The "neatly split" congress is a necessity

Slim margins of legislative victory bring compromise and gridlock which the leadershiop[sic] don't really oppose.

It isn’t incompetence that keeps the democrats from fully realizing their political power. The terrible truth is that they prefer horse trading over the issues of importance to their donor class than they do meeting the needs of the people...

They are always on the side of their donor class and that is why the national leadership aren’t very concerned when republicans control state capitals. They will actually take a dive and then use their own corruption as a fundraising tool, pointing fingers at the republicans they have declared villains while secretly hoping they have to share power with them...

Warnock should have been further ahead but close races are guaranteed when there is no minimum wage increase while inflation runs rampant...

Why are margins so close in the House and the Senate when the people prefer what democrats claim to offer? The democrats are the ultimate cynics. They know what the people want and campaign accordingly, but once in office use the senate parliamentarian, arcane rules, or the bad cops among them to say that their hands are tied.

Just another day...

Nala: A Beautiful and Structured Frontend for APT command

Do you still ignore the required dependencies and autoremove packages while installing the new application on Linux?

Initially, you take note of application dependencies and packages going to be wiped out from your system, but with time, we procrastinate due to the ugly interface of the apt command, which shows package names in the monotone format, and for this reason, you need to stare at the screen to know what step is being performed now.

For example, if I install git from the default apt package manager, and the same command is installed from nala package manager, then you can clearly see the difference from the side-by-side comparison.

And if I ask you, which output looks much more concise and unambiguous? You would simply answer, “The nala version of the command is much more concise and unambiguous.”

So, let’s learn how to install nala package manager on Ubuntu and other derivatives of Debian-based Linux distributions, which means you can follow the same steps if you have Linux Mint, Pop!_OS, Debian 11 (Buster), etc.

https://trendoceans.com/nala-package-manager/

Yes, it really is faster than other APT frontends. No need to install apt-fast anymore, especially since apt-fast is mostly deprecated. It's prettier. Not just prettier, but easier to read. It's far more informative.

The article suggests 3 methods to install nala, I just did apt install nala. Try your own distro's repositories before you follow the other methods.

Best of all, it looks like there is no real learning curve - if you're familiar with apt, apt-get, or apt-fast, you'll use mostly the same commands and arguments with nala.

Did I say fast? Even with my new 100 meg internet connection, I would expect 900 mb of downloads to take a few minutes with apt. Nala fetch found the fastest repositories for me, saved those repositories to it's configuration, then when I did nala upgrade, it downloaded files in parallel. It was as fast, if not faster than, apt-fast.

I think it's pretty awesome. If anyone thinks otherwise, I'll be watching for comments below!

Tulsi Gabbard Continues to Cause Problems Within the Democrat Party After Leaving It
By Brandon Morse | 3:45 PM on October 13, 2022

Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard haunts the Democrat Party and it would appear that her exit is causing issues to arise within the voter base. Not only does her shadow follow Kamala Harris, but it’s also now starting to threaten AOC who recently was shouted down at her own town hall for not following Gabbard’s example with the Ukraine war.

It would appear that Gabbard’s effect on the party is only growing despite the DNC’s best efforts to unperson her. Let’s talk about it more in my latest video.

my DUHH moment with bittorrent EDITED

Well, we've had bittorrent in our home for - a long, long time. Search for a movie or something, start it downloading, and come back tomorrow to watch the movie. Nothing exciting, just file sharing.

With the upgrade to fiber, we expected to see amazing download and upload speeds. Mehhh - instead speeds were mostly still measured in k per second, sometimes reaching 1 or 2 M/s. Somewhat awesome to most members of the household, but, FFS, we now have fast internet! Where's my 100 meg?

I diddled around with it for awhile yesterday. Yes, of course we run BT on a VPN. Yes, of course I've gone through BT settings, and optimized according to guides available on the internet. Multiple times, actually.

Finally stumbled over the fact that I must REQUEST port forwarding from the VPN. Oh. Well. How do I do that? Check VPN settings, and right there all the time, is a setting, "Request Port Forwarding". Now, why didn't I give any thought to that setting? Click the box, and find that I'm limited to just a few servers. My "favorite" VPN server doesn't offer port forwarding. That's alright though, I don't really have a favorite, I always choose the fastest.

So, reconnect to a server with port forwarding, I'm assigned a port for port forwarding, and I go back into Bittorrent settings. I assign the listening port to match what VPN has assigned me, and BOOM!

Download speed jumped to 15M , and upload speed to 12M.

Speeds fluctuate, of course, depending on a whole lot of things, mostly the health of the torrent, and however the algorithms decide to connect seeds and peers. I've seen speeds dip to zero while I was watching, and I've seen the above mentioned speeds. It's entirely possible that Bittorrent actualy consumes all of my bandwidth from time to time. I suppose I should go back into settings, and cap speeds at 20 or 30 meg - but I'll just leave it at infinite for awhile, and see what happens.

THIS is what I was expecting when I subscribed to fiber internet. It only took me a couple weeks to figure out how to make it work.

EDIT

OK, bittorrent can be made almost unusable, with the use of fake downloaders. I've always seen them. At the bottom of the list of connected clients page, you'll see a bunch of bitstorm clients. They don't actually download or upload anything, they just keep your client busy with pointless connections. That, and bitlord. Both clients are ancient, no one with a lick of sense uses them to actually torrent.

Several searches, and I finally found a link pointing at https://github.com/c0re100/qBittorrent-Enhanced-Edition

Features:
Auto Ban Xunlei, QQ, Baidu, Xfplay, DLBT and Offline downloader

Auto Ban Unknown Peer from China Option (Default: OFF)

Auto Update Public Trackers List (Default: OFF)

Auto Ban BitTorrent Media Player Peer Option (Default: OFF)

Peer whitelist/blacklist

It works as advertised. All those bitstorm clients are gone, and I'm left with lists of clients actually performing the tasks that bittorrent was meant to do.

I highly recommend this client, if you torrent.

Mass shooting - by Denver Police

I hear it time and again - call 911, wait for the police, the police are trained, the police have skills that you don't have, there is no need to carry a weapon to defend yourself, trust the police. Watch the video, (age restricted, maybe safe for work, no real blood and gore that I can see) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfAHfWr6vvA titled "Denver police body camera footage shows officers shoot gunman, six bystanders in LoDo".

Yeah, that's a killer of a title, right? Six shots fired, seven people wounded, only one of whom was considered a suspect. Awesome, huh?

Story is elaborated here, https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/video-shows-denver-cops-wound-six-bystanders-in-addition-to-the-bad-guy-out-of-six-rounds-fired/

Denver police officers faced an armed bad guy who drew down on them in the midst of a busy bar crowd at 1:35 a.m. The cops engaged, firing their sidearms, scoring seven hits out of six rounds fired. That represents a remarkable 117% hit rate. The only problem is that six of the seven people who were wounded soaked up rounds meant for the bad guy.

They surely don’t appreciate DPD’s marksmanship skilles, or lack thereof.

Yes, there’s that pesky fourth rule of gun safety: Know your target and what’s beyond it. For the record, that even applies to the staple guns you’re using to put up your targets at the range. But for good guys everywhere, firing anything except carefully controlled shots at a bad actor who’s surrounded by innocents could probably be described more as negligence than exigence.

Maybe Denver Police should hire a guy like Elisjsha Dicken to coach them up on their marksmanship skills. He’s the guy without any formal training who took down a rifle-toting lunatic shooting people in a crowded mall in Indiana. Dicken scored eight hits out of ten shots fired, wounding no innocents by mistake, at up to 40 yards away.

Here’s the dirty laundry on the horrific incident from the Denver Post.

Denver police on Tuesday released surveillance video and body camera footage of three officers shooting an armed man and injuring six innocent bystanders outside busy downtown bars on July 17.

The videos for the first time show from start to finish the shooting, which will be investigated by a grand jury. Denver police officials previously made public still images they selected from the videos but denied public records requests by The Denver Post and other news outlets to release the videos in their entirety…

Denver police previously said Waddy was holding the gun by the slide on the top when the officers fired. It’s not clear if Waddy could have fired the gun while holding it that way, Cmdr. Matt Clark said at a July 20 news conference. He said the officers believed the muzzle of the gun pointed at them as Waddy pulled it out.

Two officers shot a combined five rounds while facing Waddy with the front wall of Larimer Beer Hall behind him. A third officer fired one round from Waddy’s right side and a crowd of people is visible behind Waddy in the officer’s body camera footage.

“The Department of Safety and Denver Police Department remain concerned about the health and well-being of those who were injured in this incident and will continue to offer support to aid in their healing,” the departments said in a joint statement Tuesday.

Maybe Denver’s police need to spend more time on the fundamentals of handgun safety and marksmanship and less in “woke” racial/implicit bias training.

Denver post article here https://www.denverpost.com/2022/08/16/denver-police-lodo-shooting-video/

I think this is the exact same video, there may be some minor differences. https://youtu.be/BfAHfWr6vvA

Oh yeah. Definition of a mass shooting varies from one source to another. Here we have 4 or more innocents injured as the result of a single incident. I'll call it a mass shooting, despite the fact that no one died. Well, I'll call it that this time. But I'll call out the lame stream media all the same when they inappropriately designate the next shooting as a mass shooting.

Don't you wish you lived in the city of Denver, where you can trust the highly trained cops to protect you from bad guys?

Oh - one more thing.

Did Mr. Waddy actually assault anyone, or not? This looks a lot like a "Nigga wid a gun" situation. It does NOT appear that Mr. Waddy pointed, aimed, or otherwise attempted to use his weapon - it appears that he was holding it by the slide, and tossing it away from himself, when he was struck by the first shot. "Nigga wid a gun! BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG" no questions asked.

How to botch a case: an FBI tutorial

The privacy invasion was vast when FBI agents drilled and pried their way into 1,400 safe-deposit boxes at the U.S. Private Vaults store in Beverly Hills.

They rummaged through personal belongings of a jazz saxophone player, an interior designer, a retired doctor, a flooring contractor, two Century City lawyers and hundreds of others.

Agents took photos and videos of pay stubs, password lists, credit cards, a prenuptial agreement, immigration and vaccination records, bank statements, heirlooms and a will, court records show. In one box, agents found cremated human remains...

Let's cut to the chase

In the raid's aftermath, the criminal case against U.S. Private Vaults sputtered to an end with nobody sent to prison.

The company went out of business. It was sentenced to pay a $1.1-million fine for laundering drug money, but prosecutors conceded it lacked the means to pay it.

Under a plea deal [*sigh*], the U.S. attorney's office agreed not to prosecute the company’s owners, despite a Justice Department policy under Atty. Gen. Merrick Garland [who?] to hold individuals accountable for corporate wrongdoing -- and despite Zellhart telling Kim it was "owned and managed by criminals."

No, really, the chase has an ending, minus the part where perjury charges are filed...

Prosecutors falsely accused the man of fraud, racketeering, conspiracy, drug trafficking and money laundering. FBI agent Madison MacDonald — who co-authored the raid plan — filed a sworn statement saying the allegations were true.... On March 9, nearly a year after the FBI seized the man's [documents] cash and gold, Scarsi ordered the government to give it back.

Gee, I hope we don't see a repeat.. I mean, the FBI? Lying? Can't believe it, not the FBI.

The following is a preemptive shhh!:

Please note that the ball starting rolling in 2015. I forget who was president then, but let's just agree that it doesn't make a bit of difference

Press blames republicans.. again

Ah well, who cares... it's not going to affect reelection rates, and it might not have been a very good bill anyway. "Dark money" is bipartisan

EDIT:

Heard Biden say on the radio today:

"Just give me two more democratic senators in the United States senate, and I promise ya, I promise ya, we'll codify..."

Uh huh... that will require killing the filibuster.. the Party will find two more to balk, like they did when they had a nine point advantage in 2009

The migrants to Martha's Vineyard were launched from a military base in San Antonio:

Q: And I'll ask you another one quickly, if you don't mind, about, there are some report of tracking -- flight-tracking software of some of these flights that the government of Florida operated taking migrants from the San Antonio area to Martha's Vineyard. There are some fight -- flight-tracking sites that showed that the planes originally took off from Kelly Field at Joint Base Lackland, and I'm wondering if the Pentagon is investigating whether Kelly Field was used to fly migrants, and if there is anything that's being done to look into future uses of Kelly Field or other Defense Department installations in some of these state actions in immigration.

GEN. RYDER: I don't have any information to provide on Kelly Field. I am aware of the migrants that have been brought to Massachusetts, as you highlight...

Uh huh...

So... what did the president know, and when did he know it?

ARGLE BARGLE RAR! Lefties are BIG MAD about DeSantis flying illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard and HERE are some of the biggest tantrums
Posted at 9:11 am on September 15, 2022 by Sam Janney

For DECADES, Democrats and Lefties have been calling anyone and everyone who wants our southern border secured, ‘racists,’ ‘xenophobes,’ ‘haters,’ ‘white nationalists,’ etc. How dare people who are actually impacted by the MILLIONS of illegal immigrants walking (yes, walking, Karine Jean-Pierre) across the border ask that something be done?!

Welp, if our pals on the Left think our sieve of a border is AOK, or even secure, then it’s about time they put up or shut up.

But this is more like what we’re seeing from them after hearing about DeSantis flying illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard (and Abbott sending them to Kamala’s HOUSE).

But they said they SUPPORT illegal immigrants. What’s the dealio?

It’s deeply deeply sick and dehumanizing to fly illegal immigrants to a gorgeous part of our country? A part of the country they likely want to go to? Really Chris?

Eric Swalwell is also really fussy.

Rep. Eric Swalwell
@RepSwalwell
Does America face a migration issue at our border because of poor economic and security conditions in countries south of us? Of course.

Should we exploit that crisis by using desperate humans as political pawns. Hell no. This is so sick. It takes a soulless man to do this.

Ummm … what? Democrats do nothing BUT use illegal immigrants as political pawns. Remember when a bunch of them went down to a detention center? AOC wept? Funny how that concern all went away once Trump was out of office.

Almost as if they were being used as POLITICAL PAWNS.

Doorknobs.

Oh, and speaking of doorknobs:

Chip Franklin.com
@chipfranklin
I don't get it, maybe because I'm not a Republican: Can someone explain to me how spending money to ship two plane loads of immigrants all the way for Martha's Vineyard on the taxpayer's dime, all so one man can go viral on Twitter for a few hours, is "fiscally conservative"?

Willing to bet two plane rides is a HELLUVA lot cheaper than putting more people on Florida’s welfare services longterm, Chip.

Click the links, and follow the links within the links.

These disgusting human beings are all for immigration, right up until they meet an immigrant. While Arizona, New Mexico and Texas are deluged by thousands daily, these privileged white assholes from Martha's Vineyard are SHOCKED that a mere hundred immigrants have been flown to THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD!! NIMBY!!

If we could build an immigrant pipeline straight from the border to all of the contiguous continental state's capitols, along with Washington, D.C, the border would be secured in months. Imagine, 10,000 illegal aliens arriving in front of the White House, EVERY MONTH!! That is what the southern border states are dealing with.

“At some point, they have to move from here to somewhere else... We don’t have the services to take care of 50 immigrants…we don’t have housing for 50 more people.". Have I already mentioned NIMBY? The woman obviously thinks that the border states have the room, have the housing, have the services to provide for these people. Just dump them all on the border states, and on red states, and hillbilly states, because, we, the elite, won't tolerate a bunch of raggedy illegals on our island!!
