training requirements for Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump.

Devin Nunes vs. Free Speech (and a fake cow)

Rep. Devin Nunes remains super angry about a satirical internet cow. Earlier this year, we wrote about his lawsuit against the satirical cow on Twitter (and against Twitter itself) as well as a bunch of other lawsuits Nunes has been filing against critics in the intervening months. The cases appear to be fairly obvious SLAPP lawsuits; that is lawsuits that are designed solely to silence critics, rather than based on any legitimate legal basis. As we've noted, the venues in which Nunes has focused his lawsuits (mostly Virginia, and now Iowa) have either weak or non-existent anti-SLAPP laws. Tragically, the original case, against two satirical Twitter accounts, including one called "Devin Nunes' Cow" (a satirical reference to Nunes' oft-repeated claim of being a California dairy farmer, even as his family farm has uprooted itself to Iowa) was not thrown out by the judge on jurisdictional grounds, allowing the case to move forward.

According to the Fresno Bee, however, even as that lawsuit is ongoing, Nunes' lawyer in the case has sent a threatening demand letter to Andrew Janz, a lawyer and state prosecutor who ran against Nunes in the last election and lost (much more narrowly than many people seemed to expect). The full letter is truly a piece of work, demanding Janz make the @DevinCow account stop making fun of Devin Nunes and issue an apology.

"I will never start one of those Ari-style public displays on the site"

Edited portion of https://logs.sylnt.us/%23soylent/2019-11-02.html chat.soylent IRC logs, with commentary by your's truly.

[15:49:14] {janrinok} Runaway1956, you think your subs are tech related? You must be joking
[15:50:23] {janrinok} Two of them are about Impeachment - what on earth do you see as the related 'tech' in those stories?
[15:51:35] {Runaway1956} Lemme look - Waymo, reaction engines, GDPR fines, Google, Greta thunberg, neanterthals, spider web rot, Google antitrust, Indian court vs youtube, facebook and Twitter, Google manipulating elections,
[15:51:43] {Runaway1956} those all look kinda techie to me
[15:52:21] {janrinok} ...but not the impeachment stories...
[15:52:37] {Runaway1956} How many impeachment stories are there again?
[15:52:40] {janrinok} 2
[15:52:55] {Runaway1956} two out of how many?
[15:53:03] {Runaway1956} Come on, Jan
[15:53:23] {janrinok} oh, you are only counting today's stories. Let me go back and count - grin
[15:53:35] * Runaway1956 smiles
[15:54:03] {Runaway1956} please bring the results back as a percentage of all submissions
[15:54:19] {janrinok} you even claimed last weekend that you were posting subs to counter Ari's subs. Well, they will all get treated just the same
[15:54:49] {Runaway1956} I hope so - leave my subs that counter his up just as long as his remain in the queue
[15:55:16] {janrinok} not my call alone
[15:55:51] {Runaway1956} What? You mean, it's alright to leave his ridiculous subs up to be browsed, but mine have to come down?
[15:56:40] {Runaway1956} I kinda make it a point to put a policital story up to counter Altstarchus subs

Now there is a need for a #FreeRunaway!!! hashtag. Get on it, Soylentils! Speak up against the repression of free speech!

[15:57:04] {FatPhil} alternatively, you could both just desist.
[15:57:15] {Runaway1956} I would go along with that
[15:57:16] {janrinok} No, as soon as enough editors have made their decision then we act. And some are just so fed up with crap submissions they do not even bother to comment on them.
[15:57:48] {Bytram} in general, either one editor or another will take a story sub that interests them, o/w it sits in the queue for about a week to make sure everyone has a chance to select it (if they want).
[15:57:59] {Bytram} and what janrinok said
[15:58:07] {FatPhil} the US is only 4% of the world, the rest of the world might just be getting bored with your idiotic in-fighting.
[15:58:17] {Bytram} if it sits there for over a week or so, then it gets declined to clean things up
[15:59:05] {Runaway1956} I agree with most of what has been said here - have no problems with any of it
[15:59:34] {Runaway1956} but I'll observe that Altstarchus subs often sit there, while my own pol subs come down
[15:59:47] {Runaway1956} his shouldn't sit there for a week, if mine come down in ten minutes

Wherein Runaway1956 discovers life is not fair.

[16:00:08] {janrinok} what does it matter how many crap subs from someone there are in the sub queue - why do you feel the need to 'counter' them? They are not released and are not viewed as representing the interests of our community.
[16:01:11] {Runaway1956} they sit there, available to be browsed, and the do reflect on SN - someone unfamiliar with the site might expect that subs in the queue WILL BE published to the front page
[16:01:37] {janrinok} do you need to counter Spam or any other kind of subs that will get rejected. Or do you think that your own political war with Ari is what this site is about? Put your counter subs in your journal!
[16:02:12] {Runaway1956} lol - I feel so special, to be singled out here
[16:02:46] {janrinok} You are not here to police the subs queue. If you want to volunteer to help out do so, but filling the queue with more rubbish does not make our job any easier.
[16:04:12] {Runaway1956} I don't think I should volunteer, because I'd probably delete every Altstarchus sub the moment they appeared - unless he accidentally made a good sub
[16:04:24] {janrinok} You are not <del>be</del> <b>being</b> singled out - other than Ari who else does the same thing?

[16:05:58] {janrinok} If you immediately deleted any of Ari's subs then you would be doing what we have promised NOT to do - you would be allowing your political bias to affect your choice of stories. You will find that Ari has 2 stories published this weekend.
[16:06:57] {Bytram} janrinok++
[16:06:57] {Bender} karma - janrinok: 60
[16:07:36] {Runaway1956} Sorry, with Ari, it isn't a political bias - the bias is against childish wankers who believe that they can control both SN and the site's political leanings
[16:08:06] {Runaway1956} I disagree with several people here, politically, but we don't get into big shitfests over it
[16:08:28] {janrinok} his subs don't get accepted if they are rubbish. How are they controlling the site. The only person Ari is controlling is you by making you react to everything he does.
[16:08:58] {Runaway1956} Nahhhhh, he isn't controlling me, I'm goading the big dummy
[16:09:06] {Sulla} janrinok++
[16:09:06] {Bender} karma - janrinok: 61
[16:09:20] {janrinok} er, he is goading you, but you are too stupid to see it

Oh, dear! Let truth and justice flow like a deluge from the heavens!

[16:09:21] {Runaway1956} he makes idiot noises, I poke him, he whines
[16:09:50] {Runaway1956} You are, of course, entitled to your view of the process, and your opinion, as well as your political views
[16:11:40] {janrinok} which is precisely why I pointed out that your stories are not predominantly tech related. Many are, and most of those get accepted. But if you follow Ari lead or you respond to his goading then you will find your sub acceptance rate mirroring his - something less than 10% at the moment. Is that how you want to be known on this site?
[16:12:55] {Runaway1956} So, uhhh, you appear to be saying that if I make another pol sub, you'll punish me by rejecting tech-related stories as well?
[16:13:02] {Runaway1956} Surely not
[16:13:37] {Runaway1956} Ifully expect my pol stories to be rejected, but all other stories to be accepted or rejected on their own merits
[16:13:40] {Sulla} What was the point of the greta sub?
[16:13:53] {janrinok} no, but if you keep putting your crap in the sub queue 'to counter Ari's then your acceptance rate will fall quickly
[16:14:31] {Runaway1956} Greta is trying so hard to make a statement, and failing - not to mention she is being used

Takeaway on Runaway: he is being used and does not realize when his "tech" subs are actually political dogwhistles. Sad, really.

[16:15:35] {Runaway1956} acceptance rate - kinda like karma, then?

You have no idea, Runaway! I would be 5th on the Hall of Fame for submitters, if rejections counted! I think, maybe not, since we don't publicize rejections.

[16:17:22] {Sulla} Used or not she believes what she says, and its probably hard on her that she has no way to get home according to her own convictions
[16:17:28] {Sulla} feels like kicking a dog
[16:18:56] {Runaway1956} I can empathize with the girl, to some extent, but she HAS made a public figure of herself
[16:19:55] {Runaway1956} I've been stranded far from home, but I didn't invite public scrutiny of myself when I was stranded
[16:20:46] {Runaway1956} Now, maybe someone can explain something to me
[16:21:20] {Runaway1956} How much trouble is it to click a "reject" button, or whatever you guys do to get a sub off the qeue?
[16:22:02] {Bytram} has she no parents to assist her? Or is it that in order to get home she'd need to take a plane and then run afoul of using high carbon when she so espoused using less?
[16:22:34] {janrinok} Runaway1956, none whatsoever - but now you are asking that we leave your subs up as long as Ari's otherwise you will complain.
[16:24:12] {Runaway1956} Jan, I might cry a little here, on IRC, but you may be assured that I will never start one of those Ari-style public displays on the site.
[16:24:28] {Bytram} I'll be quite frank that when the story queue runs low/out, let's just say I do not look to a sub from him as being something I can just quickly review and push out like I could with, say, takyon
[16:24:46] {Runaway1956} But, you will admit that if you are treating Altstarchus differntly than other people, then something is not right in Rightsville
[16:26:13] {chromas} At least 99% of his subs are just shitposts

At least one editor love me! Thanks, Chromas! Now keep those Runaway shitposts up just as long, so SoylentNews can be fair and balanced, like that other "Fair and Balanced" news source!

[16:26:36] {janrinok} No - I have categorically stated that we wait until enough editors have had the chance to read his submissions. Then we act if nobody is interested. Yours are there to 'counter' his by your own admission.
[16:26:52] {Runaway1956} Ari can take a bullet-proof article, that would appeal to almost all of us, and totally fuck it up

[16:26:55] {Sulla} From a QA standpoint if i have a machine that does 98% accuracy and a machine that has 10% accuracy i am more likely to miss a bad part coming from the first than a good post from the second

[16:27:30] {chromas} Runaway1956: in that case, usually someone just strips out his commentary and stuff
[16:28:21] {Runaway1956} - I don't mean to be a pain in your ass - but it is kinda fun too, LOL
[16:29:14] * Runaway1956 looks aorund to see if he has a reputation stalking him
[16:31:00] {chromas} !karma Runaway1956
[16:31:00] {Bender} karma of runaway1956 is 16
[16:31:09] {chromas} Not much of one yet
[16:31:20] {Sulla} !karma chromas
[16:31:24] * chromas herps
[16:31:35] {Runaway1956} lol

Who would think that whining in IRC, with public logs, is not a public tantrum? I have to agree with some of the eds that mimicking aristarchus is probably not an effective tactic, and in fact could be exactly what I was aiming at getting some lesser intellect of the Trumper-base to attempt. Mission accomplished? But Runaway does not have the nuance or subtlety to pull it off. So maybe not.

The only solution is to recognize the political bias of "tech", the things that coders, gamers, "Software Engineers", and the Pay-pal Mafia are woefully unaware of in their political views that are in fact reactionary, conservative, and even fascistic. Not saying they should be censored or deplatformed, but only that they be honest. If that were done, aristarchus submissions would no longer be necessary. Of course, this has nothing to do with Runaway, who is just a rednecked country bumpkin who discovered the internets from an AOL CD, but at least runs Linux.
