This last minute announcements of these meetings all the time bothers me. Always nothing but a couple of hours notice for a meeting when you would think if they actually want the community to participate as they say, it would be at least a day or heaven forbid two of notice given. Allowing people the chance to actually see the notice and make plans to join the meeting before it is over and done.

As secretary of the governance committee, and as such the one responsible for notifying of the meetings, please allow me to answer. Initially, we talked about announcing the meetings four days in advance. When we began meeting weekly, four days seemed a little far out and I started publishing the meta the day before as a reminder, and then the day of. I apologize to you and to the community and acknowledge that, in hindsight, same-day notification is of perhaps limited utility. I will endeavor to give at least a day's notice henceforth, or whatever the committee decides, as the case may be.

The meta posts are visible reminders of the meeting, but are not the only meeting announcements. Each meeting's minutes [soylentnews.org] (which appear under journals) contains announcement of the next meeting, and the date and time of the next meeting typically appear in the topic of the #governance channel on SoylentNews IRC.

In any event, the meetings are currently held each Wednesday at 21:00 UTC (which works out to 4pm Eastern Standard Time)--and you and the rest of the community are certainly invited.

      Peace.

ok thank you for the explanation, I did not realize they we scheduled weekly. I just kept seeing the short notice for them and thought it was strange way to encourage attendance.

Maybe we'll do some mensa business on good old IRC.
