Pro-Trump social network becomes safe haven for ISIS
Just weeks after its launch, the pro-Trump social network GETTR is inundated with terrorist propaganda spread by supporters of Islamic State, according to a POLITICO review of online activity on the fledgling platform.
The social network — started a month ago by members of former President Donald Trump’s inner circle — features reams of jihadi-related material, including graphic videos of beheadings, viral memes that promote violence against the West and even memes of a militant executing Trump in an orange jumpsuit similar to those used in Guantanamo Bay.
The rapid proliferation of such material is placing GETTR in the awkward position of providing a safe haven for jihadi extremists online as it attempts to establish itself as a free speech MAGA-alternative to sites like Facebook and Twitter.
...
Islamic State “has been very quick to exploit GETTR,” said Moustafa Ayad, executive director for Africa, the Middle East and Asia at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, a think tank that tracks online extremism, who first discovered the jihadi accounts and shared his findings with POLITICO.“On Facebook, there was on one of these accounts that I follow that is known to be Islamic State, which said ‘Oh, Trump announced his new platform. Inshallah, all the mujahideen will exploit that platform,’” he added. “The next day, there were at least 15 accounts on GETTR that were Islamic State.”
...
So far, GETTR has been the highest-profile pro-Trump platform launch, given the names behind it: Jason Miller, former Trump spokesperson, is its chief executive, and the site is partially funded by Miles Guo, the business partner of former Trump advisor Steve Bannon.
...
Days after GETTR was launched on July 1, Islamic State supporters began urging their followers on other social networks to sign up to the pro-Trump network, in part to take the jihadi fight directly to MAGA nation.“If this app reaches the expected success, which is mostly probable, it should be adopted by followers and occupied in order to regain the glory of Twitter, may God prevail,” one Islamic State account on Facebook wrote on July 6.
...
Larger platforms like Facebook and Twitter now work via the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism, an industry-funded nonprofit which shares terrorist content between companies — via a database of extremist material accessible to its members — so that the material can be taken down as quickly as possible.GETTR has yet to sign up.
So... whatcha gonna say?
Samsung Developing 24Gb DDR5 ICs: 768GB DDR5 Modules Possible
Samsung said this week that it is developing 24Gb DDR5 memory devices at the request of its customers that operate cloud datacenters. Such ICs will enable the company to build memory modules of up to 768GB capacity for servers as well as high-capacity memory solutions for client PCs. In addition, Samsung disclosed some peculiarities about its DRAM technology which uses extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography.
[...] For client applications usage of 24Gb memory chips instead of 16Gb ICs could increase memory module capacity by 50%, so expect 24GB and 48GB DDR5 modules at some point. Meanwhile, Samsung notes that for the time being 16Gb DDR5 devices will be mainstream, so even if 24Gb devices will be used for client applications, do not expect them too soon.

Parts of Italy, Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania, Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece are all ready to get baked by the extreme and dry heatwave. High-resolution model guidance is clear with a good agreement of peak daytime temperatures approaching the mid-40s during the hottest days.
So, according to my expectations in regards with "America - the alien planet", Jan 6 and GOP in tatters, cost of heath care and COVID chewing its way through the unvaccinated is no longer in the WTF category, it became "business as usual".
This one however still falls into WTF.
Tiffany Walker was so happy and proud of her brand new 2020 Ford Escape when she bought it in December. It looked perfectly fine when she dropped it off at Tomball Ford for the first oil change and some warranty work. But when she saw it again, the vehicle was a total loss.
“I was shocked,” said Walker. “I couldn’t believe it. And then I immediately became angry.”
Walker said Tomball Ford employees were defensive, telling her while their mechanic was driving the vehicle during some repairs another driver failed to yield the right of way. That driver turned in front of the mechanic causing him to hit her vehicle. The police report supports that and assigns all blame to the other driver.
...
The dealership is adamant the other driver’s insurance, Allstate, should pay for the damage. But Allstate says its client is only 70% liable. Allstate believes Tomball Ford’s mechanic is 30% responsible, claiming he could have avoided hitting the other driver but was likely speeding or distracted.
...
Tomball Ford did provide Walker with a rental car for three weeks. But when they asked her to turn it in, they were still battling Allstate, leaving Walker with no vehicle, no down payment, no settlement money and a car loan she still has to pay.
...
“She’s not liable at all because she wasn’t driving the car,” said attorney Ryan Marquez, with the University of Houston Center for Consumer Law.Marquez said while it doesn’t seem fair, Walker’s best option might be to file with her own insurance, get her money and let them go after Tomball Ford.
...
Tomball Ford’s general manager wouldn’t talk with Davis on camera but he told her it is an unfortunate incident but the dealership is absolutely not at fault.
What I see - two small fry people trying to survive financially after letting the insurance companies having the role of arbiter.
And I don't want to infer anything about their idea on rights, freedom, liberty or whatevs.
Intel teases plan to speed up chip advancements
Intel has struggled recently with getting its more advanced chip architectures out the door, but that might be changing soon. CEO Pat Gelsinger announced today on Intel’s Q2 earnings call that “7nm is progressing well,” and the company is gearing up to announce news on how its “accelerating its annual cadence of innovation with new advancements in semiconductor process and packaging,” at a webcast on Monday, July 26th.

DirectStorage Developer Preview Out Now on PC, Supports Windows 10 Too
Microsoft had promised that the DirectStorage API, first debuted with the Xbox Series S|X consoles, would launch in a developer preview for PC this Summer. That promise was maintained last Friday when the first preview kit was delivered to those game developers who had subscribed to the NDA developer preview program.
Interestingly, though, Microsoft walked back on its former decision to make DirectStorage only available on Windows 11. Program Manager Hassan Uraizee explained:
Microsoft is committed to ensuring that when game developers adopt a new API, they can reach as many gamers as possible. As such, games built against the DirectStorage SDK will be compatible with Windows 10, version 1909 and up; the same as the DirectX 12 Agility SDK.
[...] This means that any game built on DirectStorage will benefit from the new programming model and GPU decompression technology on Windows 10, version 1909 and up. Additionally, because Windows 11 was built with DirectStorage in mind, games running on Windows 11 benefit further from new storage stack optimizations. The API runtime implementation and the GPU decompression technology is delivered via the DirectStorage SDK, and ships with your game. As a game developer, you need only implement DirectStorage once into your engine, and all the applicable benefits will be automatically applied and scaled appropriately for gamers.
Microsoft has had to pull back on this and a couple other things related to Windows 11.
You need a TPM, but at least Windows 11 doesn't require Pluton!

Monkeypox is Back and It’s Shown up in Dallas, Texas. How Contagious is the Disease?
According to the CDC, Monkeypox is a rare but potentially serious viral illness that typically begins with flu-like illness and swelling of the lymph nodes and progresses to a widespread rash on the face and body. Most infections last 2–4 weeks.
...
Monkeypox can spread from person to person through respiratory droplets or other bodily fluids, so the passengers sharing the flight with the infected person may very well have avoided it as they were wearing masks. It is however too early to tell if other individuals may have contracted the disease, as officials are still engaged in contacting passengers on the two flights.
Masks don't work, do they?
Samsung Exynos 2200 now rumored to feature 384 AMD RDNA2 Stream Processors
The rumor is that the upcoming Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC for smartphones will have 6 RDNA 2 CUs (384 stream processors).
The just-announced Steam Deck has 8 RDNA 2 CUs (512 stream processors).
Performance should be great, although if it has thermal issues it could benefit from high-end cooling built in the phone, or a user-attached Peltier cooler. Apple could surpass it with whatever they release next.
RDNA 2 graphics will scale across a huge performance range:
6900 XT = 80 CUs
6800 XT = 72 CUs
6800 = 60 CUs
6700 XT = 40 CUs
6600 XT = 32 CUs?
6600 = 28 CUs?
Navi 24 = 16 CUs?
Rembrandt = 12 CUs
Van Gogh (Steam Deck) = 8 CUs
Exynos 2200 = 6 CUs
Monet = 2-4 CUs?
